Brave and the Bold Collecting Thread

It's good to see that your situation resolved itself satisfactorily. Any company that provides a service is bound to have occurrences that don't go perfectly smoothly. The good companies are those that admit their errors and make them right. Sounds like this is what CGC has done with you and, I have to say, what they have done with me in the past.

Top 10 board arguments that will never die....
JLA Brad replied to miraclemet's topic in Comics General
I don't know, that B&B 54 vs B&B 60 argument was going again a few months back, so I think it still applies. I mean, after all, B&B 54 is the true first appearance of the Teen Titans , right? -
Sunday seemed busy enough. It was nice to be able to see Neal Adams there and get a couple autographed books for my collection. It's too bad they had so many guest cancellations (Katie Cassidy, Katee Sackoff, Karl Urban and Jason Momoa) - was going to go on Saturday to see Jason, but didn't bother when he cancelled. Hopefully they have better luck with their guests next year. I didn't mind the set up this year because there were booths with comics in either room, instead of 99% of them being in the one room. I really didn't find a lot that I was looking for, but I never expect to at conventions.

Well, on Comiclink alone I bid on 2 9.4's, 1 9.6 and 1 9.8 in 2015, 2017, 2017 and 2018 respectively. The opportunities are out there - I haven't bothered to look at HA for recent copies there, but they do come around. Seems like this is an underrated book and should have upside considering it is both Neal Adams AND the first new Green Arrow look.

I've NEVER had to fill out either a E-15 or B-13 form and I've submitted 4 times over the past 5 years. I've just filled out the paperwork from CGC and completed the on-line shipping information on the Canada Post website. Never any issues with sending books for appraisal. That being said, putting the reason as "books sent for appraisal, to be returned" is probably what you want to put for the reason for export. That being said, the last time I submitted I forgot and put sale of goods and there was still no problem - I'm guessing because the country of origin for the goods was the US.

Not a big story actually (unfortunately). Originally, these were listed on this site for sale a year ago by Mr Bedrock. As I recall, there were actually 12 that I was interested in, but I didn't want them bad enough at the time (translation: I wanted other comics more). He did end up listing them on his website and just recently I decided that I should make the move on those that remained, namely these 7. All of these are the highest graded on the census. To my knowledge, they were all consigned through Bedrock City from one individual, so he had quite the collection of B&B's at one point, obviously the finest early B&B collection out there.

Just received these today: 1 upgrade and 6 new additions to the club (for me) - bringing my total to 14 of the first 24 issues:

Very strong trio of books Bob! I am expecting to add to more issues to the club soon...but not a #9 or a #18 (both of which are fantastic!) I do have a nice #23 coming though...
-
That is a gorgeous copy! Looks nicer than the assigned grade.Very impressive.

I like it. This way you've saved money that you can spend on an alarm system with laser beams and a reinforced steel door with retina scan.

Absolutely gorgeous run of an underrated title. Gotta love Showcase just for the breadth of characters it...showcased...over it's run.

Why are there so few World's Finest collectors?
JLA Brad replied to Hepcat's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
WF would be a title I would collect. Nice long run of books - secondary Batman title, secondary Superman title, so less sought after and cheaper to compile. The only reason I don't collect the title is that I'm doing so with another title that has many of the same attributes. Maybe someday though... -
If we go on the assumption that HA's SP can be negotiated to be roughly equal to CC or CL, the question is whether HA can provide more visibility and has a better reach in order to bring in higher bids to offset the 20% BP that they charge and the others don't. Even if you negotiate no HA SP (and doing this is not a given), there is still 20% HA BP vs. 10% SP CC & CL. As a buyer, as many others have stated, the 20% is irrelevant as long as you don't make the mistake of ignoring the BP when bidding (which I'm sure has happened more than once). It's really as a seller that you take the bigger risk of netting much less than through CC or CL. Does HA really have that bigger a reach than CL or CC? On average, are their prices hammering higher than CC & CL to more than offset the higher fees?

I've recently added my 7th issue in this club, didn't think I would ever get a #1 in this condition:

Shouldn't the mathematically challenged like this change? Much easier to calculate 20%!!!

JLA #1 cgc 9.6 in May 18 heritage auction!!!
JLA Brad replied to drdonaldblake1's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
And no...I didn't win the book...nor did I even place a bid on it...so the price had nothing to do with me. -
JLA #1 cgc 9.6 in May 18 heritage auction!!!
JLA Brad replied to drdonaldblake1's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Regardless of the issue of the 9.6 grading, $215K for this book is huge! I'm really taken aback at that price, quite honestly. I would have to attribute that to it being tied for highest graded as opposed to any surge in popularity on the JLA series as a whole...as I've seen tens of instances where prices have gone down on non-highest graded (but still HQ) non-key JLA's over the past few years. I don't recall if I've seen even a JLA#1 come to auction in the past 7-8 years, so scarcity is a big factor as well. -

That IS a strong price considering that is NOT a 9.6! -
Brave & Bold #28: Speculation on future pricing
JLA Brad replied to accessndx's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I'm in complete agreement with you. Better to buy than to sell right now.
