  1. I will say that I am probably pulled towards more of the Crime Suspenstories covers overall as a title more than any other title. although a few really creep me out. But, Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and the Weird Science/Fantasy covers are awesome as well.
  2. I'm drawn to the Crime, Shock, and Horror titles, although any book with a cool cover will get my attention.
  3. Sorry about all the questions, but would be interested to know ............. What is your favorite title? What is your favorite cover? In your opinion, which title has more cool/classic covers throughout the run?
  4. That brings up another question for me. What kind of price increases have EC books seen over the past few years/months? Have they been steadily rising or have they exploded recently like some of the SA books?
  5. Thanks, sounds like some great advice. I currently have several covers that I like a lot, but they are all spread over different titles. I'm torn as to whether I want to start a run of one title now, or just go after my favorite covers, and start a run later.
  6. Any room in here for a new EC Addict?? I have yet to own an EC book, but the history, the covers, the story-lines have me hooked !! Should I try to do a run of a certain title or just collect the covers I like?? Any suggestions from the EC veterans??
  7. Not terribly surprised. 2nd highest graded with the possibility of a press up to the highest grade of 9.6. FMV of $310,000 plus that QES sticker has to be worth a $20K bump or so. LOL.
  8. Thanks for the heads up I believe these are the only two issues.
  9. Awaiting for the coveted KY pedigree from CGC before any holes in the collection are plugged.
  10. This would be a good collecting niche for someone. Romance comic covers with women holding Richard.
  11. I posted this in the "Have a Cigar" thread as well, but wanted to post it here to show the kind of books I like and will be going after. Unique, brilliant colors that stand out and catch the eye. This is my second GA book purchased. Won it the other night in the C-link auction. Good Start ?
  12. Actually, I probably like the GA books better than the SA. I am more familiar with the characters and stories of the SA, because that is what I grew up reading. I probably won't limit myself to one genre or another at the moment, because I like both, but will most likely wait on some of the keys. I just bought a Hulk 113 the other night in the C-link auction, so its not like I have to purchase one or the other, I'm just going to buy what I like from both, unless of course what I like has increased 800% in six months.
  13. I agree with everything you stated. I am closer to your option #2 at the moment, and like you mentioned having $10-15K currently really doesn't get you much in the way of SA keys these days. Thats the one reason I redirected my attention towards GA books. The niche thing may be an issue with me because there are just so many awesome covers from that era, so maybe that could be my niche, GA books with awesome covers. LOL. When, and if SA keys decide to level off or at least cool-off some I can nibble on a few then.
  14. I wasn't necessarily looking for investment advice. But, I was looking to start re-collecting again. The original plan was to buy a few SA keys, but the recent crazy run-ups have priced me out of that plan for now. I have always had a special interest in GA books, there's just something about those beautiful covers that can't be replicated even with all of todays technology. If the GA books I end up purchasing increase in value thats all well and good, but I'm not buying them to re-sell or flip, just trying to find a starting point, thats closer to the floor than the ceiling.
  15. Here is one with color touch & pieces added that is in a conserved holder. So, I don't know. Here
  16. If Chuck was looking for Church copies at an antique market in the middle of West Tennessee, then I applaud his persistence and perseverance.
  17. I appreciate you being such a young collector with such a good eye. I too have always loved the Captain America runs of the 40s. Have you tried also looking at other Timely titles including All-Select, USA, and All-Winners where Captain America is usually featured? It seems like with the $650 and $290 you were going to spend on the two books with issues you could spend $950 or a tad more and get a decent low-grade copy with marginal issues.
  18. I actually had a 33 Gehrig at one time, and like a lot of others sold it off. It's almost like the 80's happening all over again in card collecting. Back then people were chasing Rated Rookies of hot players, Foil inserts, etc. Who would have thought the most sought after cards from the decade would come from 30 cent basketball packs produced by Fleer as an afterthought.
  19. If it's any indication of how GA comics are perceived. I heard a grumpy guy looking through comics at the antique market today. As I walked by I heard him say "None of these Sum itches is old or worth a ". So there you have it. Random grumpy guy at the antique market says old comics good, new comics bad. LOL.
  20. I don't think it's entirely true that nobody wants them, I think its the fact that nobody can afford them anymore. Oh of course the big money collectors can, but believe me there are still a lot of people out there who want them, just at the right price. I always told myself in my early card collecting days that I would get myself a 33 Goudey Ruth card someday. Well, I had several chances in the early to mid-2000s to get a low mid-grade one for around $2-3K but never pulled the trigger thinking the price was just a bit to high for me. Since then the price has went up 3 to 5 times what I could have bought it for. Could I get one....sure, but probably not going to spend the $15-20K now to do so.
  21. IDK. I think a lot of the new money from young investors is due to them not being exposed to market corrections in their lifetimes. Most them were too young to remember the recession from 2007-2009 or the dot com bubble in the 90's. I think when you see Tesla, Game stop, etc. going up without any repercussions, then you think you are bullet proof. Personally, I have always been more of a conservative value investor with any type of asset I choose to invest.
  22. Is it just me, or is Bucky just not as "Bad A**" when he isn't the true Winter Soldier under the influence of the words that put him into "soldier mode"? This is the Winter Soldier I want to see, and I hope this version returns, albeit for the good of humanity this time.
