  1. The disconnect you mention proves your first point. When people are so focused on one area of the market it makes the other areas look cheap. Eventually the pendulum will swing, and GA prices will rise. The three types of people I see in this current market are collectors, investors, and speculators. When prices start to fall so will speculations and investing to some degree, leaving the collectors.
  2. As a former card collector I think GA books are relative to T206/Goudey Pre-war cards and SA books are relative to cards from the 50/60s. While the older cards appreciated in value the cards from the 50s and 60s like Mantle, Mays, Aaron etc saw meteoric rises in value during my collecting days. Probably because these were the cards/players that most collectors with money at that time knew growing up and wanted, and these players were retiring and going into the HOF and passing away. Now this didn't equate to the Pre-war cards losing value, instead these cards saw there values rise as well. While the people who remember Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth's playing days are probably almost non-existent these days the cards still demand a premium value, and have seen some nice rises in value as well. An old sports card collector once told me the old pre-war cards are like bonds and the newer (then 50/60s cards) are more like stocks. I remember that to this day and think it holds true with GA and SA comics as well.
  3. The book in question is a Slight A-1 with small amount of color touch on cover, pieces added to cover, cover reinforced and cleaned.
  4. Not quite in hand yet, but won this tonight. Love the Trimpe Hulk covers !
  5. Oh, so they weren't trimmed to be bound, but trimmed before being bound?
  6. Sorry to bump an old thread. But this post got me to thinking, if the above qualifies for a conserved grade then if a book was in a restored holder with the above qualifications on the label would CGC slab it in a Conserved holder??
  7. Lots of good suggestions in thread so far, but this piqued my interest and got me to thinking. What happens when prices start to come down, and that $78,000 X-men #1 is $75,000 or $70,000 or lower? Will businesses rush to the exits trying to get the best price before the price drops further? Could be a good economics lesson coming up for some.
  8. Hmmm...... Didn't think about the trimming aspect of fitting the larger sized comic into a smaller bound periodical. Is this true for all bound comics or just certain ones? I see several that look as if they are from the 50's or 60's bound...... wondered if these would have received the same trim job as later bound comics?
  9. What are the usual condition of bound comics? Are the spines of the comics usually spilt to insert into the hard copy book? Are the comics glued into the book?
  10. After coming back into comic collecting last year I have been saving to purchase SA Marvel keys (#1 issues). But, I never thought prices would currently explode the way they have, and the books I wanted are increasing faster than I can save. Browsing current and upcoming auctions I find myself drooling over GA books and have thoughts of waiting on the SA keys and just buying GA books that I like. Thoughts on giving up on my original plan and pivoting into the Golden Age of comic books at this time??
  11. As an update to this.....I have finally received confirmation that someone placed a BIN/offer for the ask price and the item has been sent to Heritage, but I must say this has been the worst experience trying to sell something I have ever experienced. Heritage should be better than this.
  12. I just returned to comic collecting this year. I think affordable applies to what you are seeking to buy at the moment. Currently I'm looking for Marvel SA #1 keys, but the price is going up faster than I can save for them.
  13. The answer is....."It Depends". If you expect them to come back in high grade, or they are valuable or rare (even in low grade) then I would say yes. If you have a handful of 80's and 90's common cards then No, don't waste your time and money on them. The only exception I could see to this is if the cards hold some kind of sentimental value to you and you want to preserve them. Out of curiosity, what cards did you have in mind? As a former card collector I submitted hundreds to PSA.
  14. Just looked again. While someone offered the asking price of $9,500 appears the seller upped the price to $9,999. Good grief, Seller's prerogative i guess.
  15. Update: I didn't buy the book. But after going back to look again it appears someone has offered $9,500 which was the original selling price. Personally, I just couldn't pull the trigger, as nice as it was for the grade, it was just too far above average selling price.
  16. Is there any scenario where the item wouldn't sell for the price I had listed? I mean either the buyer accepts my first counteroffer, or it expires, or the guy with the BIN gets it with the higher bid right?
  17. For the issues EBay has it seems Heritage could learn a thing or two about what Buy it Now means.
  18. So, why an I getting an email saying I need to confirm availability? And then when you hit the link they sent to confirm availability there is nothing on the page to confirm, just more rhetoric about do you still want to entertain offers?
  19. So they told you the seller raised his BIN price? Did he? Or were they just trying to get more $$ from you? If they told you that, and it was false its shady as hell.
  20. I did, you know, send them something called an email today. Its slightly more efficient than the telephone.
  21. Yesterday someone made an offer to me on an item I had won several years ago through a Heritage Auction. I counter offered with a slightly higher price. Haven't heard anything back from the counter offer. So, today I get an e mail from Heritage saying that someone has used the Buy it Now option to purchase the item at my full list price. Problem is, I don't see an option to accept the BIN offer. The e-mail says I need to confirm the availability of the item within 3-days, but doesn't really say how to do that. The link just takes me back to the item and shows this...... Current Offers: Offer on Feb 28, 2021: $xxxx ($xxxx for you after Heritage's 10% commission) Backup Offer: This is a backup offer, and you will not be able to respond to this offer unless the current offer you've accepted is not completed by the buyer. This offer will be auto-rejected in 2d 21h 06m. If you don't respond to any offers, then 10 instances of auto-rejection will result in Make Offer to Owner being disabled for your account. Previous Offers: Offer on Feb 27, 2021: $xxxx ($xxxx for you after Heritage's 10% commission). You countered with $xxxx Will I have to wait on the counter offer to expire before the BIN goes through? Seems like a BIN would supersede any previous offers.
