  1. I just saw it on Friday for the first time and I thought it was amazing. This was easily a favorite of mine and the best Marvel feature since the first Iron Man IMHO. Iron Man 3 was a bit over the top in slapstick for me and I think Cap 2 took itself a little bit more seriously, which I thought was great.
  2. As far as 'holes' in the numbers, I would say with VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray sales this would be another analysis point that captures post-cinema revenue results. But the details are not always clear, depending on how much per-title tracking was in place at a given point in time. So my current analysis focused on what could be a common comparison - cinema results. With taking the approach of subtracting special profit-sharing arrangements, it would be interesting but also tricky. We would have to know all arrangements that involved DC and Marvel movies to make it fair. And what about advertising revenue like 'Man of Steel' and its $170 MM success? Again, it would be interesting. But not all movies reveal this information clearly. But it must have had an impact, as now 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is going like gangbusters with its Carl's Jr/Hardees TV and print ads. and MoS got 190 million from product placement I'm not surprised by that at all and feel much better about the movie now if in fact they actually did get that much. Although I would have preferred not to have those obnoxious signs for IHOP and Sears keep appearing, 190 million (which is almost as much the estimated budget of $250 million, which doesn't include advertisement, I believe) would be pretty hard to turn down. Especially considering that Supes wasn't a sure thing and coming of a rather underwhelming appearance in Superman Returns both critically and financially.
  3. I updated that post with the two missing movies from Fox, including the combined budget and worldwide results. If you can update your post with that information so people do not get confused, it is greatly appreciated. Done (thumbs u
  4. It was Superman and Batman from DC that really started the comic book movie genre. Then came Fox's X-men that rejuvenated the genre. After that, it was The Dark Knight that really showed the potential of comic book characters in terms of realism and box office due to it being the first "comic book" movie to eclipse the billion dollar mark and although it was mostly snubbed at the Oscars, I believe it's still the only movie form the genre to have won an award with Heath Ledger winning BSA posthumously. Most recently, it was the Avengers that changed the game with bringing together several characters and is now dictating where the genre is headed with characters and story arcs spanning different movies eventually tying into one movie. With all that being said, my question to everyone is what do you believe is the most historically significant comic book movie of all-time? Not necessarily the best or your favorite but the most historically significant. P.S. The first Spider-Man shouldn't be overlooked because it was an excellent movie and the box office take was highest to date but I don't know where it would fit in within these movies.
  5. If the movie is gonna suck, which chances are it will, I highly doubt even a tiny reason why will be because Wonder Woman doesn't look as buff as people want her to look. You may be right, and I'm not saying you are, but it sure would help if she looked right for the part. i think the major thing about this movie that is driving people crazy is how little news their is about it including the plot/ story. has for WW she looks better from how she look last year plus she most likely gain muscle and not fat which is ok. I'm not sure how anyone right now can clearly state this movie is going to bite it yet. All that would come from is company wars or assumptions. Ben Affleck may really surprise people. I know I would like to be positively surprised by his delivery. I've watched 'Man of Steel' twice now in two weeks to determine if maybe I was being too much of a fanboy when I watched it previously. It was great for me both times. So if Bv.S delivers at the same level or better with two key DC heroes, I can't see it bombing. But then again, Gal Gadot's short scenes may send people running. Time will tell! In the entire run time of MOS there was an absolutely wonderful movie there but it was bogged down by a lot of unnecessary scenes. To name an example, the fight between Supes and the tentacle-like machine (the name escapes me at the moment) was much longer than it needed to be and felt similar to something from Transformers. The movie was about 65 percent style and 35 percent substance and it would have benefited greatly if those numbers were a little bit more even but then I don't know if it would have generated the same amount of revenue. I think the producers made a conscious decision to go with over the top action and destruction route to fill the seats IMHO. I think they had to throw something in there at the end to slow Superman down & it's unfortunate they couldn't think of anything better. I'm open-minded to a Wonder Woman with a different build than Linda Carter had in the 70s. The workouts are just to give Gadot a little bit of muscle tone; it was never going to make her look like a bodybuilder or East German powerlifter. We may not even see her in action in this movie. Maybe she'll only appear as Diana Prince. I think you're absolutely right about that. The woman is all kinds of gorgeous and would look really odd beefed up. I still think the version of WW from the recent JL animated feature is what we can expect. Link to pic It's animated and requires a little bit of imagination but I think the artist drew her with Gadot in mind or I'm just imagining the resemblance. Either way, I think she'll look the part when it comes down to it. DC/Snyder filled out the casting pretty well on MOS and say what you will about Snyder's work but the guy can find the right actors to portray comic book characters. Prime example and one of my all time favorite portrayals was Jackie Earle Hayley as Rorschach.

  7. MAN OF STEEL Screenwriter David S. Goyer Says “It’s Too Early” to Think about Creating Cohesive DC Cinematic Universe In an interview with IGN, Goyer was asked how the TV shows might tie into the movies, and Goyer broadened the topic into the studio’s concern over how to weave together their superhero properties: I mean, it’s too early. I know that Warner Bros. would love to make their universe more cohesive. There have been a lot of general conversations about that, but it’s really, really early. I’m not sure. Marvel has had enormous success, but I’m not sure that everybody should try to emulate them either. It’s just been vague conversations so far. Thoughts?
  8. I hope you're right I would love to get to a glimpse of BA in costume on screen.
  9. They took out the Flash episodes. The episodes were going to serve as a backdoor pilot but the popularity of the brief character arc earlier from the show encouraged the network to go ahead and green-light the series and now we will have to wait until the Fall to watch them...sucks but at least The Flash get's his own show. Read about it here: http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/cws-the-flash-to-do-standalone-pilot-instead-of-arrow-backdoor-pilot-episode/
  10. Marvel Studios hasn't missed on a leading man and I doubt this will be any different.
  11. Completely agree on the bleh aspect. Arrow has been incredible from the get-go but the recent episodes minus the Suicide Squad episode have been incredibly boring. I know they have to add this soap opera BS to keep some of the audience entertained but it's just predictable and boring. Roy and Thea have to be the weakest part of the show with Moira Queen coming in at a close second. Deathstoke, who I remember being a complete badass, is on a vengeful quest fueled by mirakuru and heartbreak over a women who never looked at him twice. I'm not going to start on the plot holes (the random home movie of Shado that Slade some how obtained, how?) or the fact that Detective Lance has to be the worst detective in the history of television because he can't tell it's Oliver in a green hood. A lot of these things you can overlook because it's a 24 episode season and they have to fill out the entire season with only so much story but season 1 did a much better job of this. Even the flashbacks seem completely forced now. I really enjoyed this show and it's one of three or four shows that I watch and I'm just very disappointed at this point.
  12. Maybe a tiny bit of hoarding there. Hoard 'em if you got 'em?
  13. Same here, I read YTLM almost non-stop. I just couldn't put it down. There were some "filler" issues in Preacher but that didn't happen during YTLM. P.S. This is probably not the right thread to mention this but The Saint of Killers is by far the most badass character ever written. I'm going to try and get a copy of Preacher #1 eventually just to have his first appearance,
  14. This series was recommended to me among several others by boardies and I'm glad I read this one first. I just finished reading Preacher as well and although that was great in it's own right, YTLM is my favorite so far. Next up: The Sandman (thumbs u
  15. I wasn't a dedicated viewer at beginning of the 1st season, maybe it's time to re-watch those And she handled herself pretty well in one of the earlier episodes of this season when a party was crashed by those wannabe vigilantes.
  16. Has it been discussed why the cover didn't feature Superman or Batman?
  17. What is MKT Value for a 5.0 right now? Is it on par with this ongoing auction? Are the WP a major factor? The white pages are on the 9.6 that's not for sale. The 5.0 has Cream to Off-White pages. Only 2 sales on GPA for the last few years, both for $6750. , that image of the 9.6 is burned in to my brain.... Thanks for the info, bob!
