  1. Some more Kane X-Men. I think #79 is a pretty great cover. #76 has the classic Gil Kane looking-up-the-guy's-nose angle - probably not his finest work.
  2. GCD says: Pencils: Gil Kane Inks: John Romita Jean Grey's hands definitely looks very Kane-esque to me. And the figures breaking out of the picture frame is very Kane-like too.
  3. Another stellar Gil Kane cover. Nice 3D effect, no glasses needed. Lots of beauties here, Bob. How many moves have these books survived?
  4. There was a pretty well accepted list in this thread that was compiled by some of the earliest PF fans like George (JiveTurkey). So when I made the registry request way back when, I just sent along that list. I really don't mind that ASM #113 didn't make the list. I can understand why it didn't. And if it did, ASM #115 should be considered too. If they were slam dunk candidates, it might be worth the request. But since they're borderline examples, I don't think it's can of worms worth opening. I remember when 30¢ and 35¢ price variants were added to some long-existing sets and suddenly my complete sets weren't complete anymore. Not the end of the world, but I couldn't say I was happy about it.
  5. A few more 9.8s. I know the ASM #113 isn't an "official" Picture Frame, but I think it should be.
  6. I don't know if the census confirms it, but it always seemed to me that finding sweet books from 1971 to 1973 is harder than some books from 1967 to 1970. I think that was even the case in the pre-CGC days too.
  7. Show us the slabbed copy, please! You have a 9.8, right? Yep. Still have the 9.8. My scanner can't handle slabs, though.. I can post the same crappy pic? There's no such thing as crappy pic of a 9.8 Picture Frame. Especially when it's one of the tougher titles. I have no 9.8 picture frames The 9.8 square bound Ringo Kid that Barton owns used to be mine. And it's a beauty.

  9. Wow, Thomas. That's a great haul. You singlehandedly broke the census for MSH #33. And for a hero book, Iron Man #44 is incredibly tough in 9.4 better.

  11. Great stuff, Mitch. It really shows why and how Kane gave us so many killer PF covers.
  12. I'd guess because it's a number 1. Chamber of Chills #1, Combat Kelly #1, Hero for Hire #1, Marvel Premiere #1, Marvel Triple Action #1 are all pretty well represented in the census. Even Night Nurse has 15 copies in 9.6 or better. By that time in 1972, there were a fair number of people buying multiple copies of first issues, especially any Superhero or Kirby book. I've heard that Conan #1 was one of the first books to get the attention of speculators and purchased in large multiples. I'd guess that Iron Man #1 and Sub-Mariner #1 might fall into that category as well, even if they're not actually debut issues.

  14. Great Kane Frame, Bob. IMO, that cover doesn't get the recognition it's due. Perhaps because it was a fill-in job for a disgruntled artist who left one of the greatest storylines before its climax. Or maybe because the issue is sandwiched between two enigmatic, fan-favorite artists and their short lived Avengers work. Whatever the case, it's a creative masterpiece of 3-D action flying from a framed cover composition that brilliantly captures the illusion of dramatic, heroic movement. Powerful and captivating. The perfect newsstand eye-candy. And to think Kane threw that cover together at the last-minute request of Roy Thomas so as to avoid missing a production deadline. Simply amazing! It's a great cover but was has always bothered me is the red strip in the top of the cover. Looks odd, and there aren't too many others like that. If it was an all black PF, it might be a top fiver. Anyone with any photoshop skills willing to make the cover all black and show us what might have been? Jim Here you go. I tried to do it myself and gave up after about 20 minutes. Then I asked my nephew for help and 3 minutes later he sent me this...
  15. Nice to see this thread have a renaissance about 7 years after it started. Lots of great books showing up lately. And Bob, I don't know if the word "reader" means what you think it means.
  16. Have these at CGC right now. 001 Li'l Kids 10 2/73 Marvel Comics n/a n/a n/a 002 Li'l Kids 2 10/70 Marvel Comics n/a n/a n/a 003 Li'l Kids 7 8/72 Marvel Comics n/a n/a n/a 004 Harvey 4 8/72 Marvel Comics n/a n/a n/a That's a herd of unicorns.
  17. I'm not scanning my chit again. That's ok. I think I saved most of the Millie scans you've posted here in the hope that you'll someday decide to part the books. I'm crossing my fingers but not holding my breath.
  18. Paul, any Millie the Models, My Love, or Our Love Story PFs? They're close to impossible to find in nice shape. Li'l Kids, Li'l Pals, Harvey are all insanely tough too. (Anyone else please play along!)
  19. Looks really sharp. There still hasn't been a 9.4 or better of this book graded by CGC. That looks like a Dale Roberts price tag to me. Dale has great source of these Westerns for me over the years. I think 8 people collected them and Dale must know them all.
