  1. Jeff is as good as it gets. He's a great buyer and very solid citizen. Thanks again!
  2. That's a crazy invoice, John. The good kind of crazy.
  3. Modern Slow Track Pre-Screen, 56 books Received: 8/24/15 Verified: 11/6/15 Scheduled for Grading: 11/11/15 Graded: ? Grading/Quality Control: ? Shipped/Safe: ?
  4. This has been said multiple times ever since I joined the boards... back in 2002. It's not working out that way. In those 13+ years we've had what 2-3 pedigrees (Don Rosa, Rocky Mountain, Suscha, any others?) surface that included uber high grade early bronze. Yes you would think there are more. I'm sure there are more. But either there are far less than people here think or they just aren't being found. I've been part of some some lively discussions here about this same topic. And count me in as somebody who thinks these killer Bronze collections are extremely rare and there are probably not that many more to come. I'm sure there are plenty of 9.2/9.4ish original owner collections still out there. But the 9.6/9.8 varieties like the Oaklands and Suschas require a very rare breed of collector. And so far, there's not much evidence to make us believe a lot more of these folks ever existed. (I'm talking early Bronze, like pre-1974, by the way. After that, these books seem to get a lot more plentiful.)
  5. I think the trailer looks pretty great. And it looks like Detective Lester Freamon from The Wire makes an appearance too!
  6. It’s back because nobody demanded it – The Picture Frame Scarcity Index! Just a few books fell off the list since the last time. We really need another Suscha News, Don Rosa, or Oakland-esque collection to surface. Preferably one owned by a fastidious nut job who bought Millie the Model and Li'l Kids. (I write that affectionately.) Besides lists of books with either zero or one 9.4 or better copy, I added a list of extra tough hero books like Hulk #158 and Iron Man #44. There probably is something to the thought that black covers are harder to find in uber high grade. 7 of the 9 tough hero books have black covers. And the other two have dark colors too - Iron Man #44 is dark brown, Captain Marvel #22 is deep blue. No copies in CGC 9.4 or better: Harvey #3, 5 Li'l Kids #4, 7, 9 Millie The Model #194, 195, 196, 197, 198, 199 My Love #20 Our Love Story #20 Ringo Kid #17 Special Marvel Edition #4 One copy in CGC 9.4 or better: Chili #18 19, 20 Harvey #6 Li’l Kids #5, 6 Li'l Pals #1, 2 Marvel's Greatest Comics #34, 39 Marvel Triple Action #6 Mighty Marvel Western #17 My Love #14, 16, 18, 19 Our Love Story #17, 18, 19 Rawhide Kid #103 Ringo Kid #13, 14, 15 Special Marvel Edition #6 Two-Gun Kid #101, 102, 103 Western Gunfighters #8, 10 Western Kid #3, 5 Wyatt Earp #31 Tough hero books in CGC 9.6 or better: Avengers #103 (6 in 9.6) Avengers #105 (8 in 9.6) Captain Marvel #22 (4 in 9.6) Daredevil #86 (1 9.8, 4 in 9.6) Incredible Hulk #158 (6 in 9.6) Iron Man #44 (6 in 9.6) Sub-Mariner #43 (6 in 9.6) X-Men #76 (4 in 9.6) X-Men #79 (1 in 9.8, 1 in 9.6)
  7. The keys or semi-keys from that run would be: #105 - Origin Moondragon #111 - First Silver Samurai #131 - First Bullseye #158 - First Frank Miller DD #168 - First Elektra, which you just missed by two issues, unfortunately. And there's a Thanos cameo in #107, 2nd Bullseye in #132 but these are probably stretching it a bit.

  9. These are some of my favorites because I bought them raw in the pre-CGC days.
  10. Just finished up a nice, easy transaction with Claudio. Thank you, sir!
  11. I was curious if Suscha News was still around. And according to Google Maps and Street View, it is. And it looks like they still have the same Pepsi machine they did when Peter's Monsters on the Prowl #17 was on the stands.
  12. David used to be a prince of a buyer. But the paperwork has come through and he's been officially elevated to the previously unknown position of GrandMaster Procurer of Pulp-Based Periodicals with Sequential Juxtaposed Panels Containing Tales of Heroic Individuals Dressed in Tight Fitting Colorful Garments © 2015.
  13. Just finished another quick, easy transaction with Scott. All good stuff here. Thanks again!
  14. For me, it's hard to beat Palmer's inks on Kane's pencils. Romita did great inks too but he had a very heavy hand and sometimes the covers looked more like Romita's work than Kane's.
  15. I did some detective work for you, all on my MacBook Pro. I sold it in 2011 to the esteemed namisgr. Bob probably still has the book.
  16. I took the longest subway ride of my life to get that book and a bunch of other Oaklands too. Vincent, Mike Carbonaro, and Bob Storms were processing the collection in the Far Rockaways and I played hooky from work to head out there. I had no idea it was possible to spend an hour and a half on a one-way subway ride. But it turned out to be the best A train ride ever. Do you remember when that was Barton? Just curious is all... July 12th, 1998. Really. I didn't remember exactly. But the excel file with the list of books I bought that day has the date on it. Also bought the DD #50, 56, and 75 that day. And later picked up the #54 in a trade. I guess at some point I also had the Oakland DD #86. But probably traded that away in some crazy deal.
  17. Someone is either hell bent putting together a run or not going to pay. I don't follow this site at all, does this happen often? I mean what's to stop a guy with a 9.4 on ebay for a fraction of this price to run up the 9.6 to create false activity, then not pay? These same books sold for pretty serious prices back in 2011.The #76 for $1588 and the #79 for $3433. So I don't think there's anything shady going on here. They're just really tough books in 9.6

  19. Keep it. Sell one of your kids instead. ('m joking, maybe.)
  20. I paid a nutty price for my #86 in a Comic Connect Auction. Though I can't say I regret it too much. On the other hand, I bought my for my Annual #3 for $20 in 1998. I paid more to slab it.
  21. I tried to put in my own insane bid in the last few seconds, but my own insanity wasn't nearly insane enough. The same thing happened with the very same book in 2011.
  22. A couple more big ComicLink sales from the current auction: X-Men #76 CGC 9.6 X-Men #79 CGC 9.6
