  1. More painting time... I want this room done by Sunday night
  2. I would agree to this as the majority of LCS, at least around the NYC / Long Island area, are not getting in the collections that yield these high level books. As a collector you do not see boxes of CGC slabs in the stores. However there are a lot of LCS shoppers that are obviously familiar with CGC and will collect those on the side. He has heard of Joe through other customers it seems. Which reminds me, at some point I have to pick up my copy of ASM.
  3. I own an uncertified signature in a green label 9.8.
  4. There are three groups... There are those that do not care if a book was pressed. There are those that want to know and care only because they want a book in its purist form. There are those that want to know because if it has not been pressed they will be sure to have it pressed to upgrade it for themselves. I personally have no problem with a book being pressed and do not consider it restoration.
  5. Your argument is invalid. Why? Money. Why would CGC EVER notate that a book was pressed by CCS? That would be incredibly foolish. So they can tell that CCS pressed a book. Guess what I am going to do. NEVER SEND MY BOOKS TO CCS. (It's more fun if you reread the capitalized words in the voice of Norm MacDonald) So I will send my books to Joey or RMA... then I will ask them to send the books back to me and then I will submit it to CGC where they will have to flip the proverbial coin to try and figure out if the book was pressed. The end result... everyone does this instead of sending their books to CCS. CCS fails as an extension of CGC. CGC no likey.
  6. It's why I stopped caring about a feedback thread for these boards... Who cares? If people are only allowed to tell me how great I am then it doesn't matter. The rules to get on the PL and the HOS as well as the feedback forum were pushed for and decided a LONG time ago by some people that are still active here but also by some who have not been seen in quite some time. Perhaps it is time for a change. As members come and go, board culture changes. Perhaps the rules that fit the boards 15 years ago may no longer be as effective as they could be given the culture today.
  7. I mentioned to the store owner of my LCS that I send my books to be pressed when I get things graded and even he has heard of Joe. He called him "Joey the Presser" though.
  8. Yup... I was wrong... the conversation was in the Restoration area and not the PGM area. I thought I posted this before while I was on my phone. If the mods removed it then I apologize and remove this too. However, if not then it was a posting on my phone issue. I was down by the shore.
  9. New York State successfully passed a law requiring all New York residents to pay tax on online purchases. In New York collection of tax was dependant on the buyer and not where the seller resides. This is why all of a sudden I found myself paying tax on CLink purchases for the first time even though they do not have a physical location within the state. https://www.cityandstateny.com/articles/policy/technology/new-york-gets-internet-sales-tax.html Also, I'm not arguing, just trying to figure it out and learn.
  10. I mentioned it earlier and an even worse example where people were considering cutting up a book to remove "trimming" and were discussing it in the Please Grade My Threads...
  11. Yes but Mr Cuomo has made it so that we are all paying tax on online purchases. I paid tax with a seller that was new to ebay last month.

  13. You missed what I wrote. I am talking about people on the PL in general. In many cases there is no way for them ever to come off the list. In a few cases the people that nominated them to the list are no longer here.
  14. You know, they are actually open now. The customer service department is based out of the Philippines. I doubt I will step into a bear trap over this. Just wondering what the ruling is.
  15. They have graded over five million collectibles as of the end of 2018. At this point they cannot put the cork back in the bottle or unring the bell. If they ever said that pressing is restoration and it gets a purple label then they might as well shut down CCS, and get ready for a nightmare because I am willing to say that a vast majority of high level books have been pressed and are sitting in blue labels that obviously do not indicate that the book has been pressed. In the case of the baseball cards they are talking about a few hundred cards. In the case of CGC we are talking a few million.
  16. Ok now I am confused... Me? NY. Lately we have been paying sales tax on everything that is shipped to a NY address. Tonight I bought something on eBay and was NOT charged sales tax. So... what am I missing here? If it means anything I made an offer to the seller who accepted. The auction had a starting bid for $125 and had a 'make an offer'. I offered $135 and he accepted. My total bill came to $142.50 ($7.50 in shipping). I also used my $21 in eBay bucks.
  17. That's what I said. I said it has to do with the culture of the hobby and the grading company.
  18. I may make a joke or two but I try never to be overly disruptive in one of Comicwiz' threads. There is usually a lot of good stuff in what he posts.
  19. Here are some random thoughts at midnight. There are many similarities to cards and comics in so far as restorative techniques. However there are many differences. How each respective grading company handles them are in many cases isolated to the grading company in that collecting field. The perception of what is acceptable or not is also a cultural aspect within the hobby. Look at what we have here. Over in the PGM threads there was a guy that noted his book was trimmed. They asked if it was possible to resubmit and achieve a blue label by conducting a micro tear along the edge in order to mask the trimming. This is where we are at with comics. Remember when people would tape their comics as an untaped tear on a book lowered the grade while adding tape achieved a higher grade? There are people here that decry pressing but the majority of people are okay with it and believe it to be a non-invasive form of preservation. CGC seems to be okay with it. So long as the culture is accepting of it within the hobby I don't think that anyone here is going to cry foul. Now, on the other hand, according to the article soaking a card in mineral oil and allowing it to air dry to remove a stain is acceptable within the card hobby. In comics a "cover cleaning" gets a conserved or restored label. That is the hobby's culture.
  20. Not what I am talking about though... Your money is refunded and I agree with you that this was not a gesture of making amends because your money would have been refunded to you regardless. Let's take the realistic role here in that he decided it was a bad deal and 'lost' the book so he could find it later and make more money off of it. He gets put on the probation list. How does he ever come off? If there is no real way to come off the list then there is no need for a probation list and then people should automatically go to the Hall of Shame after a single transgression. That is obviously not a good idea for a few reasons. So... I would say that the whole thing should be amended. If you are in the probation list then it should be treated as a real probation list. if you screw around 3x then you are in the Hall of Shame. If someone takes says you made things good and they want you off the list then you come off early. However, maybe after a year or two, you are automatically removed from the list if you have not conducted additional unscrupulous acts of malfeasance.
  21. Some, are not worth it. If we all responded to every n00b that came here looking for free tips to flip comics in order to make him money then this place would turn into a nonsensical circus of immaturity. Waitaminute...
  22. True story... I blend in at shows... It has always amazed me when someone is talking about the CGC boards and does not know who I am.
  23. I think you will do well if you go through the Wizard Top Ten Hottest Comics of the Month.
