  1. So would you have rather had Episodes 1-3 again? Why is following the formula a bad thing? It works. Go look at some Joseph Campbell. This has all been done. Why can't some people just be kids and enjoy movies? Yes actually. The Force Awakens made me appreciate the prequel trilogy all just a little bit more. I've heard where Adam Driver said that Episode VIII is their "ESB". That is kinda crappy to be honest. I already saw the Empire Strikes Back. Why would I want to see a reinterpreted version of it? At least the Prequels did things a little bit different. They were not as great as the middle trilogy, but they fit in and attempted new story telling without repeating everything. (Except in E1 where they blow up the droid ship - that was like destroying a death star). Rogue One restored my faith in Star Wars that there are new stories to tell in between Episodes 1-6. Episode VIII will determine whether or not they are capable of pushing the Skywalker storyline further without repeating what has been done in a feeble attempt at a cash grab.

  4. What's their overhead? They put stickers on slabs. Send me your books and O'Neill assess them myself. Their overhead is a roll of stickers. They could do this from their dining room.
  5. I feel a pressing thread on the horizon.
  6. Two year old threads are back - cal is back What's next?
  7. The death of many comic stores came from leaching kids who came to game but did not spend cash. Powerhouse Comics in Levittown / Hicksville comes to mind. It pushed comic customers out and that was that.
  8. I dont know why more people dont do this. I'm going on 6 years this May. Avoid new comics is my advice as well. Metropolis doesn't do new comics. I think they are doing pretty well for themselves.
  9. Long Island advice... Don't do it. I have yet to walk into a store that makes me say I need to go every week. I have yet to walk into a store that is within driving range that makes me say it is worth traveling to. The rent here is expensive. Can't see it working out. I rarely see a comic store out here that can compete with online sales, eBay, mycomicshop. Just saying.
  10. Marvel is not interested in what you have already purchased. To them that is dollars that they have already received. They are also not interested in you buying back issues. To them that is someone else receiving money for books that they have already been paid for once. Marvel is looking to see people spend more money in the future. To them this makes sense.
  11. Watch the force awakens. It says it right in the crawl Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi .... ...not if he trains Rey to become a Jedi ... especially since she is exhibiting a strength in the force. That sounded kinda .. sorry I just saw it says that. But . Kylo could kill em all and ep 9 could be Kylo vs. snoke

  13. The Last Jedi it is... But does the last jedi refer to Luke... or Rey... Bet you Luke gets to become a force ghost like his father before him.
  14. Thanks for all of the comments. Dave is right in that the 1.8 is the "cold dead hands book." I scrimped and saved for that and actually picked that up well before I completed my run. I do not mind saying what I paid for it since it is not, nor will ever be for sale unless I am long gone or about to be... I remember paying $900 for that book which even back then was a lot of money. The 3.5 and the 6.0 were purchased shortly before each of the respective increases. When I was shopping for each of them I went for presentation over grade which is why the 3.5 pops for the grade. I might start rescanning the ASM collection and upload proper scans into my registry. No... no no no 9.4 for me. I would not even feel comfortable having something like that around.
  15. Like I said... that conversation really bothered me after I saw this.
  16. Darin Verdoni of Aliquippa PA I've blocked him twice as a non paying bidder. I know I have mentioned him before in this thread. I just cannot find it right now. His latest screen name is: agent_1986 and PM'd me this morning about buying one of my books off eBay. Gave him my phone number to text me and asked him about other items that he was supposed to pay for that he never did. Each time I block him he comes back with a new screen name. He must do it to others. Just told him that I am not interested in doing any business with him nor anyone else looking for ASM comics in Aliquippa PA. You guys are free to do whatever want.
  17. To clarify, I'd consider it a 1.0. If CGC gave it any more than a 1.5, they were choosing the "crack" option. Crack it is
  18. Book is not a 1.0. It is a bit 'higher' and it was not noted as restored or qualified.
  19. I was looking up AF15's and after viewing a recent "Please Grade My...." thread on the boards I began to look at books a new way and I want to say that is not in a good way. Take a look at this AF15. As we know, many AF15's were trimmed to make the Marvel Chipping go away. Trimming is a form of restoration. The book I am about to show you sits in a blue label CGC book. I am not making any allegations that the seller tampered with the book in any way shape or form. So is this AF15 a product of tearing away the trim job and trying to pass it off as extreme Marvel chipping? However... as I said... this thread really got to me, especially this POST where the owner of that book mentions,
  20. I am in the middle of rescanning certain books. I never had a scanner when I first posted my copies so I figured that it was long past due. I scanned the front and back sides of the slab using an HP8300 that I am still figuring out how to best use. Each pair of scans has a slight background in regards to the acquisition of the book. Yes, I still have all three books. No, none of them are for sale. Amazing Fantasy 15 CGC 1.8 Cream to Off White Pages Date of Purchase: around Spring of 1998. Purchased from: Vincent Zurzolo (there was no Metropolis back then) Pressing Status: Never been Pressed I picked this up on my lunch break while working at the mall. I took a trip out to the Rockville Centre Holiday Inn show with some cash and a credit card and bought this book there. I took it back to the mall where it say on a shelf in the stock room until the day ended. I was but a kid then and Vincent treated me with the same respect as a buyer as he would an adult whale buying Tec 27's. He treated me very well even before he realized I was serious about buying the AF15. If I recall correctly there were other copies in the room that day but none that were within my price range at the time and none belonging to dealers that thought I was serious about buying. Their loss as Vincent walked off with my money and I walked off with this copy. Amazing Fantasy 15 CGC 3.5 Cream to Off White Pages Date of Purchase: October, 2010 Purchased from: Rick and Adam at NYCC 2010 Pressing Status: Unknown With cash in hand I was hell bent on getting a nicer copy of AF15. I wanted to keep both of them and had recently, and finally paid off my car and student loans. I had a few thousand left over to buy another copy. I honestly believe that this was the nicest copy on the floor that day in that grade range. Amazing Fantasy 15 CGC 6.0 Off White to White Pages Date of Purchase: around July of 2012. Purchased from: Heritage Auctions Pressing Status: Unknown Part of the Big Apple Collection I wanted another copy for some reason and I wanted a serious upgrade. When you join the CGC forum they ask you what your most desired collectible would be. I had listed an AF15 in a 5.0-6.0 as a realistic goal. From January through June I kept losing every auction for every copy offered between CLink, Metropolis, Heritage and Sparklecity on eBay. When I received the Heritage Catalog in the mail for the July 2012 auction, I figured I would bring this copy home. With a glass of Jameson and some cringing I took this book home. I am thinking that three is enough as I have other things in 2017 to buy. There you go... proper scans of my three copies.
  21. I recently took proper scans of my copies and it was suggested that one of them looked improvable or could go up by a half grade. That's not a risk I am willing to take and am pleased with what I have since they aren't going anywhere right now.
  22. I find it kind of devious on the buyer's part when the seller offers to take the item back for a refund and the buyer doesn't want to give the item back.
  23. I think that ASM 700 (or it was issue 1 of the third series) was allowed a 9.8 with a small bindery tear.
