  1. Has anyone seen an announcement from Metropolis or Comicconnect about starting to charge sales tax? I know Heritage and Comiclink both sent out emails but I never saw anything from those guys. Maybe I missed it. I don't see it stated anywhere on either website.

I was just charged tax for a Comicconnect purchase (I'm in Illinois). My initial invoice did not show the tax but when my card got charged it was added. I assumed it was coming but did not expect it with this purchase.

  2. I received an email today that the 7 books I submitted have gone through the initial screening process. It was suggested that one book could get a slight bump with a press but I declined that. The others did not fare so well at this point in the process . I'm really hoping for no PLODs :wishluck: (or newton rings)

I asked if the graders would have any of the old information when the books get to grading.

I was told that the graders will not have any of the old slab information when they get the books, similar to how they are supposedly unaware when pressed books come from CCS. I guess I'll take their word on that. I assume they will compare the grades at the end and charge accordingly. On the plus side, my order might be only $10 per book!  Now the waitingzzz

  3. I recently picked up a great book from elite_comic_source on instagram. You'll see that some who sell also share their personal books together with the ones they're selling. So you might see a book you're looking for and find it's not for sale. I love seeing other peoples books but it's nice to have them in separate sections like they are here.

  4. I've been seeing these for a while. A couple of books I got back at C2E2 had those. I also thought there was no inner well at first but was told otherwise.

I've also been seeing a lot of problems like what's going on in this thread -

    https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/440282-cgc-comic-badly-encased-purchased-from-ebay-seller/

Seems like the book gets shifted during shipping but the seals are not holding. Certainly seems like a defect or quality control issue.

What I'm wondering is how are these inner wells different from the creep engine slabs other than the heat seals? It just seems like two sheets of plastic sealed at the edges with no space inside for the book. Maybe there is room but I just don't see it.  Has anyone cracked one of these out?

So I filled a claim with Paypal and the seller was not happy and threatened to contact his lawyer.

Should I have asked the seller for a refund without filling a claim first ? Was I too harsh by going directly to Paypal ?

Based on your previous posts the seller agreed to a return back in September. If I put myself in the sellers shoes at this point I might think you're trying to pull a fast one.

You came here for advice which for the most part was to return the book to the seller. The seller agreed to the return on or near Sept 25th.

You didn't follow through with the Ebay return and still have the book. Now you've filed a Paypal claim. The seller might be thinking you're trying to somehow keep the book and get your money back.

I don't think anyone here believes you're doing that and I don't know if it would even be possible. But the seller has got to be pretty frustrated since he has as much to lose here as you.

I agree that this really is the fault of CGC and the bad case. If the seller wanted to take the issue of the defective slab to CGC, I would think sooner than later would be better.

Some one lost their mind on that Mask (or playing games), doubt that person pays for it.  Not at all indicative of market.

Going back up in the next auction is my guess, like the accepted reprint popular teenagers an auction or two back.

A guy who says it's his just posted it in a Facebook group. He seems pretty happy about it.

Sensation #31, DC 1944, CGC 6.0 OW pages.

This issue is sought after for the spanking splash. I am showing a picture from another issue.

13 on the census and I own two of them.

I had sent this book to CGC  and I picked up a 6.0 as soon as I saw it listed before I got this one back, because I had been looking for a replacement of my 1st book for a long time.  I wound up with 2, 6.0's.

I paid $641.95 for the other 6.0 copy (plus shipping) Bin is $640.00

    On the same topic,

Does anyone have a link to a thread on the boards, or possibly CGC site, that documents the different CGC holders over the years with the dates that each slab was in use?  I know there are been some issues with various different CGC slabs and that he CGC top label has changed as well as the disclosure on the back of the top label.  Would be greatly appreciated.  I only found posts on specific CGC holder issues but they were unclear on exact/proximate dates the holders were used.

This might be what you're looking for

I get them all the time, I've ignored them.  The listings still show, with the return policy I want (I think the issue is some categories they require 30 say returns)

I was wondering if it might be the category since I do have another item in a different category with the same return policy. It's not listed in the message they sent. I don't know how they expect someone to revise the listing if they don't say exactly what the problem is. Thanks for the info, I will be ignoring these now as well.

You can still require that buyers pay for return shipping, but listings that don't offer free returns are not eligible for Top-Rated status discounts. You also need to allow a 30 day window for returns.

I went to start a listing just to see what options were available and the 14 day option is still there along with 30 and 60 day. So I'm still not sure what the problem is with the  return policy in my listings.

  11. I know this is off topic but since it's Ebay related I figured I would ask here. Has anyone else received this message from Ebay? I got it today. It's not very specific and I don't know what return policy they're referring to. I'm assuming they changed something that I'm not aware of. It must have been very recent though since the 2 listings were put up last week. I'm guessing you can't ask buyers to pay for return shipping anymore but I really don't know.

I pick my books up at Heritage but they proudly charge me sales tax every time

That part was also related to shipping. Apparently if you're given the option to pick up but you  have it shipped instead, you dont get taxed for shipping. If they don't have a pick up option, shipping is taxed. Only in Illinois :screwy:

  13. 10.25% here in Illinois :p. Can anyone beat that?

I was reviewing my last invoice and noticed I was taxed on the shipping as well. I thought shipping was tax exempt but after some research I found out it's pretty complicated in Illinois.:frustrated: The text below is from 2015 so it may be a little different now. If so, it's probably worse.:censored::tonofbricks:

    Illinois
The taxability of shipping in Illinois depends heavily on factors that you, as a consumer, are unlikely to be privy to. For example, if a retailer charges a flat $7.99 shipping fee, but their actual shipping costs for your order are less than that, say $5.50, then the shipping fee is taxable. Which, let's face it is a pretty raw deal for us as consumers since not only are you being charged more than the actual cost of shipping, you're getting hit with a tax on that overcharge on top of it.

What's more, just because shipping is a separate line item on your invoice doesn't mean it's not an inseparable part of the item's cost. If shipping it to you is the only way for you to get it, then Illinois figures the shipping cost is part of the selling price, no matter how the invoice breaks it down.

Finally, there is some thought that sellers may not have to charge sales tax if they offer an in-store pickup option.
