  1. My first two (non-LB Cole related) pre-code purchases. I REALLY like these covers. cloud9.gif

I know Harveys are relatively common. Are these typical of prices paid for nice looking books in the 4.0-5.0 range?

I'd say they're reasonably typical - Harveys are not in as heavy demand as other publishers, especially in mid-grade (barring of course, Black Cat 50 and Tomb Of Terror 15, copies of which are currently on ebay and going for way over FMV).

However those are definitely two of the better covers in the run, the 24 being the issue that Gerber omitted for no apparent reason.

  2. Is that Ernie Chan?? Cant decipher exactly what the last name is following Ernie ...

It is indeed Ernie Chan, as he sometimes chose the surname Chua (as in this case).

Is this true or was he just being creative with how he signed Chan?

Did he ever list his name in any book as Ernie Chua?

Whenever I saw that sig I always knew it was Ernie Chan.

My bad, it was an error at U.S. immigration that meant he had to sign his name "Chua".

  3. No price was too high for me to acquire this once I saw it on Ebay...$1.99

Still have the copy I bought off the rack back in the day. thumbsup2.gif

Me too, plus there was also DC Special #16, which came out at roughly the same time, with the same title re heroes and gorillas, which I also bought off the stands. DC (and Schwarz in particular) certainly liked their Super-Gorillas.

Good fun they may have been, but these daft reprint anthologies were just two of the reasons for the 1978 DC Implosion and Infantino's departure as publisher. 27_laughing.gif

  4. I look forward to rereading these two stories in YET ANOTHER thread. yeahok.gif

I like the way Mr. Brennan mentions his name in the one of the speech bubbles on the opening page of the Aardvark story. Very self-referential. Shades of Neil Gaiman...

Sterl, just to clear things up re what I meant in that post - T. Casey Brennan has posted 17 times on these Forums. Seven times his post was either a link about some prose he'd written in the '70s or the prose in question reproduced, and once was about a poster featuring his rock band.

And NINE times his posts contained either the complete Black Mistress story or The Aardvark story. Or both.

    Enough already.
