  1. The nicest book I saw (and now regret not getting it) was a gorgeous (NM, at least a 9.2) copy of a comic called Great Comics #1. It had the most beautiful L.B. Cole cover I've ever seen!! The seller had it for guide (450), but I passed. Man, that was a pretty cover.

    Here's your second chance...

Well, what did I say. Looks like the book is indeed overpriced - no takers in 6 days...

That book is fairly common, even in the NM range, so another one'll turn up at some point. It is a great cover, though.

  3. Picked up a Special Marvel Edition 1 and 2 from Greggy.

    Greggy reads Marvel?

Nope greggy sells Marvels to buy DC's which I'm assuming he reads, unless the other post here was correct. I know he can read graemlin for sure and thats more than I can say.

I think Greggy sells Marvels to buy DC's to have someone read them to him. I am not convienced Greggy can actually read. devil.gif

Never underestimate the gregster - behind those graemlins there lurks a very sharp mind who can snag deals whilst everyone else is off their guard...

  4. WoW! This whacked cover could be the proof that the Superior "maple leaf" isn't a maple leaf at all..... screwy.gif

Mysteries (Weird And Strange) has got to be THE pre-code horror title with the most amateurish, sloppy cover art (although Journey Into Fear sometimes comes close).

The shadows and/or token symbolic elements in this cover are so badly done, yet somehow it still has a certain feel. Probably drawn in about half an hour, though.

  5. I will have to check that out. I might also just pick up all of his issues, no matter what series. Do you know if there is a checklist somewhere?

I'm not aware of a checklist, although there is a book called The Big Five by Chris Pedrin that details virtually all of DC's war output from the early 50s onwards. Motor City Comics had a stack of them (they bought out the remaindered copies), so give them a call.

As far as appearances, I think Enemy Ace was basically OAAW 151, 153, 155, Showcase 57, 58, and then SSWS 138 - 150, followed by the debut of the Unknown Soldier in 151 (who first appeared in OAAW 168). I don't think there were any further apperances in that era, except for Batman 219.

  6. Those are cool books Oct, congrats. I'm getting more into war books every day. Probably because I've already seen or already own all the BA Horror DCs, but I haven't even scratched the surface with DC War books and there are just so many out there. I'm even branching out to the Westerns. I may tackle All-Star Western #1-11 next. Not sure though if Westerns classify as war or not, I mean, is Cowboys Vs. other Cowboys or Vs. Indians war? Or is it just a fight?

Also, although I normally don't read my comics, I was thinking of picking one or two to read just to get a feel for them. Any suggestions as to which BA DC War books I should read, any particular issues? Thanks.

Weird that you should ask which ones are good reads, as I just finished SSWS 139 and 140 about 15 minutes ago, which are the only two BA war books I have ever read. They were EXCELLENT. Far better than the superhero or horror books I have read from the same time period. I am now going to focus on getting the whole run of Enemy Ace books from 138 on up, just to read them. Seriously good stuff and Kubert's interior art is amazing, as always.

I've got virtually all of that series, so nice discovery, there. There's the Enemy Ace archive too, which reprints OAAW 151, Showcase 57, 58, etc.

Kubert's art on that series rivals just about any other artist in the Silver and Bronze Ages. A true master.

  7. actually here's the ID deal:

cadaver is being changed to CainTheCaretaker, pending Arch approval. I agree with lok that the id could use a makeover; I was just hanging on for the "afterlife" theme of my sig.

Oh yeah, SterlingTheEvilElf will be instigated 12/25/2005!!! (see Ask Greggy) and will ony post on Christmas day of every year!

Glad to see you're sorting out your personality crisis there, Jacob, I mean Cain, I mean Sterling. tongue.gif
