Another favorite.
I remember buying that book when it came out - still a personal favorite......

Gary Cove has finally resurfaced.
"Going to have a bloody baby"! Nice work Red.
-
Which is more scary... the floating vamp chick head, or the flame wielding hump-back midget?!
The guy on the left scares me the most!
Yeah, a green tie with a gray suit - horrendous!! I daren't look!!!

Careful you. or i'll turn up on your doorstep with several mice for ya!I'll send one of my clan to protect you.Why do I not feel especially reassured?
Brilliant.
How will I know which mouse is you??

He's just being shilly.
Well, Andy, at least I got the photos done without Gary Cove.
I was just making a point about a naysayer.
Needless to say, great pics. An installment on the Comic Zone should be in the offing.........
-
By the way congrats on being the second person to do it.
And I love you too.
And I still think I'm the first.
He's just being shilly.

I'm not saying nuffin' now.
Dagnabbit and consarn it, Pov is right. The Thing! 16 may be common, but it has a damn fine cover.
The cover is a depiction of Pov after a night on the town.

It was cheap, what the hell eh?

Two questions:
1) What indicates that the comic is a 'Stan Lee File Copy'
2) How do you determine the value of such a comic?
The Stan Lee File Copies came with a certificate - that would be the only indicator, as they vary wildly in grades and defects.
The market dictates the value - although for research purposes you could try completed ebay and Heritage auctions to get an idea of what sort of premiums are expected for each book.

"When bidding wars go bad!"
Love that cover, but 2X guide is
That book went for way more than 2 X guide........

Looking for an issue of Fantastic Comics #3 if anyone has got one.
So is Goldust.
Only one I've seen (not that I've been looking) was sold by Heritage in 3/02.
$12,650 including the juice, which means it went for 4 X 2002 OS. Ah well, it is a truly scarce book.
Wonder who won it??
Probably the same guy who has every other copy of FANTASTIC #3(except for the two owned by Jon Berk!).
Yeah, I know, it was a rhetorical question. Anyone here know Jon Berk, and whether he might part with one of his two copies???

Nice issue #1 here's my issue #2
Great book, and seldom seen as well. Looks better than the assigned grade.
Err, anyone got a copy of the next issue??

Interesting intro to the world of pre-code horror and crime, and a decidedly odd cover (never seen it before, either).
As usual with pre-code Ace covers, there's too much unwieldy exposition, although that does lend them a certain charm.

Thanks for the information. I'm amazed at the knowledge of so many comic collectors. Yes, it is a Wally Wood cover. Is he still around?
Sadly he died over two decades ago.

Lets get this straight Mr. october_Fire
You stated in an earlier thread you were Heterosexual. Are you sure?Oooh. I am jealous! This coming from a "man" who wears a skirt.
If a kilt is a skirt. How come you never see any women wearing them with their sporrons?
I'm the Englishman here and I have to tell you that it's spelt sporran???

Just thinking about BA horror again as always, thought I would posit a question for discussion here. If HOM and HOS are the big two IE the Pepsi and Coke of BA Horror. What the third title? What is the Snapple of the BA horror genre?
Excluding Marvels I'd go for Witching Hour.
And I think the Unexpected is underrated........

Looks like the pre-code is having a nice week on ebay. Here's a few books I didn't win....wish I'd pulled the trigger on that Haunted Thrills when Heritage had it as a BIN of $185 on their website.
$185? Dammit. That would've been a steal, although it's not the best cover of the run.
Looks like these books are going strong again.
Any worthwhile title above FN with decent pages always has competition and serious bidding, and it's always the usual suspects. There just isn't that much quality pre-code horror on ebay.......

Great cover - one of the best of the run. Looks very HG.
-
The only thing I know is that Mike Goldman of Motor City Comics bought the collection in portions over a period of time - maybe there's something on his website about it.......
-
Big Kudos to DrBanner for some nice BA horror, expertly graded, packed and shipped to my door within 4 days of payment - bear in mind I'm in the U.K.!!! Great stuff.

I'd say they're fudging the issue partly (as you stated) because of their EC bias, but also to allow for more issues to gain importance. There can only be one 1st horror comic, one first cover featuring horror as its' main constituent, one 1st horror series, one 1st horror story and one 1st horror adaptation.
That's five comics. Using terms such as "weird" (which was banned from usage by the code, but is nevertheless too vague a term) and "supernatural" (which IMO is not a genre but an element that can be used in many other genres) merely allows for more key or significant issues.
