  1. Wanted to continue the discussion earlier but we had a tremendous sunset here on the east coast and was summoned to go for a kayak ride.

POV, I believe I see your point, you're asking that Overstreet designate more accurately the distinctions between horror and science fiction books including notes.

Are you looking for examples like this?

    XXX Comics # 12

    Horror cover

    Contents: Jungle and crime reprints

Journey into YYY Worlds # 34

    Scince Fiction cover

    Contents: werewolf story

If OS would do that, that would be pretty sweet. My main thrust, though, is trying to figure out why OS has come up with such terms as "weird", "supernatural" and "horror" and broken specifics books out based on such terms. I want to know the experts in the genre that contributed to the definitions OS is currently using, and the criteria used to determine these definitions. To me it is a rather shoddy approach with no real basis beyond, possibly, some dealers and advisors giving a stab at these definitions.

I'd say they're fudging the issue partly (as you stated) because of their EC bias, but also to allow for more issues to gain importance. There can only be one 1st horror comic, one first cover featuring horror as its' main constituent, one 1st horror series, one 1st horror story and one 1st horror adaptation.

That's five comics. Using terms such as "weird" (which was banned from usage by the code, but is nevertheless too vague a term) and "supernatural" (which IMO is not a genre but an element that can be used in many other genres) merely allows for more key or significant issues.

  2. I use copies of that book and THE THING #16 as placemats.

Don't you do dissing that THING 16 now. That's all I'm gonna SAY about it.

    I'm not saying nuffin' now.

Dagnabbit and consarn it, Pov is right. The Thing! 16 may be common, but it has a damn fine cover.

The cover is a depiction of Pov after a night on the town. tongue.gif

  3.

    Two questions:

    1) What indicates that the comic is a 'Stan Lee File Copy'

    2) How do you determine the value of such a comic?

The Stan Lee File Copies came with a certificate - that would be the only indicator, as they vary wildly in grades and defects.

The market dictates the value - although for research purposes you could try completed ebay and Heritage auctions to get an idea of what sort of premiums are expected for each book.

  4. Looking for an issue of Fantastic Comics #3 if anyone has got one.

    gossip.gif So is Goldust.

Only one I've seen (not that I've been looking) was sold by Heritage in 3/02.

$12,650 including the juice, which means it went for 4 X 2002 OS. Ah well, it is a truly scarce book.

    Wonder who won it?? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Probably the same guy who has every other copy of FANTASTIC #3(except for the two owned by Jon Berk!).

Yeah, I know, it was a rhetorical question. crazy.gif Anyone here know Jon Berk, and whether he might part with one of his two copies???

  5. Oooh. I am jealous!
You stated in an earlier thread you were Heterosexual. Are you sure? devil.gifinsane.gif

This coming from a "man" who wears a skirt. screwy.gif27_laughing.gif

Lets get this straight Mr. october_Fire insane.gif

If a kilt is a skirt. How come you never see any women wearing them with their sporrons? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I'm the Englishman here and I have to tell you that it's spelt sporran???

  6. Just thinking about BA horror again as always, thought I would posit a question for discussion here. If HOM and HOS are the big two IE the Pepsi and Coke of BA Horror. What the third title? What is the Snapple of the BA horror genre? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Excluding Marvels I'd go for Witching Hour.

And I think the Unexpected is underrated........

  7. Looks like the pre-code is having a nice week on ebay. Here's a few books I didn't win....wish I'd pulled the trigger on that Haunted Thrills when Heritage had it as a BIN of $185 on their website.

$185? Dammit. That would've been a steal, although it's not the best cover of the run.

Looks like these books are going strong again.

Any worthwhile title above FN with decent pages always has competition and serious bidding, and it's always the usual suspects. There just isn't that much quality pre-code horror on ebay.......
