  1. Newsstand was the common method of distribution until early direct market came along around 1977 or so. Newsstand isn't a "rare" item during the 80's but as we approach the early 90's the ratio of newsstand to direct market took a steady decline. The distinction is that Newsstand Editions are much more scarce in higher grade due to the distribution channels. Fast forward to present day and the ratio is the lowest it has been in history for newsstand editions, 1% or less of a particular title's print run. This now makes them tougher to find, ie "rare" and tougher to obtain in high grade. For example, what do you think is tougher to put together, a New DC 52 run of Batman in only newsstand format or collecting all the 1 in 50 variant covers that each issue produces. This does make it extremely rare and in 5 to 10 years completionists may be scratching their head looking for these books. I've eluded to this numerous times over the years. This is not some theory as someone mentioned earlier. You don't need 3rd party grading companies to acknowledge it and put it on their label to make it fact. Collectors need to educate themselves and each other.
  2. Yes, every single Fantastic Four Canadian is accounted for, untouched, pristine and looking better than the stuff that is delivered this week to the comic shops by Diamond.
  3. This is why they are fun to collect in high grade. I pass on VF copies in stores/at shows all the time. True 9.4+ copies are much more difficult to find. A NM set would be something to behold. Finding pristine copies is a collecting treat. The thrill of the hunt is dead for me. I've been sitting on nearly 12,000 copies of unsold/undistributed Canadian Price Variants, it's been yielding many of the highest graded copies. It's been years and I still have not sifted through all of it Have the keys all be picked? I have them mostly set aside for a rainy day, don't want to flood the market with multiple copies. No, they aren't sale. It's a long meticulous process and yielding record prices when done properly. Me and my checkbook want to come to Canada to visit you. Unfortunately, not for sale. The stuff is too good being uncirculated to the public and never touched except when it was carefully stored in bags and stacked neatly on shelves, never even having the cover opened or pages turned. It was like stepping into a time machine and going back 25 to 30 years with that fresh comic smell hitting you instantly. Yielding multiple copies of unsold store stock.

We should coordinate timing of putting keys in 9.6/ 9.8 up for sale then to avoid stunting the prices for one another. That's why I avoid talking specifics on issues. The number of raw 1st Beta Ray's stashed away with that 75¢ glaring like a neon sign, ready to pounce at the sniff of speculation.

  7. The under copy sold for $100.00 USD and the CGC 9.8 White Pages will be coming up for auction tonight with no reserve.
  8. This book is garbage and always was. It never sold for more than 25% of guide and you would have to blow out sets because it was pure junk from an art and stories standpoint. I'm pretty happy to have blown out my 22 copies in CGC 9.8, along with a slew of CGC 9.6's and 9.4's, long before the movie in December 2015. I can't believe people paid $500 for it 4 years ago, with my last copies selling for $1,800 to $2,000 for books that each cost me 25¢ + grading fees in 2012. Just ridiculous to waste that kind of money. But I see it over and over again with any movie and T.V hype. Just shampoo, rinse and repeat.
  9. I sold a 9.8 for $800 a few months ago. me too! We should start a club that sell to complete i_diots
  10. After hearing that video, sounds pretty much word for word of issue #100. Should be pretty straight forward and can't see the show going off the path. Anyone know about these original actor's contracts and whether they are in negotiation for more money. More money means kill off when the show is bigger than any one actor on it.
  11. Yeah, get Glenn gotta there. He's always so sweaty, greasy looking, disgusting.
  12. Is this due to Civil War flick or 2nd Taskmaster? I think it's just because of Civil War and that the whole 'Ant Man on the Arrow' thing was in the last trailer. Nice to see people buying comics for the shiny covers these days and not the stories. It's also Taskmaster's 3rd app. as Marvel Team Up #103 is the 2nd full appearance with a much better cover for the shiny object collectors.
  13. I've submitted nearly 2,000 in the last year and have had a 82% accuracy rate, with the other 10% being graded higher by CGC and the other 8% graded lower and it has become tighter since grader's notes. Speaking from decades of experience, people are not imagining this tighter phase and back and forth swing of flaws such as printer's creases. Also, it seems that CGC is grading on a "pressing" curve and are much more harsh on books that are pressed. I'm not referring to the hacks that press improperly. There seems to be this outlook that a pressed book is graded on a tougher bell curve.
  14. You were fortunate. Imho, this last year has been the tightest CGC has ever been on Moderns - I do a ton of SS books where I crack out 9.8s and I've never experienced this many grade drops upon resubmission. I like tight grading as much as the next guy, but I feel they've moved the needle way too far in the other direction now. Much, much too far. My latest sub was 280 SS books. Got a fair number of 9.8s....but I SUB 9.8s...and the rest was all over the map. 9.4 80's, 9.0 70's. Things that didn't use to be a problem...like production corner chips, which are as common as anything in 1980's books...are now being taken into account. Also, printer's creases, which used to be taken into account wayyyy back in the early days, and then no longer taken into account (which is as it should be) are now apparently being taken into account. The issue is that I knew what CGC graded 9.8, and what they did not. Now, I'm back to second guessing, and looking for total perfection before submitting (and still not getting above 9.8, either.) I cannot waste my time submitting a Web of Spiderman #31 and getting a 9.4. That slab is worth much less than it cost to get done. That's not acceptable. Also, I'm getting grading notes like "top front cover rippling/warping, bottom front cover rippling/warping"...on books like Silver Surfer #44 (1991). Every single copy of that book has that issue, as do most Marvels of that time frame (which is partly why Marvel went to offset printing and abandoned newsprint in 1992, and DC did the same.) That's something that Shawn Caffrey knows, because he's done this for so long. It's not something that the "new graders" seem to know, and it seems to be having an effect on grades. CGC cannot change its standards at halftime. We shall see how this turns out. This I know, and this I hope everybody at CGC understands: if a book is in a 9.8 slab, and it hasn't been damaged in the process...and there are enough ultra, ultra, ultra anal SS guys who don't let anything happen to the book in the process...and it comes back in a 9.6 or 9.4 slab....it's not going to be conducive to business. It's high time for a "guaranteed grade" program...and it's certainly possible to implement, if the will is there. This is the best post I've seen in this forum. Ever since CGC started including grader's notes it seems that any flaw is picked apart and treated much more harshly. The grading standards do appear to have changed and flaws such as the manufacturer corner chips and also printer's creases are getting hammered worse then ever before. The level of inconsistency from the graders is causing many of us to rethink a new business strategy and/or provider. It was said very well above, CGC can't change it's standards at halftime.
  15. Not happening but a big thank you to the people who speculate and not true comic collectors. No Shang-Chi for you
  16. That would explain why my 2 CGC 9.6 copies just sold within minutes today. What did you get for them? $405 USD and $430 USD, can't argue with 700% profit margins. That book has been undervalued for years and this news will inflate prices tremendously before settling at a decent FMV.
  17. That would explain why my 2 CGC 9.6 copies just sold within minutes today.
  18. Exactly, well said... I love when common sense prevails The same scenario occured on CL with All Star Comics#58 when that was "thrilled" to $3,000 +. I can't remember the exact amount. These books NEVER sold for that much and were available at any given time for much less. You can't really believe that some non-savvy buyer isn't going to do their due diligence before buying a book. Heck, I'm not savvy with new T.V's but when I bought one I didn't just go to a store and spend ridiculous amounts of money before doing my due diligence. Its in the best interest of these on-line auction sites to "realize" these astronomical results. Its free marketing to make people think they will get the best prices. Some "thrilling" just gets out of hand and the poor consignor has no recourse but to relist.
  19. Consignor will never see payment on this thrill bidding. Especially with 9.8 copies plummeting faster than a lead balloon and this BS result going way above realistic sales. I was thinking the same bidder may have bid on the IH181 9.6 for 7200 and the TMNT1 9.8 for 22k.......to name a few more stunners Except there is prior recent pricing support for those results, whereas you have this from just this last Sunday for Star Wars 1: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-1-CGC-9-8-/322007502869?hash=item4af9249015:g:5t4AAOSwG-1Wv0W~ That price on Comic Link is completely bogus. -J. There are many manipulated sales on that site that it makes one's head spin. But why not when they have no one to prove it to and so much to gain by boasting record results.

  21. She expects her Emmy nomination and invitation in the mail this Monday.
  22. I once had a book that I sent through Canada Post and USPS to Arizona. The package had tracking and showed delivered but the recipient said it never arrived. I didn't send it with signature required. I made a claim with Canada Post and received my money back for the insured amount through Canada Post in the form of a mailed cheque. Did you send the package with "signature required" for the extra $1.50 through Canada Post?
  23. I loved both episodes! It felt like the early seasons, and for me, it didn't miss a beat. Fox has a winner and I hope it leads to talks to do another season in the near future.
  24. Showcase96 #3 says March 1996 but the book was released 3 months earlier and was on the stands in January 1996. All books are generally dated 2 to 3 months ahead of their release month.
  25. Showcase 96 #3 is the 1st appearance and it has been on people's radars for some time now.
