  1. There have been a number of television announcements this week: (1) Ice Cream Man; (2) Sweet Tooth; (3) October Faction; and (4) Warrior Nun Areala are all in development. I have seen these comics dry up on eBay and then 24 hours or so later become available at an increasingly rich price tag as sellers unload copies. Universal Cable Productions who also developed Happy is developing Sweet Tooth and Ice Cream Man (which is apparently being written by the duo who developed Sneaky Pete). Warrior Nun Areala is owned by the same parent company that owns the beloved comic news website BleedingCool who has already run a lengthy story about this Netflix project and October Faction (also in development for a Netflix original). There's been a lot of spec heat on Ninja High School issues 37 (and 38). I have not done enough research but it appears that the Warrior Nun chararacter first appears in NHS 37 and not in issue 38 and that the character who appears on the cover to issue 38 is a related character but not Warrior Nun (who I think is named Shannon). The consensus appears to be that the Warrior Nun first appears in the ongoing series and that her real life persona's first appearance is in NHS 37. That being said, people still argue on here about Hulk 180/181, and I'm certain that this will be an opportunity to bicker if this title takes off. There is also a Platinum Cover of number 1 that is limited to 5k copies and an ashcan that predates the first issue of the series. Batman: Damned has maintained its eBay prices. Apparently Azzarello was in Baltimore signing books at a hefty $50 a book pricetag which didn't slow down his line. The announcement that DC will not be publishing a second printing ("at this time") has driven sales which peaked over a hundred dollars. Prices on the SDCC retailer proof variant continue to soar. Carnage appears to have replaced Venom at the top of the spidey spec heap as fans continue to find bread crumbs left by Woody Harelson which they believe indicate that he will be making a cameo appearance in the film and its prospective sequel as the black and red serial killer. I have no idea about the veracity of this conclusion. There's been some buzz about Morbius the Living Vampire to the extent that Sony has stated that he will be the next property featured in a recent press release about Jared Leto embodying the character. This is old news for many, but the recent press release appears to be driving new interest in Amazing Spider-Man 101. Buzz over the Eternals hiring a director continues to move this title on eBay; sales have been strong and show no signs of slowing down. Similarly, we've seen renewed interest in Birds of Prey related comics as a result of casting decisions made by Warner Brothers.
  2. At the risk of speaking for ygogolak, I think what we are both trying to say is that if you feel the need buy it this second you should be able to secure one for around $350 (if you get really lucky maybe you score one for $300), but if you hold on for a few months you may be able to procure one for $300 (and if you get super lucky maybe you steal one in the $250 range). Unless they abruptly end the series, I doubt you're going to see one any lower than that. The fan base is too strong to allow that to happen.
  3. They are coming down slowly but surely ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Saga-1-CGC-9-8-First-Printing/323444879218?hash=item4b4ed12f72:g:Q64AAOSwx2lbmnU4 https://www.ebay.com/itm/First-Printing-Saga-1-CGC-9-8-NM-M-Image-2012-1st-Marko-Alana-Hazel/253888187948?hash=item3b1cea4e2c:g:B9QAAOSwEJlbpaEG
  4. It's remarkable and I anticipate that people are going to dig in now because DC has halted the 2nd printing (I assume in favor of a TBA Hardcover, limited, engraved, blah, blah they know how to make money). I think this was a brilliant move on DC's part capitalizing on the 2ndary market and insuring that this book will keep it's buzz until the final orders are placed for the third issue. No one ever said they didn't know how to sell comics (I just hope they figure out how to sell movie tickets).

  6. It feels like the Death of Superman all over again. I wonder if I can sell the dozen or so copies of that book I have on ebay if I label them "just like Batman: Damned minus the pecker plus a dead body" In all seriousness, I don't think a 100K print run is that big of a print run when a lot of these books are going to get damaged because of their oversize (I don't see people doing a good job of bagging and boarding the issue or refraining from showing people the panel that is causing all the craziness. At the same time, it is biter sweet for me because I really enjoyed the story and have been looking forward to the DC Dark imprint. I'm afraid we may get a water down DC Dark and not get the kind of mature stories I was looking for out of this label. I hope that fear isn't well placed. It's interesting that the pentagram isn't getting attention from holy rollers like I imagined it would. There was a time when that would have been a mechanism to demonize this book by a misguided members of the press. Thoughts?
  7. Early Chew and early Walking Dead are some of my all time favorite comics. I stopped reading the Walking Dead shortly after issue 100. It lost alot of its appeal for me which was in chaacter driven story telling. For whatever reason, I stopped having a real emotional response to the title like I had when I first started reading it. I am looking forward to catching up on Saga over the next year or so, and sad that I sold all my RRPs and individual issues. I can't imagine a scenario where I would pay for another RRP at the price tag it demands today. I'm interested in seeing whether the price tag on Saga will experience a substantial dip in the next year and to what extent AMC can get people excited about the Walking Dead again (e.g., killing characters, time hopping, etc.). There was a lot of buzz about the Walking Dead day blackbags at my LCS yesterday (I stopped by after hitting the gym before going home) which I did not expect.
  8. I have mental issues. I'm already picturing a CGC SS Tom Hardy in my colleciton.
  9. This thread in particular but the modern sub category as well. I've legitimately been off the boards for a couple of years, but there used to really active threads (Walking Dead, Saga, Chew, etc) with people talking about what books they enjoyed, what they were reading, what they were looking forward to reading, what they were buying, etc. People posting pictures of new purchases, sales info, etc. It was a genuinely a happier, more enthusiastic group. I've been reading the threads again for a month or two and there are less posts, incessant debating and not a lot of real thoughtful discussion. I think your response is the answer to my question. People like yourself got tired of free riders and have stopped sharing or moved elsewhere. The tragedy of the commons.
  10. "Sounds like something someone would say who was trying to cover up a conspiracy." Bad joke. But there's a reason that markets are regulated as collusion, price fixing, pump and dumps, etc. are real things. Pretending that they aren't is naive (at best) or delusional.
  11. I talked to a couple dealers at a con in cinci this weekend and asked them "what happened to the CGC boards?" They suggested that there is a conscious effort by big players in the comic retail market to keep certain information off the boards. I certainly don’t know to what extent this true or false. Regardless, I would like to discuss what people are buying and what people are selling and why in an intelligent way. So as not to contribute to the downward spiral of bickering and hopeless sarcasm and in an effort to be the change I want to see in the boards - these are some observations off the top of my head after spending the weekend at a convention (please forgive me for using CGC's definition of modern 1975-present for purposes of this post, but it seems to make more sense to do that): (1) the reddit rumor mill is pumping up Captain Britain / Black Knight keys; with specific emphasis on Marvel Team Up 65. It sounds too good to be true, and I'm not buying. I hope the movie gets made and it’s amazing. (2) Captain Marvel continues to rule the day. All of the leaked characters' keys continue to do well. Avengers 346 (Starforce) appears to be doing better than Hulk 418 / 419 (Talos the Tamed). There is obviously some interest in Inhumand 11, Quasar 32 (Korath); Ms. Marvel 9 (Deathbird); Quasar 9 (Captain Atlas); Ultimus (Wonder Man 7); and Cap Vol. 3, 8 (Bron Char), but most of the buzz at the con was around Amazing Spider-Man Annual 16 (Monica Rambeau). Of course all iterations of Carol Danvers continue to perform well with Ms. Marvel 1 and Avenging Spider-Man 9 leading the way. I remain shocked with the performance of Captain Marvel 17 2nd print (Kamala Khan) which continues strong sales (a 9.8 just sold for $1,277. I don't believe that Kamala Khan is necessarily where I will invest, but I respect the price tag its demanding. (3) It was Batman Day so I may have Batman on the brain, but people were buying and selling Bat books. 1st appearance of Talia al Ghul was sought after as an undervalued key. There were no original Detective 880s to be found. Detective 871 (2nd Print) - is increasing popular and increasingly difficult to find (I'm on the verge of posting about it in the WTB section as I no longer have a personal copy). In light of the variant reprint of 880, it appears that some collectors are moving towards 871 and that the red cover on the 2nd print is the book that few people are talking about publically, but many are trying to buy privately. I suspect this book will perform as well as or better than its 1st print counter part for some period of time in the future. Harley Quinn 1st appearance 2K in 9.8. I saw one copy and the dealer wasn’t interested in moving from that price tag in light of the recent Ebay sale for that amount. I was surprised that the White Knight comic was on people’s walls and selling. I was fearful that I was the only person who loved this series. That being said, I saw no slabbed copies and don’t see that book moving well on ebay. I can’t tell if dealers are over invested, hope that others love the book as much as they do or what exactly was the impetus for displaying these books so prominently. (4) Donny Cates - This guy performs. He legitimately has the midas touch (e.g., he champions Carnage Mind Bomb and the book blows up). Cosmic Ghostrider stays hot with particular emphasis on Thanos 13 sans the lenticular cover. Not sure why Redneck doesn’t sell anymore. I really enjoy the title, but what he is doing with the marvel mashups is really popular right now. (5) It's a venom nation and that includes Carnage and most of the rest of the symbiotes. I'm excited about Tom Hardy's portrayal of character more than I am disappointed about the film straying from the cannon origin story. I'm real interested in where the heat will go after the final credits role on opening weekend. I anticipate big numbers at the box office and that should mean continued big numbers on ebay. Concomitantly, Venom 165, Edge of Spidergeddon 2, etc. continue to sell well. There's a lot of heat around What If 105 (1998) and the Gwen Stacey, Silk and Miles Morales keys continue to do well. I noticed a number of dealers pushing the 1st appearance of Spider-Woman (Marvel Spotlight 32 (1977) as an undervalued spec book. I did not pull the trigger. -- It is an increasingly interesting market for me. It's hard for me to reconcile why properties like Legion (who has a good TV show even if it has little do with his comic character) and comics like Umbrella Academy (which is coming to netflix) see little to no heat, but books like Captain Britain take off because of a reddit rumor.
  12. It’s a shame how the boards have deteriorated in the last 5 years. It’s painful to read the constant bickering about “the first true appearance of Wolverine” in “Moderns that are heating up on Ebay.” ?‍♂️
  13. Mention that you are a CGC boardie and receive a 10% discount off listed price. http://outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed.ebay.com/outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575378759&campid=5338273189&customid=&icep_item=223143816960&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&toolid=11111 http://outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed.ebay.com/outside-affiliatelinksnotallowed/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575378759&campid=5338273189&customid=&icep_item=223143785334&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&toolid=11111
  14. The final page of the Strange Talent of Luther Strode #1. Found this today.
  15. I've been out of the comic spec market for a couple years, but have always found the spec rumor mill to be like the children's telephone game. The furter you stray fro the source the more outlandish the story gets. Since I've been reading comics again (about a month), I can say with confidence that Cates is a treasure and I'll follow his tips on what to read when he gives them.
  16. I think color can be sufficient if the circumstances are right and it's only a second printing (e.g., Walking Dead 33 2nd print & unless I'm way off we'll see just color do it for Detective 871). As far as another hot second print goes, the first appearance of Winter Soldier in Captain America Vol. 5 No. 6 (the Bucky Barnes cover) should be a big book when the sequel to the Captain America movie starts getting promoted more.
  17. Have these issues started to increase in price or does this post belong in the speculation thread. Don't get me wrong, I think this book is a goof buy and that it will definitely increase in price (particularly if the TV Show is a hit. Finally, why does the following post suggest that their is a debate about this book being the true first appearance of Agent Coulson? I thought it was pretty cut and dry that Battle Scars No. 1 is the first appearance of Colson in the 616 but that the true first appearance is this first appearance of in Marvel comics.
  18. Wow how patronizing do you want to be I don't know about us ruining Bedlam but you're ruining this thread with your constant bickering with Larry and simple rudeness towards other board members Seriously Andy, get a grip. Your posts are increasingly unstable, your personal attacks are rude and improper and your analysis is anything but rational. As others have suggested, go start another thread and cry and complain in it and leave this one alone. You are only harming dialogue and discouraging members from reading this tread so that they can avoid your nonsense.
  19. It's more helpful to post facts, new references, etc. From both a persuasive rhetorical, marketing and linguistics stand point that it just plain more effective advocacy. I personally couldn't care less about Peter Pazerfaust's cameo, but I do know the rules for winning debates/conversations with people who aren't equipped with information or facts. .
  20. Love the Ghost variant. It looks way better in person. I think we'll see this book climb to $25 each like the WD Ghost variant.
  21. I want to sell a large number of raw Revival books, but I'd like to do it in a lot rather than having to piece out individual issues. I've got 2 sketches, 6 variant 1:10, a Third Eye, 5 regulars, 3 FCBD's and 10 WD 99's. Is it going to be impossible to sell them all as one lot or maybe 2 or 3 lots. I'm happy to take a reasonable hit on the price tag to move them all, but I want to make up for the reduced price by selling them with haste. Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated. Is it impossible to move them all at a reasonable price in a lot? I know someone's going to complain about this but, I think it's a legit question. If you want to PM me instead of discussing it here because you don't think it's helpful to others stockpiling this book or because you don't like to encourage discussion regarding sales, speculation, etc., I certainly understand. Thanks in advance for thinking about it. I appreciate it.
