  3. There is nothing substantial about the recent Valkyrie news. The actress said she wanted a movie with the director of Creed II. There are actors all the time saying they want to play this or that character. Doesn't mean anything. https://comicbook.com/marvel/2018/11/28/creed-ii-director-steven-caple-jr-valkyrie-movie-tessa-thompson/ I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt to the "news" source that he did report based upon that old article. If that is the source of his reporting, I am very disappointed by the reporting. He has been dead on with some of his stuff before it hit other press sources so, I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt. Only time will tell. I, of course, remain very cautious about actually spending money on this character as a potential spec/invest opportunity.
  4. It all stems from a comic spec media outlet (that's a really nice way to say it) reporting the "news" with those issues identified as the key issues. They were selling the issues as a pair last time I checked on eBay. The spec market is bannanas right now.
  5. Big Week in Modern Comics heating up on eBay: Marvel announced that it was fast tracking Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu. His books are heating up. The Russo Brothers did an informative Q&A and proclaimed that they were done with super-hero movies after Avengers 4 unless and until Kevin Feige approached them about a Secret Wars franchise (although I generally discourage debate about first appearances, I am interested in what people think the market will determine is the Beyonder's first appearance). Into the Spiderverse is getting rave early reviews. Many believe that EOSV 5 Penni Parker's first appearnace is undervalued although I've heard nothing about her role in the film. I have heard people say that Nick Cage steals the show with his Spider-man Noir character (I think the B cover is undervalued for a number of reasons that I won't get into). Prices on EOSV 2 CGC 9.8 are high and I am disappointed that I am not holding any copies of that book. The post credit scene has leaked: There was also reports that Valkyrie was getting looked at for her own film in phase 4 but this was quickly overshadowed by a definitive statement regarding the future of Shang-Chi as a film property. I'm not sure where the Valyrie news came from. This was first reported after her character did not appear in Avengers 4. Nevertheless, her first appearnce and key variant cover spiked. DC announced that it is developing a Zatanna film and a Blue Beattle film (Reyes). Both books are seeing some heat with Blue Beatle appearing to receive more attention than Zatanna. Infinite Crisis 3 and 5 have sold well. Last time I checked there wasn't much movement on the Adam Hughes Zatanna covers (in her solo series of the Catwoman series). Aquaman has received positive reviews coupled with underhanded comments. Shazam has received little press attention, but hopefully this changes with the release of his new series this week. The Immortal Hulk books continue to sell well. The Alex Ross cover art is amazing with issues 2 and 3 leading the pack. It was also reported that Hack/Slash was optioned for TV/film again. In light of the resurgance of horror comics of late, I think there is long term potential here. I think the big undervalued books are issues 16 and 17 of the DDP series that Diamond's lawyers directed them not to distribute. I don't know what the print run is on these books, but I can't imagine a direct distribution from the publisher was substantial. There are a ton of amazing covers for this series. Although interest spiked early, it faded away quick. This is one of the few properties I think has real potential in Hollywood. I'm sure there was a lot more, but that's what stuck out to me. Happy hunting you bunch of savages!
  6. I think everyone has a different strategy when they go shopping and alot of it depends on the size of the convention, what I'm in the mood to do and if I'm looking for anything in particular. Sometimes I am want to browse first, other times I want to target newer dealers whose stuff I haven't seen, other times I'm shopping for specific comics. I agree that the less organized a dealer's wares are the more likely I am going to find something that others have overlooked. I find that a lot of the time people don't know what they have (not so much that they don't know the value of something more that they literally don't know what they have in their inventory).
  7. Loss Leaders work best in places like super markets where a person shows up to get cheap paper products, soft drinks, etc. and ends up spending a few hundred dollars on other items. I think your analysis of why it works for a dealer at certain conventions but not at others is spot on.
  8. This is my week in review (and if I miss a few things forgive me I'm clearly writing this off the top of my head): I think the big news of the week is that Wonder Woman 1984 Writer David Callaham is Now writing a film For Marvel Studios. There's been a ton of speculation about what this as yet undisclosed project is and that has driven sales on a number of items from Dark Avengers (New Avengers 49, Dark Avengers), to Young Avengers. Clearly, your guess is as good as mine and I have a lot of curiosity, but no real great ideas about this forthcoming project. The book Rags stayed hot with the 2nd print foil cover getting big numbers on eBay. Similarly, there was a lot of interest in Road of the Dead Highway to Hell and both Punchline covers (apparently a lot of those books were damages in certain parts of the country (mine) and there was a really short print run on that book. Outer Darkness and Transdimensional both sold out at my local shops and were well received in my area. It is becoming axiomatic, but the DC cover B's sold well with the Aquaman Justice League cover and Green Lantern cover leading the way for Deathstroke and Batman. We saw a little bit of action with casting decisions for the forthcoming Swamp Thing DC Streaming series drive sales on Swamp Things books (e.g., "Kevin Durand is in the midst of negotiations to play Jason Woodrue (the first appearance run down is as follows Jason Woodrue, The Atom #1 (not a modern book or cheap); fFirst appearance as Floronic Man is The Flash (vol. 1) #245 (same); and his first appearance The Seeder is Swamp Thing #21 which is an Allen Moore origin issue that is kinda pricey); similarly, Wll Paton was cast as Avery Sunderland and his first appearance is Saga of the Swamp Thing 5 (1982). A television series based on the DC Vertigo comic book series Survivors' Club is apparently being developed for the CW and similarly it looks like Grant Morrison is adapting The Invisibles as part of a deal with Universal who is responsible for getting Happy made driving sales and interest in both titles. Since I'm talking about TV/Film news, I get excited about every little bit of news I hear about the upcoming HBO Watchmen show. It's been reported that Jeremy Irons joined the cast, but the website slashfilm reports that he is playing Ozymandias, and it looks like Legion and Fargo star Jean Smarthas has joined the cast as an FBI agent. Donine Cates apparently tweeted some ambiguous reference to Eddie [Brock] having a sister driving interest in Nova #6, Eddie Brock's younger sister, and Dark Origin #1 the older sister (not sure if there's one sister and poor continuity or two sisters but lord knows I don't care enough to figure that out. People are buying them so I thought I would mention it. Last but not least - the Walking Dead show has time jumped and baby Judith is older (maybe 7 years old or so). There is renewed interest in her issues of the Walking Dead. She first appears in Walking Dead 39 with the surrounding issues being the birth issues. I'm sure there's a bunch of other stuff but that is all that I can remember ... Thoughts?
  9. I think we're going to see an all new x-men cast when those characters enter the MCU. It only makes sense to reboot the x-universe. We're probably also going to see the x-men v. Avengers plot too. I think books like the 1st appearnec of appocolypse (and other x-men keys) are solid investments (IMHO). I say that and we all know that Disney is more than capable of angering the fans of a blue chip franchise (i.e., Star Wars). That being Feige has such an amazing track record with his films and with the fans, it is hard not to bet on that guy's future success.
  10. :That's a painful inquiry. I think I prefer to stay ignorant. Sounds like a Halloween horror story "when TV/film spec goes bad" ... muahahahah
  11. This week the Ghost Spider Hyung vairant tops the charts. It is moving for more than $600 and I am sad that I was not able to secure a copy of this 1:100 variant in the range of $100 - $125 which is the general cost for a ratio variant of this caliber. I imagine that there is a virgin store variant of this cover coming in the future. Only time will tell if this book will sustain its soaring prices. There has been a lot of buzz surrounding Rescue (Peper Potts armor clad iteration) who 1st appears in Invincible Iron Man Vol. 5 No. 10. There is a 2nd print that is getting a ton of attention and a couple variant covers to choose from. There is also some action on issue 12 (it has been suggested that this is her 1st full appearance and that 10 is merely a cameo - which I say against my better judgment b/c God knows I don't want to encourage people to ramble on about that in this thread). There has also been a lot of hype surrounding Kate Bishop (who 1st appears in Young Avengers No. 1 and 1st appears as Hawkeye in Young Avengers Presents No. 6) who is rumored to be appearing in the 4th Avengers film played by the star of the netflix series 13 Reasons Why. There are a couple variants to Young Avengers 1 (a Wizard World sketch and a Marvel Legends variant). There has also been a considerable amount of action on Legionaires No. 0 (as discussed above by prior posters) and Dark Avengers No. 1 (and New Avengers No. 49). The Legioneers has a Zero Hour UPC box variant that is demanding premium prices. Dark Avengers No. 1 has a sketch variant cover (3rd printing) as does Dark Avengers 49 (2nd print). Peter Parker Spider-Man No. 76 is an easy sell at $20. This issue is apparently the 1st appearance of Crown Hunger who is apparently a villian in the forhcoming Morbius movie. There were a number of books that had speculators scrambling on the shelves this week (e.g., (a) source point press book the Rejected (2nd print) has a beautiful cover and has been selling consistently for around $40 on eBay; (b) the Middleton Batgirl variant cover is beautiful and has been selling for about $10 a pop; (c) Aftershock's Dead Kings has been selling well but numbers started to flatten when Mid-Town put its second batch of issues online). The traditional offenders are continuing to do well: Spderverse keys (Carnage, Silk and Gwen); Batman kets (e.g., Tec 880; Batman: Damned; etc.); and the cosmic ghost rider's 1st apperane in Thanos No. 13 are leadng the pack. God Country is continuing to sell well, but this book has received some pushback by the speculator market who is leary of the viability of this title as an actual major motion picture. Cover A sells better than cover B and there are a couple noteworthy variants (a regular Blind Box variant and sketch blind box variant). I'm sure there's more interesting stuff ...
  12. That's a trash youtube channel anyway. It makes sense that they would be sponsored by PGX. They have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. No informative, not entertaining. I enjoy ComicTom101 and the guys from CBSI / Unpressable Defects. Note that anyone who is knowledgable about the industry may have selective complaints here and there about CGC or CBCS, but that they all concur on one point - CGC is the gold standard and PGX is trash.
  13. I think you are looking at 7.0 to 7.5 not an 8.0. Here's a link to an 8.0 that you can compare it to cover to cover: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HOUSE-OF-SECRETS-92-CGC-Graded-8-0-Like-PGX-Old-Label-Book-Looks-GREAT-/253798900429?hash=item3b1797e2cd%3Ag%3AbDYAAOSw~K5bZzuR&LH_Auction=1&nma=true&si=J52jjFFfxtKziWyPAvtxgcxwdlc%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Seller had a wicked sense of humor in eBay listing.
  14. Another big week for TV/Film announcements! It appears that the Darkness, Thief of Thieves, Nailbiter and Think Tank are all getting TV deals. Apparently, Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment is working with Sony Television sa Skybound Galactic and they will develop television projects based on Skybound comic books as well as properties from other Image imprints, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Newsarama and others. I am hopeful that Thief of Thieves and Think Tank make it to the finish line as I think both of these properties translate well to the small screen as serialized shows. I look for there to be a lot of interest in the Comicspro Thief of Thieves 1 and the variant cover to Think Tank 1. I suspect that Witchblade #10 is the book to grab for the Darkness (it's Darkness 0) and there is a DF variant, a gold variant and perhaps a very limited master edition (but someone with more knowledge than me is going to have to provide details there). The big screen news is all Donnie Cates. God Country is getting made into a major motion picture! I suspect that the Image Blind Box variants (particularly that b/w sketch cover) will be the big books there. It's been a heck of a week for variant covers. Last week everyone was going crazy about Deadpool GPK, Deathstroke's rogues gallery, and Wonder Woman's witching hour variants were apparently underordered by many shops. This week it appears that no one underordered the Artgerm Catwoman cover which may be the most beautiful cover I've seen period. Sales have also been strong on Supregirl (Artgerm), What If Spider-man, black costume, punisher, Red Hood (variant) and Suicide Squad (variant). The Venom AMC book has a going rate of $10.00 shipped from a ton of sellers on eBay. Cursed comics cavalcade was selling for more than the hefty $9.99 cover price at one point, but I haven't looked at it in a minute. Cates also announced the line up to his new Guardians of the Galaxy roster as Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Nova, Ghost Rider, and Moondragon (who first appears as Madame MacEvil way back in Iron Man 54). There's someone else too but I can't remember them off the top of my head. There was also an unannounced Venom 7 variant that is selling for $20 or so that has Venom sticking his tongue out on the cover. I'm sure there's more stuff (e.g., speculation about Kraven's Last Hunt, alleged leaked set photos from Avengers, Batwoman, etc.), but I don't necessarily find any of that stuff too interesting. Thoughts?
  15. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/batwoman/first-look-at-ruby-rose-suited-up-as-the-cws-batwoman-has-leaked-online-and-its-seriously-amazing-a164012 Batwoman photo "leaks" ... should have subbed her keys a long time ago. I think sometimes I don't slab books because I know it will force me to keep them longer that way.
  16. Honestly, I'm nervous about the chipping and how it will effect the grade and apparently too big of a chicken to know the answer.
  17. I didn't bring a bag and board with me and probably have butter on my copy , but I have a line on a stack of them so we'll see ... it's going to be interesting to see where this goes. The guy who had sold thirty copies last night was closing in on 70 this morning. I checked after my post.
  18. The movie was better than good. I loved it (and I'm not a big spidey guy). That being said, I may appologize for comic related media simply because I champion comic books, but I thought it was enjoyable and had a really cool vibe. The internal monologue between Eddie and the symbiote was the best part of the film. I'm one of those people who believes you can't trust the opinions of professional movie critics to the extent that they are professionals at being critical. Some of you should remember a slew of films that were villanized by the critics who later changed their tune because of audience reception (Pulp Fiction being my favorite example because it's one of my favorite films). I think it's absurd for people to complain that the movie lacked depth - it's Venom not Citizen Kane. The movie is a win for Sony and a win for people who love comics. What is going to be really interesting for me is what happens to the AMC Venom variants. I have no idea what the print run is on those books, but I'm confident that the vast majority of them are going to have butter stains at a minimum and that very few of the comic collectors in attendance brought a bag and a board to the movie. I said it when I first heard about them - I can already see the Tom Hardy SS in my personal collection. They seem to be selling around $10 a pop on eBay (as I shopped I saw one guy who had sold 30 copies). I really wonder what the listed books look like. Where they giving them out at NYCC this weekend? I am looking forward to seeing what the census says about high grade copies because even with the proliferation of modern pressing practices, I doubt that many of them still exist. I am really looking forward to the announcement of the sequel and like yourself confident that Morbius is next!! Time to sub my ASM 101.
  19. I'm not so sure that Sweet Tooth is actually a thing. It appears that what was reported may have been a mistake and that a horror movie by the same name is actually what Universal is working on. I've been slammed at work so I haven't actually looked that hard. I frankly don't understand the fascination with Warrior Nun but it probably taps into all the catholic school girl, repressed fantasies of some substantial section of comics market. I was shocked that it had its own toy line. I'm still kind of shocked. As far as Cap goes, no matter how beloved he is by movie goers, comic collectors have always gravitated to the old old stuff. Personally, I think the Winter Soldier storyline is way cooler than the secondary market does. I sort of imagined that it would have been embraced and sought after in the same way alot of the movie related marvel stuff has been. Depending on how the MCU unfolds, there's all kinds of possibilities for books to catch fire.
  20. Don't worry in 2025 it will be hair, blood and stool. By 2030 they'll just force us all to have neck tatoos with out net earnings, class and rank.
