  1. Amazing Spider-Man 101 CGC 7.5 1st Appearance of Morbius The Living Vampire https://www.ebay.com/itm/223369154462
  2. If/when CGC puts "women in refridgerator," "comicsgate" or something to that effect on the label - that book suddently becomes collectable. Time will tell, but I think this issue is important in much the same way the bludgening of Jason Todd to death is, or Batman: Damned #1 is important to comic history. If collectors are anything they are archievests and this is why we are seeing all the excitement about Walmart Superman #7. Collecting comics is really about preserving and sharing popular culture, art and stories. I believe that these events are going to be increasingly important to collectors as the years turn into decades, but only time will tell.
  3. But I want the 1:100 Miles Morehamous cover damnit!
  4. It's the subject of essays, maybe a book or two and a new TV series on Hulu or Amazon. I don't remember. It's one of the major references for all of the identity politics comicsgate stuff. It's worth a google search, but not something I've spent any considerable amount of time reading about. Gail Simone wrote about it and has become the face of "women in refrigerators" as a rallying cry for gender politics and comics. It's interesting to me personally because it is something I remember being asked about in college by someone who knew that I loved comics. I remember a girl I "dated" in undergrad back in the day had a women's studies professor.who talked about it in class and she wanted me to talk to her about it. I think there may have been an academic journal article or two written about it 15 years ago. My point is that while that regular cover is as common as any book from that era, the DCU variants are super rare in high grade. I think the regular cover should be a $20 book not a $2 book, and the DCU variant should be a $200 book not a $20 book, and the market will self correct that at some point. Notice all of the discussion about the issue here. It's an important part of comic history no matter whether you think it was an example of systemic violence perpetrated against women by the comics industry and indicative or a pattern of male misogyny or a historical example of self proclaimed feminists being a victim by choice to advance an unhealthy personal political agenda. My two cents.
  5. That's a legit undervalued book in my humble opinion. There's a sweet UPC variant too that I think was sold in 3 packs at Toys R Us exclusively that is important. I think that this is the kind of stuff that people are going to want (much like pre-code horror) in the future.
  6. Legit, I knew who it was before I clicked on the link simply by reading the description (highlights/lowlights) of what was said. If you want a real good laugh, I will find the link to the podcast where he channels his inner Tony Robbins and gives this wishy washy self help advice for comic collectors. "If you want an AF15 all you have to do is believe that you will have an AF15 and you will get an AF15." It's hilarious! I had people calling me and texting me telling me about it when he live streamed it. I'm not a listener. FYI:: this guy has some kind of endorcement deal with PGX where he gets a couple books graded for free each month. I'm shocked by the number of viewers he has. It literally pains me that he is well received within certain circles in our community.
  7. It's been a slower week for comics The Harley Quinn 57 Tedesco B cover is the big winner this week with sales over $20. Demand is still strong for tihs book. Next week's B covers on Catwoman (Ben Oliver) and Wonder Woman look like strong choices and pre-sales are moving out the doors quick on eBay and elsewhere with prices hovering in the $30 range. I think calling it the next BatGirl 23 may do a disservice to that title which is a $150 CGC 9.8 , but only time will tell. I think much of the comic collecting world is still in shock over the 13k+ sale of ASM 667 Dell'Otto variant CGC 9.4. Many of my friends have been playing the "what comic would you buy if you sold this book for 13k+ game. I am not real clear what is happening to price tag on the work of Francesco Mattina https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/01/10/separated-at-birth-francesco-mattina/ in the wake of renewed criticism surrounding his work by artists and collectors. I welcome hearing hearing opinions and speculation regarding the same, but have not undertaken a real substantive analysis but find this topic fascinating. Rumores have circled around the introduction of the Black Knigh (Witman) in Avengers End Game with sales of his 1st appearance and on ratio variants high. This rumor follows a rumor several months ago about Guy Ritchie directing/casting a Captain Brittain film that would feature Black Knight in it. It seems that there has been some confirmation regarding the Elementals angle (Hydroman, Moltenman, etc.) in the forthcoming Spider-Man Far from Home movie which has driven sales on relevant books. A news alerts on the KeyCollector app suggesting that Kid Loki was going to be the subject of a Tom Hiddleston narrated format to the Marvel Streatming TV show sent copies of his firat appearnace and the Tron !:10 variant flying off eBay at elevated prices. The keycollector app has become increasingly controversial as many maintain that it does not report news or trends, but rather creates news and trends with its keyalert system to the extent that after a key alert mentions a particular comic the books get hot, sell and prices rise only to soon fall back to the sales figures before the alert. There is an insightful interview of the KeyCollector app owner/creator on youtube on last wednesday's unpressable defects show for those who may be interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYEjctA3zyQ Jessica Cruz 1st appearnces have received some heat thanks to the voice casting decisions made regarding the upcoming animated Justice League v. the Fatal Five which centers around her character. Prices continue to climb on Into the Spiderverse keys (e.g., Edge of Spiderverse 2, Ultimate Fallout 4 and related variants) as well as the potential forthcoming starts Silk and Spider-Woman (Jessica Drews). In other movie related news, it's been reported that TMNT is being rebooted with filming to start as early as the end of this year. I am a Turtles homer so this makes me excited even though I liked the last movie and I'm a little nervous, I'm anxious to see what they do with the franchise. In Donny Cates news (because there is always Cates news), he has indicaed a desire to work on a Machine Man comic which sent his first appearance in 2001 a Space Odyssey flying off the shelf. He later talked about some interest in writing Dracula, Blade and/or Moon Night for Marvel. In a conversation with fans on twitter he asked for suggestions about Moon Night arcs to read indicaitng that many fans had expressed interest in him writing the character. He was also asked about him working on Blade and responded that if you knew him personally you would know that he will ultimately write Dracula for Marvel (must be a bucket list character for him). Personally I really enjoy all of those titles and would be happy to see Cates on any one or all three of them in the future. That's about all I can think of that's been interesting to me personally in the world of comic news that's driving prices/demand. Happy hunting you bunch of savages!
  8. Only the LCS may sell this book at a premium? Customers are engaged in “dirty” flipping 😂 I hope you are being sarcastic! I find it silly how people think “certain people” are less than others because they flip comics rather than hoard them or collect differently or maintain that only a LCS may “flip” comics (that is what retailers do if they want to stay open and succeed, otherwise they are basically a diamond customer distribution center masquerading as a comic shop). Personally, I think it’s trash to tax books on the day they are released, but I get how a LCS that is operating as basically a diamond distributor could need to suck every dollar they can out of their customers. There’s no real profit in being a quasi diamond franchisee without the traditional protections of a franchisor/franchisee agreement. I think that is where many LCS go wrong and then they need to try and make extra money on books the day they are released. It’s sad, but I think we are going to see more and more chains of comic shops that know how to make money selling comics and less and less stores that don’t cater to flippers and speculators.
  9. I have started telling people things like "you remember that movie a History of Violence? .[dramatic pause] Yeah, that was a comic book first." Because it makes sense that something like Men In Black was a comic book before it was a movie, but it's counter intuitive for people who aren't comic collectors to even imagine that properties like Frank Miller's 300 were comics before they were films. I'm really grateful to live in a time when there are going to be so many more comics that turn into TV/Film properties. I think that Hollywood has realized that comics are the greatest focus group imaginable and a wealth of untapped creativity, but it's taken the better part of a century for Hollywood to get that. Who knows how long it may take the rest of the population?
  10. I'm afraid Chew is going to end up like the Goon and never get made. When that book came out (those first 20 issues or so) it was amazing. I don't know if it ever makes it to TV or the big screen, but it will always have a soft spot in my heart. Same deal with Cowboy, Ninja, Viking which I think would be a cult classic film that may win an academy award and/or bomb at the box office so bad that it ruins careers (actors, directors, producers alike). I also have a soft spot for origin stories (remember when they were a big deal) and big events (death of Jason Todd or Gwen Stacey, the proposal/wedding of superman, etc.) again I think this kind of stuff probably has speculative value in the long term but I think it's going to be a slow steady climb like Chew when most people are looking for the potential for explosive gains. Personally, I long for a time when story and art drove investment, but we are in an era where many comics don't get opened for fear of causing micro imperfections and people have turned to collecting comic cover art. That hurts my heart, but I think the way out is to talk abont stories we love. I don't know that there's a lot of upside to speculating on or investing in titles like Fear Agent or Hack and Slash, but I enjoy those books and I'm still buying them and selling them.
  11. When I think about comic "news" I think it's sometimes more analagous to shoddy investment tips than hard news and some times altogether fake news. I try and think about this stuff it in terms of how I consume current events, politics and other news. Some people are going to watch Fox news all day. They love Fox (CBSI) news and they think MSNBC (comicbookwars), CNN (Springman), CNBC (CBMT), etc. is trash. Others will stick with CSPAN (the CGC Boards), others try and consume stuff from a variety of news sources while others are fine with USA Today (Newsarama). The truth is that every news source gets it wrong sometimes, someone always gets the big story first which means that most of the time other news sources are late reporting. People have the ability to consume comic news however they want and they have and will exercise that choice. The reality is that there are some Wall Street investors that hire brokers (e.g., they trust their LCS owner that they have a long term relationship with) to make them both money. Others watch Jim Kramer on CNBC, other people read books by Warren Buffet, etc. Some comic spec/investment websites are more analogous to Mad Money others more analogous to Berkshire Hathaway. The difference is that we are self policing. There are no shareholder derivative suits, no securities fraud laws, no real authority or regulations. I tbelieve that means that more experienced collectors have a duty to contribute to the common welfare of our hobby, to share their wisdom, to acurately report information that is trustworthy. I think we all know that intuitively and most of us do that to some extent here and elsewhere. I'm not here to defend fake news, scammers or charletons, I am here to encourage us to do more individually to promote the long term health of the industry. If you don't like the way certain websites are doing things, do it better. Be the change you want to see in the comic community. That's not a radical idea, but it can be a revolutionary idea if we allow it to be. I think it's beautiful that people are so passionate about this hobby that they want to fight for it, defend it from things that they believe are damaging it and stick up for newcomers and the hoby in general. Ultimately, I believe what is best for the industry is refraining from self-rightousness in reference to the various google plus groups, websites, mewe groups, etc. and focusing on how we can individually and collectively contribute to the health of the hobby, improve the quality of the conversation, the viability of the speculation, the verasity of the reporting, etc. rather than labeling all third party "news/spec,/investment" websites as garbage.
  12. Many collectors have a bad tast in their mouth for one reason or another about the various google plus groups, speculation websites, etc. It is improper to paint with a broad brush. I hope that is obvious. Moreover, these sites have generally done a good job of encouraging enthusiasm for collecting. Does that mean that they haven't made mistakes? Of course not. Does that mean that any number of people associated with these sites don't have selfish motives (consciously or subconsciously)? Of course not. Does that mean that some aren't better than others? Again, I think we all know the answer to that. It is naive to suggest that those with integrity do not participate in speculation websites or frown upon them. That's the same as saying "I don't vote in elections because politics is corrupt." I think it was Stan Lee who suggested that we should "be the change you want to see in the world!" If you think there is a general lack of integrity on speculation websites, start a speculation website with integrity. Don't be a Sunday Morning Quarterback throwoing stones at others suggesting that they lack integrity. Our participation in the CGC boards is the same thing as any one of these websites and it was really these boards (this thread in particular) that galvanized modern speculation into what it is today. Ok maybe it was Ghandi and not Stan Lee, but you get my point.
  13. Thinks a couple of the board members may be a tiny bit jealous they don't have their own speculation website(s).
  14. It's more of a protype of Earl Tubbs to be precise but it's still a valuable find and an important book to Southern Bastards fans now regarless.
  15. This thread can be about whatever you want it to be about and I'm just excited that someone is happy about a purchase! Don't get me wrong, I can't say that I'm necessarily out here buying Southern Bastards con variants, but I buy some crazy (e.g., recently purchased a couple raw Cowboy Ninja Viking No. 1's, a bunch of raw Warrior magazines, a lot of early raw Chew books, etc.). I do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt in written conversations especially. I assume ygogolak was concerned that you were an uninformed buyer who was under some misimpression about the future of the Southern Bastards FX show and was concerned that you had been misinformed. I hope that book takes off. I legit just threw a bunch of Southern Bastards issues in my two dollar box in the last 60 days or so. It seems that the series has really cooled off, but everyone has a different perspective. That's one of many things that makes comics and speculation awesome. Thank you for sharing.
  16. Regarding Immortal Hulk - I certainly don't want to encourage debate about whether an incarnation of a character is adequately unique to constitute a 1st appearanec but whatever the heck it is Immortal Hulk starts in 682 (in my opinion) and/or 684 (in some other people's opinion). https://screenrant.com/marvel-reveals-immortal-hulk/ Thanks for the edit on Albuquerque. Too much recitation at once and I mess up numbers, names and make typos galore. There was also a noteworthy sale of Batman 880 CGC 9.8 but it brought out other copies of the book at lower numbers promptly which did not sell so I don't necessarily know how noteworthy that is in the long run. That book is a monster and moves with haste whenever there is a motivated seller. I subbed a 9.8 earlier this year and gave someone a real good price on the book which sold literally with in a week of me receiving my shipment from CGC. The other books I did not discuss were the Galactus ASM variant and the Angela Thor variants both of which were Stan Lee banner variants. I think these two books will standout and may have some longer term appeal for collectors. Sales of both were strong. The Angela Thor cover was available in limited supply based upon orders of a prior months book (the details of which escape me but I'm confident are available after a quick google search). I don't recall if the Galactus book was limited in the same way, but I think both books were under ordered by many retailers.
  17. It's Christmas time and if you ask me it is a buyers market. There has been alot of heat surrounding the Into the Spiderverse movie. While box office numbers have been less than some anticipated, the sales of the books are through the roof with sales of Miles and Gwen leading the pack. There has been less heat on properties like Spiderman Noir, Penni and Peter Porker. Prices have been rising on both Gwen and Miles 1st appearnces which is telling about the future of the spiderverse. News of an Into the Spiderverse sequel has sparked renewed interest in the romance covers of Gwen and Miles. News spinoff films has also driven sales of books like Spidergirls (particularly the variant cover of no. 1), Silk's 1st appearance and Jessica Drews first appearance in Bronze Age Key MS32. Hellboy's trailer has caused massive interest in his properties with copies of SDCC 2 continuing to sell well in high grade, his b/w first appearnce in the Italian book Dime Press No. 4 dried up in high grade a long time ago, Next Men 21 continues to sell well and the Hellboy: the Fury 3 virgin variant sale on December 21 has shocked many who were unaware of its potency (including me). The strength of the Titans DC Streaming show has restored confidence in the spec value of DC Comics Presents 26 which is high off the appearance of Cyborg in the Doom Patrol commercial. This book is the first appearnce of Raven, Cyborg and Starfire as most if not all of you are aware. I am suprised by the stregth of this book and often wonder about its print runs because I see it almost as often as I used to see copies of NM98. Donny Cates tweeted yesterday that he wants to write Machine Man which has spawned sales of 2001 A Space Odyssey No. 8 and Machanie Man No. 1. This property is a Kirby classic that appeals to horror and sci-fi fans alike and has been perenially undervalued in my opinion. Good luck finding raw copies of 2001 A Space Odyssey No. 8 in high grade. News of a Zatanna film from DC has sparked renewed interest in her books. The Adam Hughes books always sell well, but don't forget about DC Super-Stars No. 11. It's next to impossible to get in high grade with a black cover. There is continued interest in the Immortal Hulk book. Sales are strong on the title and Alex Ross is selling autographed copies of issue number 2 on his website. Look for Avengers 682 and 284 to take off when collectors move away from speculating on his ongoing series and start hoarding his first appearances. There is a 1:25 variant of 682 that is undervalued and a 2nd print of 682 that arguably has the best cover. I have no interest in the 682 mask/no-mask silliness, but others apparently do. The cover to 684 is awesome and it is unclear where the market will settle and/or when the market will settle on his first appearance. The Batman-Who-Laughs and the Grim-Knight are selling well. I enjoyed the BWL No.1 as a read and copies of Titans 12 are moving at all time high prices. I sold all my copies on eBay. There has been some interest in some of the store variants for Metal 2 and 3 with the Matina covers as well. Rags creators continue to infuriate the collector and speculator market. I belabor the point but I left the patreon a long time ago and it appears that many are outraged by the creator(s) decisions regarding this title. I gifted every copy of this book away for Christmas and will not be returning to the title. I do wish the creators healing and serenity as they appear to be struggling. The Aquaman movie is a box office hit. Sales of Aquaman comics are strong with the Trench run and Middleton variants leading the way. Black Manta and Mera's first apperance have been selling well for a long time and I imagine sales of the Ocean Master's first appearance will pick up steam if they haven't already. This movie was enjoyable for those who were gun shy about watching another DC movie bomb at the box office. I think it's worth your time. Copies of the Black Hammer: Age of Doom RRP have disappered ffom eBay and have not returned. This book was also limited to 500 copies but enjoys a Bill Sienkiewicz cover that I love. There was some heat on issue no. 8 which is the first apperance of Sherlock Frankenstein as well. Thanos 13 is still king of the modern Marvel mountain with Cosmic Ghostrider staring in another title due out in March or so. The previews have him interacting with much of the marvel universe and somehow manipulaitng continuity and/or chanding origin stories. These books continue to sell well. Again, the Albuquerque variant remains the top book as it is a nightmare to sub a 9.8 because of the ease at which it gets color rubs. As always, I'm sure there was alot more that was news worthy and/or note worthy that I am forgetting, but I should get a pass since it is the holidays. Happy hunting you bunch of savages!
  18. Spider-Man Noir 1 CGC 9.8 - no reserve auction starts this evening at a penny and ends on Sunday https://www.ebay.com/itm/223300521759 Check out my other items here: https://www.ebay.com/usr/coinschamp?_trksid=p2047675.l2559
  19. It's the best book marvel publishes that isn't written by Cates. I think it has lasting appeal and that the character is going to stick around because (1) people like the idea of a Hulk horror comic generally and (2) skilled writers are going to be eager to undertake writing this incarnation of the Hulk. In an era where Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales get their own blockbuster animated major motion picture and DC is embracing the idea that multiple incarnations and interpretations of its characters beginning with the Joker, there is a future for the Immortal Hulk. Great book. I also believe we will see speculators snag up every cheap copy of his first appearance on eBay over the Winter and drive up the prices on his books.
  20. Why do you say that? I have a live auction for a CGC 9.8 copy up and I think I'm going to get my head kicked in on this auction. I thought there would be renewed interest in this book in light of all the heat on Snyder's BWL title, but I'm not seeing many recent sales for this book on eBay. Am I missing something (I do that a lot)? Please don't get me wrong, I love this book for my PC and will keep my PC copy for the long haul. The Black Mirror is one of my favorite Batman runs ever (Snyder is the Batman writer of our time and the Court of Owls will be a movie plot), and I think this book remains grossly undervalued by collectors. But, I don't think this book is heating up at all and I think I'm basically going to end up giving this book away in my auction.
  21. What some call memories others call childhood trauma. Legit, I remember being a kid on dial up boards thinking I was super stealthy downloading photos of naked celebs on a Commador 64. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
