It's not as rare as some of Balun's other comix, but definitely in the uncommon range.

Found this book in my ug boxes. Forgot about it. It is b/w and digest size. Couldn’t find it in the Fogel guide. Rare? Or just an unusual regional publication?

    Gangsters Can't Win #4, August-September 1948.
Grades about a G-VG with a spine roll but nothing missing and all attached.  White-off/white pages and moderate cover reflectivity.     Plenty of violence in 48 pages, with cars, machine guns, knives, pistols, a guy getting thrown off a building, and acid throwing as weapons. Only selling because I have two copies.  $55.00.   Underworld True Crime Stories #3, June-July, 1948.   This issue has perhaps the sickest, most violent story in all of pre-code crime  comics.  If you like axes buried into the heads of men and children, with plenty of blood, this is your meat.   Condition wise a G, with detached cover, upper 3" SS, and O/W pages.  Small P/O of upper and lower right FC corners, and lower left corner.  $25.00.

Darwination reacted to Dick Pontoon in MAD MAX: FURIOSA starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth (2024)
Saw Furiosa on Sunday with the missus and 16 year old. Went to the local independent theater, paid $9 ticket. I'm not a fan of the big chains or the prices. The crowd was not huge at a 4:00 pm show, but it often isn't there.
We all liked it. None of us had problems with girl power or how it compared to other Max movies. I'm not surprised Hideo Kojima had favorable comments, George Miller is one of the best action directors around. You always know what's going on, as opposed to getting a flurry of confusing split second cuts that leave you wondering. Somewhere in the last 20-30 minutes my son and I thought it was getting a bit long but that was a brief blip. 3 thumbs up from The Pontoons.

Anyone who had time and money on their hands and entered the market in 21/22 because they remembered comics fondly got burned pretty badly and likely exited. I don't have to track anything weekly to know that the obvious entry points for new collectors (ASM 300, NM 87, TOD 10, Wolverine 1, etc) have dropped like stones in the past two years. If I see 50%+ of value evaporate on anything I buy it's going to make me think twice about buying more, regardless of how much a "true collector" I am.
And why would the two dozen collectors of Patsy and Hedy or Homer the Happy Ghost be complaining about a price drop? The value of those books hasn't moved since the Nixon administration.

Let me elaborate, I have not paid a price for a comic book that I feel is far too high. The prices I have generally paid are "reasonable." Granted, I agree with you that a reasonable price is more often than not different for each of us.

Darwination reacted to Robot Man in Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
Collectors are like junkies. Always that need to get one more piece. Although prices have fluctuated, they will always need that rush.
I think that a lot of folks are just spending their money a lot more carefully now.
At one time, I spent like a drunken sailor. Now, I buy a lot less but do it a lot more carefully.

I agree. The “thrill of the hunt” has always been the best part of collecting. Just bumping into that nice score out in the wild. This is pretty much over now. Most of those old houses and buildings have been cleaned out now. And a lot more competition. I still go out and find something cool every once in a while but the “good ole days” are pretty much in the past.
When I look at things in my collection, I often remember where I got it and what a great deal I got. Always brings back a pleasant memory.
I get very little satisfaction just sitting behind a keyboard and being the one who pays the most. The thrill of the hunt is actually much better than just aquiring an item and moving on to the next big auction.

I was pretty excited to get this in the mail recently.  It’s not in high-grade condition (it’s clear from the spine that it’s a read copy) but I got it for a reader copy and while not cheap was definitely less than copies in collectible condition.

Unlike his previous Tales of Terror volume, this one Karloff actually writes an introduction for each of the stories he selected for this volume (which is why there’s more demand for it) and based on the previous volume I’d say Karloff had pretty good taste in horror stories. Looking forward to digging into this one.
