Here's one more listing, from 1980, advertising the covers to #159, #161, and #163.  You could buy all three covers for less than the costs of a Swamp Thing panel page from the same advertisement:

As someone said earlier, it became more popular shortly after, when it was changing the X-Men title, but to ask how big it was in that small window in summer before X-Men 94 was out, you'd have to either be a fan already of that book, or be an adult that was already wise on hopping on new comics, which was not nearly as much a thing in 1975, even as it was just 4-5 years later, when the shops were opening and lots of baseball card places began stocking comics, and the in-shop discussions about them grew among normal customers.. this was when it became plain to all... and was moving... so, inside the industry it certainly was, but not so much in the public. The reaction times were a lot lazier. It would interesting to see how long it took Overstreet to rate that book over 50 dollars.  I was just a kid, but I was already buying comics. The comics I liked never went up like that one. Almost nobody read or bought comics in '75 unless they were kids or buying for kids, outside of a tiny minority of adults who would stuff their comics under the newspaper... the cashier would say, "how old is your son", if you checked it out by yourself...  But you know, I did even at that age buy #1's, unfortuntely they were Ragman and Starfire. Heck, I went to the movies and loved Star Wars, but didn't press my mother and say, I need Star Wars #1 !! It just wasn't like that. I eventually would get #10 off the rack, but I don't remember any of this being a bigger deal until the early '80s.

It'd be great if some of the Yakima owners here could put up some pics of the interior pages of Yakimas and non-Yakimas (preferably from the same time period so we're getting apples to apples) to show what the difference in paper quality is like.
I'm curious on people's thoughts on pulp PQ and whether "Cream" pages will become a collectability dividing line like it has become in comics or whether it's so prevalent that it will have to be acceptable for anyone who wants to own more than a tiny pulp collection.

Reposting this, it's a pair of early 40s amazing stories.  One of my unrelated submissions got white pages, and they are pretty, but scanning various pulp slabs I've only seen a few with white pages so it would be tough to aim for that imp.

For context, this was the X-Men issue on the racks before the new series began.  It's a reprint of X-Men #45, and my original copy bought at the time.  I think it helps explain why comic buyers and readers of the day may have overlooked ish 94:

GSX 1 and UXM 94 were no great shakes for a long time and didn't command higher prices until Byrne took over and the series' popularity really soared.  During the original Cockrum run, none of my fellow comic collectors in middle school thought much of the new X-Men.
But then Byrne took over, Wolverine suddenly became popular and everyone started getting into them.  That's when the prices of GSX 1 and UXM 94 started to skyrocket (relatively speaking).

I’d like to do a countdown of the Dennis run starting with the last 12 cent issue 102.  Feel free to discuss the comics, post your copy and talk all about Dennis.  I’m only missing a few issues with most of my 12 centers being pretty high grade with the 10 centers more mixed.

Given the dates of those covers is there any reason to think any of them don’t exist?   I’d be surprised if there was a single one that didn’t  exist.

Existence is typically only an issue for 1960s and prior

I was nine years old when GSXM1 and X-Men #94 came out. I wasn't buying regularly but somehow bought both off the stands. They struck me enough that I bought #95, 96, and #97 too. At that age, I definitely didn't know to buy multiple copies or even keep them in nice shape.
The next X-Men issues I remember buying were in the #111 to #115 range. I think by that time there was some buzz about GS #1 and X-Men #1.
I started collecting regularly when X-Men #128 was on the stands. And as mentioned before in this thread, the X-Men were definitely a big deal by then.

Ha, no, I didn't buy UXM94 off the spinner rack simply because it contained unknown characters, not the "real" X-Men!  I picked up the issue, in a Lawson's store IIRC, and after seeing a bunch of nobodies on the cover I put it back in disappointment.

I don't know if these are niches in the collectors market, but if not they should be.
Superheroes and/or their friends behaving like absolute d*cks.
Superheroes breaking bad.  Women scheming to trap the super guy into marriage.  Friends and sidekicks betraying the hero, even murdering him/her while they cackle with evil delight,
DC comics was the undisputed king of psychologically effed up comic covers in the 60s.  Every other issue seemed to have Superman laughing as he tortured Jimmy Olsen or Perry White.  Lois Lane tricking a very reluctant Superman into marriage;  And Superman triumphantly flaunting his rejection of her in the most hurtful ways. You have to wonder if the DC editors were seriously messed up, and/or were they trying to mess with the heads of pre-pubescent readers.

I'd love to own this book someday, and MIGHT be interested in purchasing it for the sold heritage auction price (for that particular copy).  The writing on that cover is really distracting for me

I’m the proud owner of this Detective #27. I purchased the book in 2003 and time to let it go!
I decided to go the auction house route because it’s difficult to price out for a potential private deal. I chose Comic Link because it was my go to when I was buying books in the day. I started auctioning off books there around 6 months or so. Nothing but professional service and fast payments after books sold!
CGC is accurate in their grading notes but it was hard to tell if the centrefold was married. The centrefold pages seem consistent with the page quality and sizing of the margins compared to the surrounding pages. The spine margins are slightly brittle but the rest of the interior pages are supple and off/white pages.
I took some photos of the interior pages before CGC slabbed the book
Here are the Batman pages from the book!

    Part 2 of the Ducks
The Donald Duck #3 Retail Incentive Cover is actually my favorite Donald Duck Cover.  Donald is my favorite cartoon character of all time, the Sword in the Stone is my favorite Disney Movie, and Disney World (I know that castle is from Disneyland but close enough) is one of my favorite places.  I also like the story it tells.  Donald of course would try to pull the Sword and fail with hilarious results, Huey would say hi to the crowd, Louie is the more mischievous of the three nephews so he's enjoying the spectacle and Dewey is the most intelligent of the bunch so he's stoked to see Merlin
It was a quest to get that one in a 9.8.  Finding the book raw was a challenge on its own (I think it was 1 in 10 copies), then I had to find a 9.8 candidate, CGC returned it as a 9.6, then found out about clean/pressing and the re-submission came back as a 9.8!
Also, is Ducktales #1 the first appearance of Launchpad?

Figured I'd show you all my Duck Collection (At least the Graded Books).  Going from oldest to most current.  Doing this because I've been thinking of trading my collection for a particular grail.  Its mostly Copper to Modern Keys (ASM #300, Batman #423, Batman Adventures #12) but hesitating because not sure I want to give up the Duck Books.  Some are really tough to find in a good grade.  That's what makes them unique treasures to me.

... I paid 20 bucks for an FF 5 in very high grade at the same show, wiped out my whole wad. I had to sneak it in the house, as I was afraid my hindparts would have been roasted for spending a month of paper route money on ONE comic. There was also displayed at that show, the first Action 1 that I ever saw in person. The guy was trying to match @Mmehdy record sale of a year or so prior, pricing it at 1800. It was still unsold at the end of the show. You could buy a brand new Ford Mustang for that kind of coin back then. A 10 spot would get snacks and a movie for 4 people with enough left for a large combo Italian Pizza after the show. GOD BLESS ...

Back to duck. I was surprised to see this pop up on eBay for less than I sold it on Heritage. It is, to my knowledge tied with one of its brothers for the highest grade given to a subscription variant.

    Here is the brother:

This run’s OO was in Oregon. But his books were dispersed by a dealer. You see them around. The WDC&S all have the OO name and address. There were also incredible Duck Four Colors - census topping.

I sold an incredible US 2 to Richard Olson b/c he told me it was his favorite book.  Anyone know what is happening to his collection?

My best pal, Timmy Leaf, showed me his take from the BX back in '75, and pulled out 2 copies of GSX 1, exclaiming that this Cochran guy was going to be the next Adams, and that I should grab a couple. I passed. Now, before we start thinking that Timmy was some Guru of the unwashed masses, I DID have to talk him into buying his AF 15 in VG @ $30 at a show in the 70's. That, unfortunately, was not enough to qualify me for Guru-dom, as I never got an AF 15, because, as the song says, "Tomorrow Never Comes." GOD BLESS ...
