And this is the final issue (but not the scarcest):

Iron Man never had a book of his own. It was published initally as a backup feature to Daredevil (starting with Devil #23), then the Daredevil title changed to reflect the incorporation of Iron Man and subsequently Ghost Rider. The italian Devils in the higher numbers are among the scarcest books to find in grade, bound to command a $30-40 each which is uncommon for the age range of the books. They surely had a lower print run than the italian Spidey, especially the last ones (series closed with #126). Iron Man and Daredevil eventually found their place on the pages of l’Uomo Ragno. Ghost was sporadically published here and there after the italian Devil closed, but remained mostly unpublished until they did a trade paperback in recent years (without much love, anyway). I know, and that is why I pointed this out: Captain Marvel covers were NEVER used in Italy on the outside cover (only in the inside pages, occasionally), I am 99% sure of that, as I have the full Fantastici Quattro series, and this is an odd exception as it happened with these remainders alone. Here’s a vintage Eternals sticker which I absolutely love…

To add randomness to randomness, the remaindered book cover says "Fantastici Quattro" (and indeed Captain Marvel was a backup feature of the FF) but the eBay seller shows that actually the book contains Uomo Ragno issues…

The colors are all messed up, but that’s how it went with these covers for the remaindered books: they probably did not wish to spend a single Lira and very likely the colorist worked almost for free… They are a really curious item, however, as many italian readers have fond childhood memories associated with some of them, but they are not trackable as most got either dismantled (to separate the books, which were already ruined by the binding anyway) or have been thrown away.

Just noticed this on eBay.it – most Captain Marvel covers were unused as the character was published as a backup feature, but here oddly they used the cover of Captain Marvel #26 for a remaindered edition collecting 3 issues (each one of those remaindered books collected different issues, so they are a mess to categorize). As promised to Elisa, the italian Spidey #2, my copy which is about a GD+. In this grade, it usually goes for 20-25 Euro or so.

In this case you mean in the case of the Philippine editions? That is because, for example, with italian editions you have a pretty different beast: the average Fantastic Four issue I read as a kid contained either a Fantastic Four or Marvel Two-in-One story, plus one or two additional backup features from other titles, as different as – say – Spider-Woman or Killraven. That is how I learned to love these characters, which would have not been possible if I was an american kid buying just a single title.

P.S. I am not talking of the Philippines books, as these, as much as they are reprints, can be considered a "variant", meaning they represent a publishing format variation, but still in english, for a foreign market. So, alternate english editions but still subsequent, foreign, editions.

Not to stray away from the discussion but… as far as proper foreign editions are concerned, why would you call them "variants"? The use of words reflect an understanding, I don’t know what do you mean by "semantics", but I always try to use the words in the most accurate way, even if some ambiguity is always inherent – but in this case "variant" does not mean anything: "variant" to what?

In this case, reprints or "variants" makes little difference as they are subsequent english editions for a foreign market. In this sense, they are halway between a proper foreign edition (translated in another language and usually published by a foreign publisher) and a reprint, or "local variant", like the UK pence copies. "Ugly" as they seem, they are fascinating…

Although I have always expressed my perplexities for the strong alterations brought by Miller to Daredevil, "Born Again" is a story which always attracted me more than the original run he also draw. Here’s #1 of the British magazine "The Daredevils", which represented Miller's DD in B/W but more importantly contains very important original stories of Captain Britain (and seems darn rare in grade: I am super-happy I got a full run that I keep showing it around…) :

Yes, definitely do not look at Tim’s collection if you are faint at heart… This one is one of the few I will keep. Very likely a NM (very hard to find here) and I love this issue (I have the original as well)…

No, I have to check but I think it’s another duplicate. If I already have it (I am keeping these italian Devils for now) this one will be for sale.

Yes, but I do not use the term "variant", as I have already explained several times, as these are – foremostly – foreign editions of a US originated comic series. They can be seen as "variants" but it is a misleading term. I will scan and post the italian #2 if you like, but I have to dig it out. It came out around 1970.
