  1. Hotflips wont mail me their free used comic boxes at their expense. This ruined my childs Xmas and they turned to hard drugs to cope with the disappointment.

Just lost a customer forever! I will never buy free stuff them again!!1!

This is pretty generous for those local and I hope someone takes advantage of it. Some of the full art short boxes have gotten pretty expensive at $20+ ea.

I have quite a few wizard and dynamic forces signed books with certificates of authentication; do I need to send in the COA's with the book and will they be returned?

    -thanks

NO! never send CGC anything in addition to the books you may want back.

JSA will independently verify the signature, a COA will not help in that determination.

  3. The problem with cutting prices is that CGC doesn't have any need too, they control the market.

CGC would rather have 10 people pay $100 and be exclusive, than 100 people pay $10 and be inclusive. The overall dichotomy of the situation is that making customers happy with a more approachable price point will anger investors who demand higher and higher year over year profit.

CGC does not care about your financial situation as there are thousands of people behind you throwing money at them.

I am sure one day the train will come off the rails, but that day isn't on the horizon yet.

  4. While it is fun to on new members who still trust CGC services, why not provide some explanation to help them?

As stated above Turn Around Time only starts when the books are received in the system by CGC, then said TAT is only measured in BUSINESS DAYS (Mon-Fri, minus Holidays or closures), IIRC TAT officially stops once your books is graded (you can see the grade). No shipping time is included.

There have been posts previously where members have called CS and had their Fast Track fee refunded due to extended wait times, though with CGC now that policy has likely been changed. If you believe your book is outside of the above described window, call back to CS, and have them explain it to you in terms both parties can understand.

  5. There has been a CGC 9.6 signed by Layton on ebay for a couple months now that hasn't sold for $140. You are very likely to be able to purchase this book in 9.6 (9.8 on a good day) for less than the total cost of submission, pressing, shipping, & JSA authentication. Though your personal attachment may vary.

I'm not sure I understand the question - are low post count users unable to see the current WTB forum? If so, you are considering making another section for them to be able to post in? Or just allowing them into the current forum?

Working from a faulty memory, you need 50 posts and the blessing of @CGC Mike under some iffy "rules" that are not actually rules but unofficial guidelines (this is probably from before his time as I remember having to make posts back in the day as well). The problem as I see it, is that the rules are not posted anywhere in addition to new members being able to see and post in the selling forums. This comes across to someone new as counter intuitive so they post in various subforums with WTB threads, only to get admonished for not following rules they don't know about. Even a savvy newb that finds the "THE NOOB GUIDE" will be greeted by dead links (seller guide) but no mention of a WTB forum.

For the record, I voted no. We don't need a new forum, we either need a clear set of posting rules or let new members post in the WTB forum and the community will police itself.

  7. I haven't done any business with Wizard World/Fan Expo in years but see Danny Elfman is on the Dallas roster. Does anyone have experience with getting inscriptions? I know WW would actively sit at the table with guests and police them so they only sign names and nothing else, is Fan Expo the same way?

Can I resubmit comics with a CGC Qualified green label for JSA autograph authentication?

Yes. Autographed comics with a CGC Qualified green label are eligible for CGC x JSA certification. Submit these books under an applicable grading tier and select “JSA Autograph Authentication” as an add-on service. JSA will determine if the autograph is genuine, and CGC will regrade and encapsulate the comic.

So if I submit a qualified label slab, the book will be regraded and I'll be charged a grading fee in addition to the authentication fee?

Yes, and you have the opportunity for a grade drop as well due to handling...

On the other hand, this is kind of annoying. Along with the 20% BP, Heritage also has a $29 minimum BP, which... I guess they argue allows them to include items with expected hammer prices under $150 in their auctions and still make a reasonable profit, but... ehhhh, I don't know. I hardly think HA is hurting financially, so this really just serves as a cautionary note that you should try very hard to buy anything < $150... somewhere else.

As long as you factor in the BP which I did with my obscenely low bid, as a buyer I did ok as it was still well under what I budgeted for. A seller on the other hand very likely made zero dollars on this transaction, where as if they sent it to comiclink it would have easily hit around $80+ (which is what ebay/mycomicshop had it listed around).

  10. You'll want to stay away from Heritage if your selling non-super key moderns. The cost is pretty outrageous for both buyer and seller, for reference I planned to buy a replacement copy of X-Men (1991) #54 and budgeted around $75 (around $100 for SS). Ebay had a couple for around that, Mycomicshop had a couple for $90, and comiclink didn't have any in the current auction (not counting shipping). I did find a SS copy for bid at Heritage and I put a $20 bid on it and won it for $16. Here are all the fee's after the fact:

This is absolutely awesome. Especially if you asked for "Psycho Valkyrie," because he nailed it.

I knew exactly what I was going to get, art wise when I asked for a remarq.

Last year when I spoke with Terry he was hesitant to do any smaller (non-sketched) remarqs due to being 71 (now 72!) and his "fine detail not being what it used to be". Don Perlin is in the same situation and has all but stopped any sketch/remarq years ago and he just hit 94.

This particular book isn't worth anything (except to me) so what I get on it is more of a beauty mark to make me happy than it would be of value to anyone else.

Though I would love to find Bruce Patterson, Jean Izzo (Simek), and Petra Scotese (Goldberg) to round the book out. Though even with some intensive searching I don't know if they are alive let alone interested in doing any type of signing as they seemed to have stopped working on comics in the 80's.

  12. CGC offering the "ART" or "SNG" designation for verified signatures/sketches instead of forcing them to be graded would solve most of the secondary market issues as well as helping turn around times.

More to the question the type of signature "should" trump the value of non-key books, but in practice the grade often heavily determines perceived value overall. I purchase a lot of signature series books and usually offer much less for non 9.6/9.8 signed moderns regardless of the signature. If you know that you have a rare signer lined up and use junk books it ends up reflecting in the selling price.
