Alright, Dopey Challenge results are in!  Let's see how it all shook out, using part of my page 4 post:

    Results-jimbo.jpg.67875267fe5d7eae92d4e16ed2d1a4c3.jpg

(I will post much more detail about the whole experience in my journal, hopefully sometime in the next few days.)

    Original goal times
    5k – 37:30  :headbang:

    10k – 1:15:00  :headbang:
Half – 2:30:00  (Scratched on account of Disney shortening the course to 7.1 miles)  :violin:
Full – 5:00:00  (tsk)  (as I noted in my journal, I'll use my unofficial time to eliminate recreation stops.  Strava has my unofficial time at 5:35:04)

Total allotted moving time that I've given myself is 9 hours, 22 minutes, and 30 seconds 6 hours, 52 minutes, 30 seconds (half marathon removed).

Here again is my original pledge, all proceeds to Jimbo, a friend of Jesus (thumbsu.

    - $2 per mile, which I’ll round up to a total of $100 when all miles are completed.
(even with the 1/2er cut short, still $100.  We calculated that we walked between 2-3 miles to and from the car per day.  Add park time on top of that, and we covered much more than 48.6 miles in 4 days)
    - $50 per time goal met
         ($100, 2 of 4 original goals met)
    - $100 if I come in under my total allotted moving time
($50.  Though I didn't beat my allotted time, I'm still adding $50 more because of how well the marathon went - good mood, no injuries, no cramps, and I still set a race day pr for the half marathon)

Ultimately I didn't hit the $400 max, but that's $250 to @jimjum12 as soon as possible.  :highfive:

@Beige - The modified official distance comes out to 42.6 miles, so take that into account however you'd like when settling up.

Was I the only one 'sponsoring' you?

Please let me know where to send payment as I haven't really been following due to work.

Episode 1: It can feel a little disjointed. It's just that first episode to catch the audience up on Hawkeye (2021) while connecting to Netflix's Daredevil (2015). So it can feel like it hobbles the story.

Episode 2: It's now flowing smoother to continue the story without excessive flashbacks. And she's coming into her powers more.

    I like it so far.

I must have missed this - what Powers?

Hey all again, I've got dozens of comics I'd love to be graded, and just need to confirm - Doses CGC ship they're graded comics to Australia?

Yes - but it's a terrible way to do it.

They use very expensive shipping, and the full amount is declared on the Customs invoice - plus shipping, so you get 10% GST on the WHOLE total.

IMHO - it would be much better for you to spend some time on here, build a relationship with a respectable USA presser and / or submitter, and use them as a middleman.

Obviously there are ways around GST - undervaluing is one that works, but it's 100% on you to absorb the loss if the slabs get lost or damaged at the reduced declared value. Not recommended, and illegal tbh.

The best is to build a relationship on here with some boardies who press and sub internationally - there are legal ways around GST if you use a person who is registered as a person who's services 'conserve' your comics.

It's up to you to make those relationships.

    Good luck!

Just as all my transgressions were researched thoroughly all over the internet and posted here, I'm sure people can find the stuff from last year when I reached out on the forum and paid people here back that wanted to be paid back. Kav, Sharon, Beige, Bird were amongst the people made whole. I also left things open that if anyone knew of someone that wanted a donation refund or had missed my initial outreach, they could contact me at any time to work something out. That remains the status of it all and something I'll continue to do moving forward.

Yes - Chip repaid in full plus something on top.

What would you change/like to see in reacher???

I think thats covered - look at the vid link.

    THAT'S Reacher - not some toe-to-toe brawler.

Get back to what made the books so popular - and for goodness sake - get Neagley a decent script!

I was kinda disappointed with these 3 episodes. Felt a bit blah and formulaic so far.  Also, I read all the books and found Bad Luck and Trouble to be one of the best reads, and also had the most in it for a TV adaptation.  But part of this was its setting in Hollywood CA... not in and around NYC.  It used many iconic LA locations.  I wonder why they switched it...   I enjoyed Season 1 (Killing Floor) more at this point, and even watched it a second time and it held up.  Oh well, lets see how it goes from here on out.

    Agreed.

I have no idea why Lee Childs greenlit this season.

Neagley is reduced to a simpering sidekick - I have no idea why they did this - Neagley in print was a master detective, with combat skills matching Reacher. I don't recognise her in season 2 at all, and thats a shame.

Dixon - who was the financial MP in the 1/10 books now gets headbutted , gets up, gets hit again, and beats hired muscle?

And Reacher.... Reacher NEVER got into it with someone. He struck first, struck hard and that was that. The scenes of him going toe to toe with street goons is absolutely laughable to anyone who has read Childs books.

    THIS is Reacher!

Why are all the 1/10 guys now officers?

They were mostly all Sergeants - "The Sgt network" was a trope used in all Reacher flashback books.

I agree with @Aman619 - this is so poor compared to the book -  Bad Luck and Trouble is a great read, but is absolutely ripped to pieces and remade in this season - and not for the better.

For me, this is another "Expanse" - Careys masterpiece.

If you read the books, the shows are so inferior  that's it's a painful watch (I can't watch so I turned off after cringing at Neagley's dialog) but if you haven't, it's an OK show.

It's a shame as Ritchson is physically spot on - but he's been completely reduced in Season 2 and is now, just another 'ex-cop' not the character bought to life in over 20 worldwide smash hit books.

Again - why Lee Childs signed off on these changes is a mystery. He certainly doesn't need the money.

  7. FWIW - Chip reached out 18 months ago without preamble and made me 'whole' after a less than stellar deal a few years back.

I didn't comment publicly, nor was I encouraged to by Chip.

As a couple of you know, my wife has been fighting the good fight against 4 bouts of cancer.

She has the type that will never go away from the multiple parts of her body ravaged by it.

She also had a moderate stroke 14 years back as a result of chemotherapeutic agents going awry.

I mentioned in a post that she was unwell again, and to my surprise, Chip reached out with kind words. I thanked him and that was that.

Can people change - I guess so, but as others have said, Chip has probably the worst history of scams and dodgy deals going back over a decade.

    That can't be ignored.

Chip would need to be posting regularly for at least 6 months to rebuild relationships, posting about comics, not a monotonous regurgitation of 'mea culpa' in every post, but of value to the boards before he is allowed to sell or buy on here again.

If he shows a history of completed transactions without fault over the next 12 months, then I would consider a vote.

18 months sounds a long time - but Chip robbed an awful lot of people over a long period of time.

He certainly seems a different person.

Lets see if he still is in 18 months.

  8. You won't do well buying 'lots' from sellers who deal mostly with comics.

They tend to know the current value.

I look for random sellers with poor pics who have just found them in a yard sale or pops old shed and want to make a quick $$$ or three.

Off the top of my head - two awful pics of rolled up and scruffy drek comics - but in the back row - Phantom issues #70 + #95 (IIRC) - bought the lot for $50, and sold the 2 Phantoms for over $800.

Always look at the pics - but of course, you need history in this caper to identify comics with just an inch or two showing.

Most people are too lazy to put the time in - that's your advantage right there.

Learn, and you'll spot a key in a crowd of drek and make a buck or two.

I live close to this situation, and I would be happy to go down there at my own expense and try to resolve this, by which I mean figure out if the books are still there and if the owners can be identified.  If they are and can, I'd start packing and shipping them at my expense and hope to be reimbursed by the owners.  It goes without saying that I don't want Covid and would greatly prefer to have backup.

I think there's probably only a small chance anyone's books are recoverable.  It's not hard to imagine a person who is desperate enough would cash in.

If you are close - why not visit the local Police and show them this thread?

I'm sure the aggrieved parties would send you book details and their contact info prior to a visit to the station.

I have no reason to doubt @Sauce Dog  above - but that's an absurd take on things by the Police Department.

Go visit the Police Station and see how you go - if they can spare an officer, and you have the info about which books are there, then Mike would probably be grateful your were dealing with this.

Sorry guys - I'm still having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that even though there is documented info proving $100,000+ worth of cash / comics sitting with this guy - and you have written proof he won't send them back - that the Police will refuse to help.

I can't think of any other Western nation where this would be deemed acceptable.

    What a joke.

No, that is not their job. The police are not going to investigate this if you just walk in and tell em some mean man isn't giving you back your funny books. This has to go through actual legal channels to get any sort of traction, a process that can be very expensive and time consuming (hence why one-off individuals who are wronged often cannot do anything meaningful about it). Cops won't even investigate if you tell them exactly where your stolen car is currently located (seriously...it is a very sad common occurrence at this point both in the USA and Canada).

    Wow.

That is awful. I actually think our Police here are OK - they certainly would make a visit if I was to make a complaint such as this.

I had no idea your Police were so.......I dunno what word to use tbh. Non-active, as opposed to pro-active.

So if you saw a cop car outside of Hero - and told them he had stolen your books, and you could prove they were yours - they wouldn't even get out of the car?

    That's absurd.

Not even if you make a written statement accusing Hero's of theft, with proof of purchase and delivery to Hero's and they won't do anything even then?

    Seriously?

    That's insane.

Sure you can go in and make a complaint there, but let's be honest...it isn't going to amount to much other then a paper in a file until someone with means/status comes along to complain or take legal action they can afford to bankroll themselves.

The guy above sent him $11,000 and 15 valuable books.

That's not enough to get a cop to visit Hero's address?

    That's absolutely bloody ridiculous.

I sent Mike 15 books in April 2021 and 11 grand for restoration. Once I found out how behind he was 5 years I asked for books and money to be returned. He said no problem. Still waiting a year and a half. Nothing but a thief and always will be. He knows nothing about running a business.

So you did nothing about this?

No wonder this guy gets away with this - all I see is person after person complaining they have had their books and money stolen, and passively accepting it.

It's been going on for a decade!

Is there nobody affected by this who lives nearby who can obtain a warrant for return of goods (The Sheriffs dept do this in Australia so apologies for not knowing how you guys do this) then contact the local Police Department for assistance to serve it,and collect the books?

If he has the books, why does his health matter? You are collecting books, not stabbing him in the face.

I don't believe for one second if someone walked into a Police Station and said 'A guy has my books and $$ totalling $25,000 and he lives here - can you help me get it back" - and they will do nothing?

And when multiple people in multiple Police Stations do the same - and it all ends up at the local (to Heros') Police Station - they will do nothing??

Is that what you are all saying?

Bloody hell, just on this thread alone there are hundreds of thousands of $$$ worth of books and cash, and y'all letting it slide because he is 'sick'.

    Screw this guy.

Use the Police - it's their job isn't it?
