  1. Sometimes I don't! The website I use in Melbourne has a contact email or phone number, so I generally contact them first to save a trip. Some people do, but hadn't thought to sell them, as they were their kids who had gone to Uni, or just laid forgotten in the spare room. I run at least 4 'wanted to buy' ads all the time - most stuff comes from there - the last one I referred to was via that way. I ask everyone I meet! That sometimes works Lastly, if I'm bored I'll troll through ebay - there's always a 'huge lot' sale that has the corner of a decent book sticking out. I'm looking at one ending this weekend. Also mis-spelling is another on ebay - Vampirella is a common mistake. On a day out searching (and you have to remember that Australia has a tiny fraction of the comics for sale that USA does) - I'll plan a route between charity shops, that take in as many garage sales as possible (sometimes there are only 1 or 2) and stop at any sale or charity shop I see that is open. It's just hard work - the harder you work, the luckier you get. I guess you need the desire to go again after a complete failure of a day to eventually find stuff. It's out there, it's just harder to find now. This was in a local auction last night I didn't go as the auction house isn't known for high value stuff - there is no way this would not be getting graded if there wasn't something off about it. The tears were described as 'chipping', there is obvious water damage, and no staple pics, despite obvious rust migration at top staple. But I wouldn't have known it was there without signing up for newsletter emails etc etc Put the yards in and the results will come!
  2. Not that I know of. I do find it hard to equate the zeal shown by a couple of posters to NOT having a vested interest in the companies performance. Regardless - it's blatant promotion of a business. The 'informative' stage of fractional ownership was covered many threads and many posts ago. I have nothing against the 2 main protagonists, but it just seems to be used as a stick to bait others with now. I'm not a fan of censoring things completely, but I am a believer that things should be in the appropriate place - which is the dealer section, as lets face it, all Rally Rd do, is buy and sell.
  3. Maybe put the card sales forum in there? It would be a huge attraction for 'cardies' - a headache for you mods, but a busy place for sure. Look, some of the card guys are actually alright - I had a question, and everyone I asked reached out politely and helpfully. I guess the waiting times are a shock - as it was for us comic guys when things began to pile up. CGC can use the PSA closure to their advantage - in fact if CGC were to invest heavily with more machinery, graders and technicians, they could become a literal giant of the collectables market. Oh and Mike, can you PLEASE, move the Rally Rd rubbish to the dealer section. It's a business pure and simple, you don't see Comic Dealers tout their business constantly in CG, so why should Rally Rd? If people are enamoured of it - fine, but put the thread where it belongs - in the dealer section. It's really annoying a lot of people, as there is blatant trolling going on by boardies who should, and do, know better.
  4. I'd be amazed if the average age of SA / GA collectors is 60+ People I'm buying those books off here are in the 40 - 45 age range. My competition at auction is 35 - 50 age range I'd say with the odd smattering of 20 somethings. The last big purchase in the wild (see Garage sales thread in CG) inc ASM #1, CSS #22 etc was from a 19 yr old. He collected them, and was paying down his Uni debt.
  5. As in The Melbourne Show in 1964? I actually thought that was a myth. Thanks - that's great info. Feel free to post it up on here!
  6. Good hunting! Hey if you ever get sent down here - I'm more than happy to get you completely wrecked in Melbourne. And I mean wrecked! Melbourne is a great City - it's always open. Sports capital of the world, own Grand Prix (Car and Bike) own Grand Slam (tennis) Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Basketball, Australian Rules Football (greatest sport in the world), the 5th richest Horse race in the World - the $8,000,000 Melbourne Cup - the list goes on. Oh yeah, and the Govt gives us all in Victoria a PUBLIC HOLIDAY for the AFL Grand Final and The Melbourne Cup! Beaches and Brothels, Casinos and Clubs, Racing and Pacing, Theatres, Comedy Festivals, Restaurants, Bars and 24 hr dance clubs. You want it, we have it. Be glad to show you the sights - your partner too of course, my missus loves a night out as well. Sadly, we are just starting one flight in to Australia per state per week. 14 day mandatory quarantine - we still have 400,000 Australians stuck abroad so they need to get home - plus we are letting some Chinese (Read $$$$$$ for Uni places) students in too - again I think 1 flight per week. We had our 2nd wave - didn't like it a lot, 700+ died in Victoria alone (6,000,000 people). We had quarantine, strict night curfews, massive fines for breaches of quarantine orders (max 5km travel for work or essential shopping / medical care), state border blockades by Police and Military. It worked, Covid is under control, and we are producing our own vaccine here right now. Curfew was terrible. We were all prisoners, and mental health issues soared. We do not want to go there again! But hey, when it's all over - and it will, eventually - then come on down, and get ready for a huge night or two out on the town! In all seriousness, if you do head down, PM me and at least I can recommend a good hotel for you and your partner - local knowledge is good knowledge!
  7. Congrats - thats' one hell of a tough book. I read an article (damned if I can find it) that stated it was Australia's rarest SA book ( because we didn't print many) Amazing achievement to own one - I have seen 2 copies total in the last 10 years - and one was mine. It's safe to say that the hunt for this book has driven me nuts at times!
  8. I hear you! My Lawn guy earns pretty much the same per hour as I do in Anaesthetics! Of course its a 6 months of the year gig for him, and there are 2 of them, but even so - if you aren't afraid of hard work, then Trade Work is the way to go. Never ever met a hard working Electrician, Plasterer or Carpenter who earned peanuts.
  9. Good Luck with that!
  10. The 3.0 sale for $30,000 is much more significant (march 24th) Lower grades are jumping too - a rising tide lifts all boats....
  11. The Horowitz Australian Daredevil #1 Same release date, different cover. I had a low grade one years ago and sold it on expecting a higher grade to appear. It never did. Extremely rare book - and probably biggest comic mistake I ever made.
  12. When I grab a collection, I usually give away stuff that isn't worth listing - all in good order, but just not worth my time to put up on ebay. I take them to work and make sure the minimum wage staff get first dibs, as that seems fair. The usual takers are all young, and are enthusiastic about comics - they buy, but on their current wage, then key books aren't affordable for them at this point in their life. When they get promoted, or graduate, then they will buy better books, after improving their lot in life. I think there are a hell of a lot of young people who once their salary improves, will become collectors of 'bigger' books. They take my freebies to read and save, not sell on. They are engaged with the medium and are in it for the long-haul. I have no doubt whatsoever that whilst prices need to be corrected, and soon, that there is no shortage of young people waiting to become serious collectors. They are just not able to at the moment, but will when their careers unfold. I think there is quite a bubble on these boards, and sometimes we can confuse the big players on here who drop $10K+ on a single book as representative of a 'collector'. Thats not the case - there are many, many young people who drop $5 on a book and are equally as engaged as 'collectors' My only point of difference is that today, it is movie /TV that brings them in, not the stores/Newsstands. I think the future will be ok - but non-genuine (temporary if you like) keys are heading for a hit. There will be a correction, but blue chip books will be OK. ASM #101 + #300....not so much!
  13. Better still - why not move the bloody thread to the dealers section. It's pretty much blatant trolling by Rally Rd now. It's got beyond tedious.
  14. Well, I've watched it three times now and can say without hesitation, that it was an epic for the ages. Edge of the seat stuff Greater understanding of the characters - humour and tears. Just a great, great film. 10 / 10 Oh and the singing - they are Aquaman's children. Whatever Snyder wants to expand the JL universe - just give it to him.
  15. It's true. The previous 11 before Domo have been through all kinds of hell. But not the emoji removal or Dylan. No-one should have to face Dylan without this badge. It's a big job Buzz, even for a Nyew Yorka
  16. You are a very naughty man.
  17. Oh for goodness sake chaps, Board detective badges have been given out for ages - just not for a while. Swick might have been the last recipient @Domo Arigato - Post your Board Detective badge again please!
  18. Seeing Domo's Board Detective badge bought a smile or two. I suggest we start awarding these again for meritorious service, (or for just annoying douchebags like Dylan) on an as-deserved basis. Ladies and gentlemen Detective Buzzetta anyone? Couldn't think of a more deserving candidate - so vote yes, or no for Buzz YES (dunno who presents it - should be one of the old-timers I reckon)
  19. Locked. Wonder if someones Daddy got someone on retainer to make a call to CGC. Would not be surprised. Enablers gotta enable.
  20. You are correct - The blob is right - it's #12 cover My bad
  21. If this is based on 'Herogasm' - well, we may see far more of these young actors than non-readers may expect! Well saucy was Herogasm! And if it's based on G-Men and how they get powers - then The Boys are getting the jab in Season 3! About time too!
  22. I'm Australian, so I'm watching from afar - I have no knowledge of your IRS rules beyond what people write here. My only interest is that it's certain to head our way in a few years time if it proves profitable over your way.
  23. Do you guys have an 'ownership period of time' exemption? As in - if you own it for say 10 years, it is tax exempt? W do here, but as Australia follows USA in most things, I fear this is only 3-4 yrs away for us. Currently pre 1996 purchases and under $600 are exempt, but I'm sure that will change. I have some books I bought way back when that are four figures now, plus the usual garage sale 'no receipt' purchases that we all have. Look if I make 3k on a book in a year - I expect to pay taxes - on a book I have owned for 40 yrs, not so much.
  24. You do know you can look up some of this stuff yourself using google search
