It appears that it was just a great alignment of circumstances - right buyer, right time, and probably the only 9.8 black label on the market at the time.

I think that is a little high on a 9.6 for that issue. I picked up a 9.8 for 8 2nd print for $111. BTW, I have bought quite a few WD 9.8s from that seller, lancepearson007.He is very easy to work with if you wanted to send him an offer.

Maybe. My modern FT last month moved from SFG to Graded/QC to Shipped/Safe all within 24 hours. My current modern FT has been sitting in Graded/QC for a few days now.

Why not send it in with a prescreen? BTW, I have seen graders at CGC treat ink smudges on very differently from each other. I had a book that had a slight smudge on the front cover, already graded 9.4, that I thought a press might be able to lift. Pressing lifted it a little (but not much) but the book looked beautiful so I sent it in to get graded. It came back a 9.0. I had it pressed again and sent in again, came back a 9.0. I sat on it for a few months, cracked it, thought (again) that it looked beautiful, sent it in with a prescreen, and it came back 9.8.

I don't post often here, but I was very happy with the grades these received. Bought these raw about a year ago for my personal collection and just got them back from CGC.

That was me. I just haven't had the time to properly reseach how to do a proper regression analysis and how to build a proper model for it.

I cannot see any reason why 113 is selling so high in 9.8.
