  1. I too have overpaid, and when possible it's to the artists themselves. Based on current estimated value of those pieces I do not regret the past over payments. The problem is when others overpay for similar art that I was already overpaying, it then means less or no soup for me. Based on my ID name you probably will get an idea of the specific title
  2. - and I don't necessarily want to be held for ransom - "e.g., I'll only trade you this piece if _____ in your CAF gallery is part of the deal" A very good point!
  3. Hoping you folks one day will do a Romita Jr/Layton Iron Man - specifically 1979's the 120's Demon In Bottle issues. If you do I'll contribute my covers/splashes/panels.
  4. I added the original-1-of-a-kind Thanos Copter Splash page art to my collection a long time ago, yet a 9.6 or 9.8 Spidey 39 still eludes my grasp. Ain't Life Strange
  5. I'm employed in IT Security. Based on the posts variations of known patterns are in play. In itself that does not prove anything, but it does increase the plausibility of a scheme
  6. I've purchased many CBCS books. I do like that they cost me less than CGC, but realize there are reasons for that. Reasons included lower demand, more difficult re-sale, and at one time much more lenient grading. As an occasional submitter and seller if I going use a grading firm that is considered 2nd best then cost must make it worthwhile. I do not feel yet its in my best interest to do so but am open to what future may bring. In 2019 I cracked out 9 Silver-Age CBCS graded 9.2 - 9.6 that I paid basically raw prices on and submitted them CGC. Here's my result breakdown: 3 received same grade from CGC, 5 received lower grade, 1 received higher grade. For sure it it was a small sampling from me. Curious to know what others results here have been doing the same.
  7. From WTB on this forum. My Thanks to he knows who he is A win-win for both of us! The First Star Wars Extended Universe Story! Not to mention a great 1970's mag cover. Love that "A Marvel Magazine" logo
  8. I do agree. I also agree it's a significant Bronze age cover. Bill Sienkiewicz is at the top echelon of Comic artist that his first ever cover work needs to be correctly documented by CGC. Other artist at that level AFAIK have their first covers documented by CGC correctly. In my opinion CGC needs to have a form for requesting the correction of erroneous information.
  9. A very good question. Might come down to the page by page basis but my GUESS is pages with She-Hulk will go for more than pages with Sandman. But there could be exceptions. I do know this all things being equal artist-wise, 70's Marvel Covers of "B" or "C" string titles sell for DC "A" title money sometimes a lot more. Main exception being Batman

  11. New feature at the same time is both very nice and perhaps not so nice to have.
  12. DC gets no love. Given bulk of their 70 and early 80's output it's not a surprise, what is a surprise to me are are mid 80's -1990 stuff too gets little love. If Sandman 1 and Sandman 8 had been Marvel Books they would be over $3k each now. They barely touch half that currently. Savage She-Hulk 1 goes for about the same money and it's one of the highest population CGC census books in existence - top 6 in 9.8 population IIRC. While Sandman 8 has only about 3-4% of the She-Hulk CGC census pop. Bottom line as mentioned by others, DC is not anywhere near being in Marvel's League.
  13. Any that sits around year after year would be low demand and overpriced. When you get right down to it OCA has always been Character Driven then Artist driven. If one doesn't care about the former than the later is of less interest. When you have both you get the big money sales. Of course like anything else in life there are exceptions. What would be in more demand a Byrne Space 1999 Splash from 1975 or a Byrne Fantastic Four Splash from 1979/1980/1981/1982/1983 assuming the pages all featured the main characters? While Space 1999 is cool for the few who still recall it the FF splash would win out every time. Another example; a McFarlane Infinity inc page or McFaclane Amazing Spider-Man page assuming the pages all featured the main characters? Entirely my opinion but here is my list of what I look for in comic art - or rather did when it was merely expensive or super expensive 1) Does the piece bring back memories? 2) Character(s) 3) Imagery - I prefer "Heroic" posed or "Heroic" action over a hero having "the snot beat out of them" 4) Artist 3 and 4 can be flipped depending on 1 and 2. Of course cost overrides all on the list. I'm a collector only though, dealers I do not see following the order I mentioned.
  14. Curious thought about this situation: House AD in some Comic Books for a given month featuring a new character but the book is never published. Several years later the Character makes their first appearance. Is the art used for the earlier published house ad the Characters first appearance from an art perspective? It did appear in several comics and regardless of not being in a story it would still be something some readers remember.
  15. Adventure 462 is low population for a key book in 9.8,9.6 and 9.4 - Yet 9.4's, which on this highly condition sensitive book is HIGH grade, sit on eBay at $140. Perhaps if it was billed as the 1st appearance of the dead Earth II / Golden Age Batman it woudl be in higher demand? Or 1st cover appearance of a crying Huntress? P.S. It's always bothered me that Wonder Woman's disembodied head is smiling.
  16. I'd say that's a bit high, but yeah most Comic art is not. Since Greatest is totally in the eye of the beholder here is what I think qualifies: Greatest is Chuck Norris #1 cover. Who's going to tell Chuck he's wrong? Chuck has a Grizzly rug in his den, it's not dead just too scared to move. Second greatest OCA in existence is 1st Thanos Copter: Sure a tad tongue-in-cheek on my part, but each of the above has become entrenched in pop-culture and would now command $10k+. Is there anybody who would have thought that circa 2005?
  17. Loki tie-ins: - 1st Time Keepers. - Immortus/"He Who Remains" and 1st app of his Citadel due to such a low graded population I don't expect to see many slabbed sales to track for a while until subs start popping.
  18. Thor 281 - 282 , a nice little story and some of Pollards best work - lot of really cool backgrounds by him and Marcos especially in 281. Very tiny CGC population compared to other books recent MCU has made hot - probably due to apathy and 40 years of sitting in dealer's discount bins.
