Can someone clarify something for me: was tracking the TAR 41 because I have one. Blown away by price it got, but when I went to see data some things didn't seem jive. This grade doesn't appear when I search CGC census, the slab #comes back null, so what's going on? Can't imagine a fake 1.5 slab? Huh? ???

He is attributed on the Sky girl story on the interior of March '49 Jumbo #121 though--- was it possible that he was freelancing at the time? What year/month did he fully leave Iger Shop?

I suppose if he was freelancing for Fiction House on just the the interior sky girl story, that would make it quite a bit less likely that he did any of the work on the cover (which I think was packaged by iger shop), right?

Does anyone know of a specific Sheena cover that is confirmed to be Baker?

    We tried, it failed.

It failed because majority think romance when you mentioned Matt Baker. Baker is much more then Romance books.

If it helps, think of this thread as our collective romance with all Baker comics.  I own exactly zero Baker romance books...they were too expensive when I started, and still are.  Have picked up a few decent Baker non romance books though, may as well post a few...been a bit since I spammed this thread.

I started collecting Baker Romance books, ones I discover other books I switched my thinking. Sold mostly all my romance books.
collectors are starting look for other Baker non-Romance books.

You or Ron start a non romance Baker thread, everyone will start posting.

I’d love to see this thread renamed “Baker Street” given Matt’s tremendous work in other genres!

we need a second thread non-Romance Baker. so much material available.

Ted Williams came close, earning $90,000 in 1950 and 1951, but his salary declined thereafter. (from the internet)

Which puts this right around 1950.  I don't have any other insight on this piece, but I think that is my writing "Swann's" on the reverse which was a personal note while I was trying to figure it out before reselling it on ebay, IIRC.  A few years ago.  Don't remember where I got it, sadly, probably ebay wrong category pick-up.  If anyone has access to ebay archives, I would have likely listed it as an unknown artist tryout strip under original comic strip art category, an authentic period piece. likely unpublished.  Best wishes, David

    Thanks David

I did purchase this piece from you here on boards years back. sure looks like a tryout strip. Wonder whose pencils?

    early 50’s strip.
