  1. There is no exact science. If there aren't many popping up, we tend to ignore them. When the trend of OT posts gets too numerous, we run a quick skim through the threads and move a bunch. If your OT post was this week as part of a trend of too many, you'll get swept. If it was an isolated incidence on a mostly on-topic week, it might get left. Also, some topics are more clearly way off topic than others. For example, a post about the TV show heros, while not technically about comic books is pretty clearly sort of comic book related through the super hero concept. A post about Battlestar Galactica... ok... not very comic booky but a pretty good bet to be of interest to the crowd. A post about flying model airplanes... water cooler. Essentially it's a process left to expediency and based on the general feel among the participants and moderators of whether CG is feeling too off topic. We will not be refining that process as it wouldn't be worth the time consumption. Please just utilize common sense and try to keep things generally on topic. Thanks.
  2. There's a "Jump To:" drop down in the lower right hand corner of every page...
  3. This is just a reminder that while there is considerable lee-way on what's allowed in comics general, including the occasional OT post, we do need to keep a reasonable limit on non-comic related posts. This is less a carved in stone limit than a general feel for the % of OT content. The water cooler is the appropriate place for general banter. Thanks. Arch
  4. Pre-announcing sales in the general forum is out. Doesn't belong there.
  5. I think you guys should debate this, post your reasoning and try to make your points. I'll run another post-discussion poll and see if minds have changed.
  6. THREADS STARTED TO ANNOUNCE UPCOMING SALES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's get some opinions on these. Vote and discuss please. Needless hype and spam, or a favor for those interested so they can read and respond to the sale when it goes up rather than missing the opportunity?
  7. Note that with WTB broken out, using "FS:" (and "WTB:") in thread titles isn't strictly necessary anymore, so feel free to do what you want.
  8. Yes. Yes, and there would be more if it had it's own forum I think. So where are we at on the separate WTB forum? Want To Buy... IT'S ALLLIIIIIIIVVVEE!! AAAALLLLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVEEEE!!!!
  9. Who cares who frequents it? If I put up a WTB post, I couldn't care less who fills it. Lowest price wins. If a zilliion dealers respond to a WTB post, the price will come down. I tend to agree with this. Why does it matter who responds? Will forum members be LESS likely to respond simply because dealers are responding also?
  10. NO I would expand on your reasons for wanting to keep it as one forum if you'd like your thoughts to get serious consideration. Thanks, Arch
  11. 39 WTB new threads over the last week. 154 in the last month. You guys think that is enough for its own forum?
  12. Back off on the hi-jacking of FS threads on this forum to complain about the format please. Discuss it here, agree to disagree if you need to, report the thread to a moderator if you'd like. But let's try to avoid feuding over nuances of the guidelines all over the threads of the boards. Thanks, Arch
  13. Thank you all for (MOSTLY) keeping this a civil and rational conversation. I know there are some passionate views about these things, but there have been some great point-of-view-sharing posts in this thread without (many) insults. Thanks.
  14. I wonder if we could help meet banner's desire for more help with his hard to find books by instituting some WTB guidelines. IS it entirely insane to make it a guideline that WTB posts should include title and condition notes, and price that you WILL buy the book for? If we did that, would filling WTB requests on this forum become so convenient that dealers would take more advantage of respond to WTB posts (and so would other collectors) and thus obscure wants would be filled more easily? Of course, it's up to you what you list as a price. $0.01, or $10,000. But if you do that, even if you low ball it a bit, you may find someone who knows you're close, and can offer the book you need to you "in that ball park"?
  15. I would go ahead and post it here. Make sure to explicitly say how long the sale will last if it has a time limit, and that they will go up on ebay once the time limit expires. Feel free to post on the thread to close it when the time expires, and to communicate what books have sold and what haven't. That's it. If you want to advertise the ebay sale, go ahead and do it on the sales advertising board. Let's keep the ebay links out of this board to avoid gray areas where people might put things up on this board for short periods of time for outrageous prices just to get more play. We want to avoid that. Thanks, Arch
  16. Currently, we're not dealing with auctions. Auctions get complicated. A sophisticated system for assisting with the auction process works better, and that's ebay's strength.
  17. Updated this guideline: "Thread title must start with "FS:" (for sale) and must give some indication of the types of items for sale." People seem to like FS better, and it's more visually distinguishable anyway.
  18. Guidelines update "Threads may be bumped three times total AND only ONE FULL DAY AFTER falling off of the front page. This does not include "sold" notices, or truly useful informational updates. Note: we CAN tell the difference between a real update and a fake bump-update. Tread that line at your own risk. If you're spam bumping, "lawyering" the rules will not save you."
  19. Let it go. A continuation of insult exchanges on this thread will result in moderation. That is not the purpose of this thread, and my "hi-jacking a thread" trigger finger is itching.
  20. Made these changes: Books must be CGC or raw only, or items directly related to comics. No spamming. Group your for sale items into as few threads as is reasonable. Attempts to take up front page real estate by creating multiple threads for no reason are not allowed.
