Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
manetteska replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
"#26 ALPHA FLIGHT #17 (MARVEL 1998) 1st Big Hero 6. Sales up to $40.00 for this new key issue before the new movie from Disney appears." It is what it is. There is confusion around the "true" 1st appearance: printing dates, CGC labels, creators's wishes, comic vs. film, etc. This isn't the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last. On the bright side, this means all issues are selling well; way above what anyone paid, so enjoy it. -

Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
manetteska replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
No, I'm aggiez12 on E-bay. I have no idea who the other guy is. Just pointing out the auction to the group. I wish I have another 8 copies of that book. I'm watching the X-force #2 lots to gauge how my auction did And seriously, my definition of "high grade" is typically anything starting with a 9... Gotcha; now we're all on the same page. I wish I had more copies, too. Several times in the past few months I've passed over X-Force #2 and picked up #11 instead -- as that *may* be a 1st appearance issue. Even for $2 I wouldn't have lost that much if #2 never panned out; sometimes I'm too cheap. My NM X-Force #2 & #11 combo went for $22 on eBay. Sounds like that's at the low end. I always wonder on things like this if there are just too many auctions/sales for the money to spread around. -

X-Force #2 raw is going for $20-25, lots are selling well. And X-Force #1 looks like it's graduated from the $0.25 bin to the $3 bin. Some of these are my recent auctions: X-Force #2 - 5 book lot = $22.70 each X-Force #2 - 8 book lot = current bid of $105 and 12 bidders, 1-day left X-Force #1 - 9 book lot = $3.67 each Not seeing the 8-count lot show up, either via the link, or going to your account. When you say "high grade" -- what grade(s) does that cover? That covers the high ones... Here's the corrected link http://www.ebay.com/itm/141420557451?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Interesting. So 2 different accounts... One just lists "high grade", while the other splits them out in to actual grades. Just trying to figure things out. Some people say "high grade" and that is 8.5 and up; others it's 9.4 and up. -

I figure since Chip says he bought those comics at 3/$1, then he's more open to low-ball offers. -

I care about the New Teen Titans #2 and Iron Fist #14! I found some real junk on my last CL trip and was there for 2+ hours as he recounted the entire story of each comic book he picked up. -
SPOILER-FILLED thread about Agents Of SHIELD
manetteska replied to slym2none's topic in The Movie Forum
To echo some others here, for the first half of the episode I debated dropping the whole series; trying too hard on the secrets/espionage/conspiracy stuff. A couple shows I know start off good and interesting and then buried themselves in their own mythology and convoluted plot twists. The second half really pulled me back in. Finally some people with special powers and extra terrestrial objects doing crazy things. I'm not that much of a Marvel historian, so is the big baddie reveal at the end mean anything to anyone? -

Ahh, so you're looking at the SOLD listings only. Have to be careful there, as some of those sales go back to early August. That's why I look at Completed; shows you what sold AND what didn't. So DCP #27 may have been selling for $25 in August, but no one is really buying it now. -

Check out what 27 & 28 are doing. Nothing much? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=dc+comics+presents+27&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc Focus on down to Bronze Age only and you'll see what he's talking about. Still not seeing much -- at least for #27: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Bronze-Age-197083-/12590/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=dc+comics+presents+27 I see: CGC 8.5 not selling for $80. Raw VF- not selling for $40. Raw VF- not selling for $30. Random raw sold for $6. Another raw sold for $10. Raw VF+ sold for $30 (this seems to be an outlier compared to every other listing). Raw VF sold for $9. -

Yeah, those Scalped #1s are tough. The few that I have found all had scuffing on the back cover and a spine tick or two. Ruff.

+1 That's what I'm seeing too, if you look at completed sales, not what people want for it. -

Greg has started doing this a lot - he grabs a stack of his artist comps, gets them pre-screened for 9.8, does a sketch on each of them (which is witnessed by CGC), and then sells them in his eBay store once they're slabbed. He either fast-tracks or does the books onsite, so there's no 3 month waiting period. There are several other artists who do the exact same thing. I wondered how long before artists would start to figure out this game. Not a bad way at all to make some nice scratch. -

I assumed it was actually him, based on the ID and store name. In order to limit the amount of time the buyer is waiting for his/her purchase, does the artist start sketching and submitting his/her comps before the book hits the public? -

I agree for the most part. I'm pretty selective with the ones I get since there are so many. It's both a blessing (due to the great artwork) and a curse (due to the amount made -- especially with Marvel's current method of pimping out #1s with a minimum of 4 variants). Some are the price of a classic key, which is ridiculous. But that just my I am still blown away by the prices Greg Horn was getting for his slabbed Gamestop variants with his and Lee's sig and a quick sketch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-1-CGC-9-8-GAME-STOP-SIGNED-SKETCHED-BY-GREG-HORN-STAN-LEE-NR-/321443785853?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4ad78aec7d&nma=true&si=LAPHHcRad1Kp%252BtuMrQDJVRkWXow%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Death-of-Wolverine-1-CGC-9-8-REMARKED-edition-GAMESTOP-variant-by-GREG-HORN-/361033466606?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item540f4582ee&nma=true&si=LAPHHcRad1Kp%252BtuMrQDJVRkWXow%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 just wow... Greg Horn's Spidey head looks a hell of a lot better than Stan's though. That second listing is interesting. I wondered why the picture was so blurry around the specifics of the CGC case, yet everything else in the picture is focused so clearly. And how someone was able to get this comic so fast, remarked, and graded. Turns out, if you keep reading the fine print, this is a pre-sale. Also, based on the seller's name/store, someone very closely associated with Greg Horn (or GH himself). The listing also mentions having 15 of these. Quite a good amount of dough if they go for the same amount. Lastly, if Greg is marking these himself, is he going to have a CGC rep standing over him while he does it or does he get a "pass" b/c he's an artist? Or are people "winning" this auction going to have to wait 3 months to finally get their item? Like I said...interesting. -

If anyone is in the area, I saw about 4 or so copies of 3A and 3B at the Forbidden Planet London store while on vacation. I would have bought them, but had no way to get them back to the states in good condition. That store also has a ton of Southern Bastards FB variants (as one would assume) on the shelves. (Among other FB variants.) -

Were they for sale for $1 each, or is that the usual Craigslist ad junk? Did you end up buying all of them?
