L.B. Cole cover thread! Post your favorites by the master!
manetteska replied to *paull*'s topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Yikes indeed. Wonder if a boardie won it? The structure is lovely for sure, though that printing glitch in the green (or fade or whatever it is) would bug me for $3K+ I was looking at other stuff and completely missed the different colors. I noticed and asked (although quite late in the game) about the black "dot" on the 5th picture -- inside back cover. That hindered my bidding cap, but even if that wasn't there I was never going near $3k. -

My bid was blown out of the water on this Startling Terror Tales #5. Yikes. -

If they are in G/E/I then they were graded the same day the status changed to G/E/I, typically. Your Heir to the Empire newsstand graded a 9.8 and since that's a $4K book, give or take, CGC is making sure they get theirs. Congrats, I guess. That may be true (though I didn’t have that as a 9.8 candidate). I will wait to say more until my submission is fully out the door.

My 25 MFT pre-screen is now in GEI. I have also been fee adjusted. One of my books was moved to Walkthrough (Heir to the Empire 1 newsstand — wth? Maybe the line number is a typo as that doesn’t seem like a Walkthrough book). So maybe that 1 book is in GEI and the rest will linger?

Holy poo, mine were delivered today as well! Now to wait for all of the price adjustments.

Actually I just “bought” something on eBay come to think of it. We’ll see if it’s actually shipped and then how the condition is.

I should have bid on the $660 but haven’t had good luck recently buying off of eBay. I probably would have opened the bag and had the cover break off as I counted pages.

I’ll take the Terror! -
Even the copy with a big chunk cut out of the back cover?

Do you know if Joey made a CGC run recently? Was hoping my bundle was in the next truckload. Comics with him since about the same time.

Post your Garage Sale/Flea Market/Antique Mall Finds Here

On Saturday I actually went to a nearby shop after the sale.. I got Marvel Boy 1 for $4.. I contemplated but couldn't push myself to buy the remaining series issues for $3 a piece.. plus tax! (and that's a set I believe will go higher) Don't tell @jsilverjanet but I only bought the sets b/c that's how they were sold (i.e. 1-6 for $5). Otherwise I would have left the other 5. -

I’ve yelled at @manetteskafor doing the same - I hate when they don’t take the whole set. Especially if you are getting a deal, grab the entire set and at least do the seller a favor I don't need no Secret Wars #9-12. -

I'm surprised the packs weren't opened already.

I enjoyed the first ep, setting up the characters and showing relationships/stories before everything went belly-up. I watched the second episode last night, and while I haven't read the comic in quite a while, it seemed the show is focusing a lot more on government and getting things running/keeping the peace. Not to mention the title character of the show is only in the episode for 10 mins. Had high hopes but they are fading.

I think this was a great representation of Cole's categories in the low-mid range and a nice marker for FMV. There were funny animals, romance, crime, western, some sci-fi and horror. Link Without looking at all of the notes, just going by price + title grade, the surprises for me would be: Terrifying Tales #15 - $455 GD Jungle Thrills #16 - $494 GD+ (both higher than Terrors #17 [girl on the stake issue]) Terrors of the Jungle #20 (octopus) - $665 VG+ has really jumped up recently Overall, looking at the numbers now, I am surprised at how high some of the jungle titles ended. I did win one book and came in under my max bid, so I guess that was a surprise on the low side. -

Now the dust has settled on Blissard's Cole auctions, how did it go? What sold too high? What sold too low? Did anyone here win? -
What did you personally think was going to happen once all those "old tier" CGC pricing books were finally opened? Grading TaT's weren't just going to go magically back down, but they also have not gotten terrible worse. They obviously need to get graded, hence receiving is catching up but grading will lag for a couple weeks then encapsulation will lag till all those old CHC tier price books are finally gone and back to the customers. Who are probably losing money because they weren't smart enough to understand the market and bought those books too high, and will be butt-hurt that everyone wins in the transaction except them . Just think about all those people who are using CCS now and have loosing comic books just waiting to be pressed and graded, only to have them come back worth 25-50% less. So those people usually next time wont be so quick to re-submit and CGC can get back on track grading mostly garbage (because most people submit complete garbage), but the real books that people actually want to buy will be graded faster. So no prediction, right?
