  1. It all depends on how much profit you make, not how much you sell. It can hurt if bought at cover and sold years later at an inflated price, but if you're buying for short term resale at 50 cents on the dollar, it isn't bad. I've also been told that they will be more lenient if you just began your journey in the realms of Business.... should a discrepancy arise. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Not to put everything out there, but my Profit -- on SOLD goods only -- was good. However, I took all of that Profit to buy more comics, essentially "Netting" me $0, or, honestly, in the negative. (Which isn't to say my overall "inventory" price is stagnant, just SOLD - Purchases. And again gets into the formula, etc. And then more questions, like: Am I then being taxed on Inventory which sat for a year and tripled in price, and then taxed again when I sell it?) This is where I am at with all of this, which is a very individual- and state-specific scenario: (Using fake amounts) There is a big difference in paying taxes on $10k in SOLD Profit, versus $0 in SOLD Comics - Purchases.
  2. Wow; they are taking the fees out of Sales Tax as well. Money that I never see is being deducted from my bottom line. Is that legal? And yes, they still take the fees from the Shipping, which, in some weird way, at least the seller gets that money. Here's a sale I just had when you go into the details: And on my Payout email: Can see the Amount column shows $364 -- which is the Item + Shipping -- yet the fees ($49.05) are against the full Total ($388.43), which includes Sales Tax. And, if I am taxed on $388.43, then the fees should be subtracted from that amount, not just Item + Shipping. 49.05 / 364 = 13.48% 49.05 / 388.43 = 12.63%
  3. There is a formula that is used .... you will need the total initial cost of inventory at the beginning of year and the total at the end of the year, you will need your purchases total and your Sales total for that year, and then you subtract your expenses from the profit that was arrived at with the formula. Just remember, your State may require you to have a Business License in order to use these deductions on your State Taxes. The Business license will also allow you to buy supplies and inventory on line without paying Sales Tax. My first license( for sales of 50K or less )was 50 dollars per year. In many cases you will be expected to COLLECT sales tax for sales occurring in your State. It's not so bad, and if you have a loss in your business, it can trigger a refund from your "day job" tax bill. In our State, you can only maintain a business if it shows a profit 3 out of every 5 years. It requires responsibility, but is not as onerous as one usually fears at first. GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Thanks; I have seen this formula before but in 2020 I did not have a Business License, and -- as you said -- every state is different so I'm back where I started. I will see what the tax-prep says, and I'll pay what I owe, but if this becomes too much of a hassle, or I end up paying more in taxes than a corporation just to have a nice comic collection, I'm out.
  4. As long as both items' sales show up on the 1099, yes. My question is -- and has yet to be answered though I have turned over my docs to the tax preparer -- can I deduct ALL of my 2020 Comic Purchases against my 2020 Comic Sales? Or can I only deduct the purchase cost of the 2020 sold items? If this were a "regular" business, yes; however, this is a different and (to me) new situation.
  5. There are other comic areas which have not (or not as drastically) been affected by this recent surge. Unfortunately, if you were someone after a Hulk 181 and were saving up for a nice copy, being told, "It's OK, the first Silver Age Hawkman is still affordable" doesn't do any good.
  6. I know there are post code issues.. is there an abundance, or lots, or several, or few..? To be more specific, I am looking for St. John post-code. I'd say there are several, though they don't show up often compared to the pre-code work. There are also covers he did for other publishers which are - generally - more common. And I'm sure someone will more knowledge will show up to fix mistakes/assumptions I've made.
  7. I know this isn't the WTB thread, but I will probably reach more of my audience this way. I am looking for Baker post-code issues. If anyone has any doubles, leads (outside of auction houses), etc. it would be greatly appreciated.
  8. He is a board member and that book is on the rise @Murkadellik Confirm/deny? I also saw this one pop up and then almost immediately disappear from my alerts. I really wish watchcount still worked
  9. Looks like a nice #115, and I don't really like that cover (compared to others).
  10. Not that I'm complaining, but what is the significance of Star Wars #23 (Infinity's End Part 1)?
  11. I'm trying to fathom what ThothAmon posted... Is he reselling the same book over and over? Perhaps one or two are returns and relists, but these are all different books -- across many different titles and issues. Try searching the page for X-Men #101 sold for that seller. For instance, the top left back corner of this one versus this one. Alleged itinerary is: Buy graded comic -> Crack graded comic -> Press and/or Photoshop comic -> List comic at higher grade than original 3rd party grade.
  12. lol; I knew that item description sounded very familiar... Can probably ask @James J Johnson where that copy actually came from and CGC's take on the grade.
  13. The guy paying that for the 9.8 Man-Thing probably already owns HULK 181 & GS X-men in 9.8 Perhaps; then the buyer is really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find things to purchase. At least it was the 1974 volume. Stepping back from issue/title comparisons, if the original post is correct (I don't know where the 3/20/21 sale occurred), it's a jump from $1040 -> $3840 in a week; that's insane. I'm about finished trying to make sense out of all of this. There can't be an endless supply of "bitcoin" investors now buying comics & sports cards & Magic & Pokemon & etc; something else is afoot (or a congruence of things). I just know I'm not going to be able to afford (or want to afford) any "keys" or "semi-keys" real soon.
  14. I would. Phantom Stranger 14 is getting hard to find because it was a prototype of both Swamp Thing and Man Thing. What does that have to do with a random Bronze Age 1st issue?
  15. Or, to put this in perspective of another #1 issue that is not a first appearance, you can get a 9.0 Iron Man #1 for < $3000.
  16. So you're saying you'd rather have a Man-Thing #1 9.8 versus a Giant X-Men #1 5.0 or Incredible Hulk #181 4.5?
  17. Some made up news about Jim Carrey and Deadpool 3. Is that before or after Ace Ventura 3?
  18. I just picked one article, but, essentially movie news: https://variety.com/2021/film/news/emerald-fennell-zatanna-movie-1234931976/
