  1. Now I have to go find my copy...

As to PL #17 and Jo-Jo #25, considering these are questioned Baker covers (and some would argue definitively not), they still continue to bring in big money.

Is that due to limited buyer knowledge, iconic imagery regardless of artist, other?

Thanks for posting these. Wow, that Cinderella Love 29 and Crown 7 (two of my favorites) went crazy. I bought these for peanuts (by todays standards) a few years ago just because I loved them so much. I am a bit astounded but so happy I grabbed them and hung on to them…

I guess I'm a bit out of touch on the Jo-Jo #25; I thought that price was crazy until I looked up recent sales -- seems in-line.

Is it definitely a Baker cover?

Sorry, just in the census. The 9.4 is the Savannah’s and sold 10+ years ago, at least publicly.

I’ve been looking for about 7 years, and my copy is just a VG/F. I’d love to upgrade, but not for anything near what that one sold for.

Understood. I have two copies -- haven't looked at the older one in a bit -- but I'd say mid-grade as well.

Who is more surprised on this copy of Young Love #49 ?

The seller for the auction ending that high, or the buyer when receiving the comic and it's not 7.5 - 8.5 as advertised?

That does look like a pretty crazy price. Especially considering there are a few higher grade slabs for that book. It slides look like the buyer left positive feedback.

It doesn’t come up for sale all too often, but jeez. That was a lot to pay for that book.

The higher grade slabs are for Sale or in the Census?

To clarify, did CGC give you credits for the grading of the lost books, or credits for the cost (FMV) of the lost books?

All three! (CCS fees, CGC fees, plus FMV).

But it took 8 months of back and forth and non-stop "we'll have our verification team look into it and get back to you"... heard that line about 5-6x in the same thread.

They tried to give me the FMV of the books they swapped in for mine that I sent back to them (and not my original FMV I put on the form). Even that was an annoyance.. it really does take persistence and good records to ensure if things go sideways, you have the ammo to get what is promised.

Now, I take photos of EVERY BOOK (many boardie's have suggested it, and it's true... do it...), even my run-of-the-mill moderns with lower FMVs. Sure it adds a few minutes of my time, but it saves hours later on if issues crop-up.

On one of my other book swaps from an unrelated submission to this one I had no photo proof (one of my earlier subs just before the big pile up of 2021-22 when things switched overnight to 10+month TATs), so they said "sorry, can't do anything about it..." so I was out my $25 raw FMV plus CCS/CGC fees... so if anything, with my moderns I submit it's not even so much about "protecting" the $10-20 raw book now, but about trying to recoup the CCS/CGC costs if/when there are mistakes.

    .. live and learn...

So you were given credit, not actual money, for the FMV of books they lost?

I'm hoping these were new, off-the-shelf moderns, or you were given a choice, as being out $1000 of books and receiving $1000 of credit is not the same.

As a quick update, I did call and I think it was straightened out. The service rep was helpful as always. She told me the computer program that is used to generate these charges does miss credits a lot (she said most of the time) and you can just call in to have the credit amount put back onto your card which is what I did.

On my end it is all fine since the credit was applied, and making a phone call is not a big deal. It does seem a bit inefficient on CGC's end since this process ties up their customer support folks, and I imagine the accounting person who has to go in and fix it. If I owned a large company I would not want to see that type of wastage since it eats into the overall cost savings of having a computer do this to begin with. It feels like either the programming or database coordination could be improved since the credits should be in a place that could be read by the computer system as it processes the bill. It is not as though reading a few extra lines of coding and processing an extra function would slow a computer down in any meaningful way.

It's not "wastage" if the customer doesn't notice credits are not applied and CGC gets real money instead.

I've been to both-- I think there are more vintage vendors at FanExpo, but I don't care about crafty art, modern comics, pops all that kind of stuff.  I find more of that at C2E2 which is also at a worse time of year and IMO.  FanExpo is actually in Rosemont, it's like eight minutes from O'Hare and much more family friendly than Chicago proper can be.

    hm

Are there a lot of comic book vendors at the Expo? I always go to C2E2, but have never been to Fan Expo.

I would say perhaps a little more overall at Fan Expo (based on last year)?

Some only do C2E2, others only do Fan Expo, then some overlap.

Per Ebay if anyone is curious:

Additionally, we may place a transaction hold on funds depending on your seller status, changes to your account status, or other factors we use to help ensure a safe marketplace in all categories, regardless of whether the transaction is covered by our eBay Money Back Guarantee or not:

    • New or infrequent sellers will experience transaction holds while learning best selling practices. This helps sellers become established and build a strong selling history on eBay. New sellers typically experience holds for up to 14 days, although sometimes it may be longer
    • Previously restricted or suspended sellers will experience transaction holds for the 30 days after the restriction or suspension is lifted, while we confirm that the items have been successfully delivered
    • High priced items or unusual selling patterns may lead to transaction holds for up to 30 days to help us ensure that buyers don't have any issues with the order
    • The authentication process may lead to transaction holds for up to 30 days until the authenticity of items sold with eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee can be confirmed

    Thank you.

I am by no means a high volume or high dollar seller -- probably a few items a month -- so unsure what their "factors" are (and I'm sure they'll never tell).

For the OP @D2, for high-dollar items if experiencing eBay 30-days holds regularly, use MyComicShop. On raws they may grade differently (i.e. lower) than you, but it is usually worth it for the hassle-free experience.
