I thought Kilmongers intentions were somewhat (loosely) addressed when Ross commented that Kilmongers CIA training focused on infiltrating regimes and destabilizing power structures.

There has been such a build-up to Thanos and Infinity War, I don't think AOU would influence the vast majority of movie-goers, especially since the last few movies such as BP and Thor have been so well received.

A significant piece of comic book history is saved...
Hekla replied to bronze johnny's topic in Comics General
Not publicly (I believe), but @romitaman told a story in the Original Art section of a meeting of OA collectors where the 94 cover owner had gotten a then-unheard of offer for $4000 (IIRC) and everyone thought that was a crazy-high offer. I believe late 80's/early 90's was the time frame. -
FWIW, an online/social media black nerd group my wife participates in had it's website crash this past weekend from all the BP traffic. If that energy & excitement can be translated to comics or other merch, well....

The Official Feb 22-24 Heritage Auction Thread

I think he was saying two covers sold for $760 total -
Went for second viewing (not something I usually do) this weekend and the theater was packed. On a Sunday early-afternoon. I'm amazed at the number of people who walk out as soon as the credits start. We've been 10 years into the Marvel movies... doesn't everyone know that there's more scenes?

Hope it done more thru original characters rather than retrofitting existing characters (although I'll give Moon-girl a pass as Devil Dinosaur was in dire need of an update).

Fair reasoning. Haven't read The Pride, so I'll check that out -

Thoughts on Usagi Yojimbo? Great art and writing overall, sometimes funny (especially his interactions with Gen) but sometimes sad. -
Emotionally Stimulating Modern Series List

Why? Caused anxiety? (Not being snarky). I thought the first 3 arcs or so were brilliant & great world-building, but it started to fall apart at the end (for me) -
Yes, this was lost on the white audience (myself included, until pointed out to me).

Saw the movie earlier today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The movie had a few moments that require suspension of belief, but that is pretty much a prerequisite of any superhero movie. The thing that surprised me (but in retrospect probably shouldn't have) was the inspiration from Africa itself. I'm not going to proceed in spoilers as I won't revel any movie points but I do want to add my impression on the attention to detail the movie producers and/or director made. I spent time in Kenya doing mission work and the 'street' scenes of the Wakandan city felt similar to the markets in Nairobi. The beadwork on the costumes and dances were similar to those found in certain African tribes and the dances (especially bobbing the neck) was similar to those found in the Samburu tribe... I even recognized a couple of Samburu words and I suspect they used other regional languages as well. One interesting note was that the different tribes of Wakanda were broad representations of some of the tribes in Africa (eg. the lip plates are used by several tribes, the long neck/rings around the neck are used by several tribes, the vibrant colors of cloth are for ceremonial dress and certain colors have a distinct representation for many tribes as well as the patterns on clothing, etc.). I suspect this was done since A) Wakanda is a fictional country and B) Africa is a large continent and it would be difficult to have one style without giving away exactly 'where' Wakanda 'is'; in other words - Wakanda is an amalgamation of the whole continent. As far as a larger social meaning of the movie (and also from a personal perspective), my wife is African American and my kids are mixed; they have been very, very excited about seeing a major super hero movie that represents 'them'. My wife in particular was ecstatic that black women are well represented (and dark skin black women vs. light skin black women in particular... and I know is a touchy subject for some people of color so I'm not trying to stir anything up). Afterward she said there were several scenes that were symbolic about ideas of black beauty (such as the scene of Dani throwing her wig off). I think this movie does have the potential to bring a larger audience to the superhero film genre. Hopefully Marvel (and DC) can continue to produce movies that cross (or transcend!) race and gender to increase their audience. I think Black Panther and Wonder Woman are two great examples on how to do that.

Dealers!? How do you figure out what goes in the dollar box?
Hekla replied to NoMan's topic in Comics General
Whenever I find a book that should be in a higher-priced box, a spell is automatically cast over me and I am compelled to search thru every long box. -
You never know. There's a market for DC books signed by Stan Lee so you have a chance to create a market for non-Jim Lee/Scott Williams AE's signed by Scott Williams

Dealers!? How do you figure out what goes in the dollar box?
Hekla replied to NoMan's topic in Comics General
Ed Robinson (boardie Robocard) has a 12 for $10 deal for his dollar boxes; he seems to move a lot of books this way. I'm sure he seeds his boxes as well... keeps buyers there longer if they think there's deals to be had. -
I'd heard the earlier editions had low print runs (in the range of 1000 or so) but IDW (and others) have increased the printings in recent years. Maybe someone with more direct knowledge can weigh in.

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

TBH, this movie wasn't high on my 'must see' list, but after reading reviews from last nights screening I'm pretty excited about it now.
