  1. You had it easy. My generation actually had to get out of the chair to change the channel - and we had 3 channels - one of which was French...oh...and glorious black and white.
  2. Looks like a Howard Rogofsky special...
  3. Negro Romance #4 is a bit of a weird book when you dig a bit deeper. 1. It was published almost 5 years after Fawcett published #3. 2. The entire book, save the cover, is a reprint of #2. 3. The only thing original about #4 is the cover which is drawn as opposed to the first three which were photo covers. I ask the question - why was this book even published? Anyone know any details?
  4. Your copy shows more image on the right of the photo than does the encapsulated example. It seems to show about the same at the bottom but maybe a tad less at the top. Which side(s) are you thinking were trimmed?
  5. Agreed - no way I would have let my kids read some of that - even in today's world...kids are only kids once...
  6. "Back in the 1950's, the entire US comic book business was nearly put out of business by people who said the content was inappropriate for kids." There's absolutely no doubt that some of the content was inappropriate for younger children... That being said, kids being kids would no doubt seek that out
  7. As they say "No good deed goes unpunished."
  8. The stories yes but NOT the cover. This cover does not match any of the U.S. Astonishing covers.
  9. Although they don't share the same issue numbers as the North American versions they do share the DC logo and appear to be exact reprints story wise.
  10. You should submit the details of this issue to GCD. They have a photo of the cover but not the details. A company called Chronicle Publications in the Philippines published a block of DC superhero titles in the late 50s/early 60s (Batman; Detective; Adventure; Superman; and Action Comics). As you can see, they were published for the South East Asia market and appear to be complete reprints of the North American issues. Interesting that they bear the DC logo. Does anyone know anything about this publishing arrangement? Should these be considered DC variants since they do bear the DC logo?
  11. Gorgeous Cap 3! Not only is this a "Classic Red Skull Cover" but it's also the first Red Skull cover and should have been noted as such...
  12. Gotta disagree with your comment on the All Select cover - judging by the look of it, there'll be nobody left whose name can be taken. Nice books btw.
  13. "I’m sorry 😞 if I happen to do any bidding in the future with you I will pay promptly ... unless of course I have just over spent again and then I'll need to cancel the order...again".
  14. You also risk having the book lost in transit and no amount of insurance will get it back. I don't see any "writing" on the back cover. Were you meaning the date stamp? I also love date stamps. They're a "good" part of the history of the book and provide valuable historical information. IMO they should NEVER be removed.
  15. STUNNING copy of Showcase #8. Might be the best one that I've ever seen. Extremely tough book to find in high grade.
  16. I don't have this book either and it's very pricey on the secondary market. I didn't have any of these kits as an early teen, but I do remember them in the store. I remember seeing the store display and the Giant Insect kit. I guess that we'll have to wait for someone who has the book to tell us what's in there vis - a - vis this kit...
  17. I find this summary to be poorly worded, so, as an Aurora collector myself, let's see if we can get to the bottom of this. This is the information that I have but I have no idea whether or not it's definitive. I welcome all to fill in any holes or add corrections: 1. This kit was issued in both Canada and the US. In the US, it was named "The Victim" and in Canada, it was named "Dr. Deadly's Daughter". 2. Was the Canadian version named as a direct result of US backlash over the name "The Victim"? If so, then it would imply that these versions were not released simultaneously. 3. To my knowledge, there was never a Canadian version entitled "The Victim". That being said, I have a Canadian instruction sheet that bears the title "The Victim" (no mention of "Dr. Deadly's Daughter") so that has me wondering... 4. The actual model kit in both versions is the same. 5. The Canadian version was manufactured and packaged in Canada.
  18. Yes it is and by asking that question, you're showing your age... This same kit was released in Canada under the title of "Dr. Deadly's Daughter" - very rare and sought after version...
  19. I don't read that in the description. It uses the word "original"... Someone gonna be POd.
  20. More stories with the hero that's why...
