  1. There's also a Detective 43 priced only at 15 cents.
  2. There are a number of early books in the DC line that have some copies printed with only "10 Cents" as the price and some copies (same issue) printed with the "10c" price AND "15 Cents In Canada" right below it - Detective 47 for example. I once owned a copy of WDC&S #1 that had the 10 cent price and "15 Cents In Canada" printed on the front cover. There's also a Batman #2 with only the 15 cents price on the cover.
  3. Agreed - given the choice, I'd take an October copy with no hesitation.
  4. Sorry, but that's exactly what the November copies are - 2nd printings. There was obviously a time gap in between the October and November printings. Goodman would have had to have the info that the October version sold out before deciding to do a second printing. Enough time went by that he felt he had to change the cover date so as not to have the second printing appear stale dated with an "October" cover date. Goodman didn't give a hoot about putting "second printing" in the indica or anywhere else for that matter. He just wanted the November dated book put out ASAP.
  5. Don't know what would happen with the Superman 1s or the Batman 1s but I would say that if you put an identically graded and PQ October and November Marvel 1 together, the October Marvel 1 would command a premium.
  6. I agree with kav, leave it alone - it's part of the production process and it can even lead to a great conversation when someone asks "Why are there pieces of tape on the art?" That's when you step in and wow them with your knowledge of original art.
  7. That ain't good...did they offer any sort of refund?
  8. I really enjoy hearing the story that goes along with each issue - don't slack off! Wish everyone would do that when they post.
  9. Congrats! Amazing accomplishment! Good PQ seems to be hard to find on Superboy # 1 IMO but you've certainly found it.
  10. Here's an excellent interview with Robert Bell. The only mention of the sale was to Gary Dolgoff - no mention of the Kochs. http://pristine.webspaceforme.net/Facebook/robertbell/robertbell.html
  11. Back then...I would doubt it. I'd bet that it would be that someone went looking in the company "library"/file/"archive"and discovered that that particular issue was missing...
  12. I never saw a book date stamped until I was an adult. Buying from 1 corner store back in the 60s explains that in part - that and no internet until well into adulthood might explain it too. Come to think of it, I never saw any comics date stamped at the second hand book store that I used to frequent in my early teens. I think that the first time I saw a date stamped book I assumed that it was some kid fooling around with said stamp and putting it on everything that he owned. Same goes for remainder comics. Never saw one until I was an adult...
  13. I would imagine that it was someone working wherever the comic ended up for sale be it a newsstand, smoke shop, soda shop etc etc.
  14. Nice Turoks. Issues 7-12 also come cover priced at 15 cents...
  15. Great report as usual by the Leader! The Leader should divulge where he got that wonderful shirt and at the same time realize that a belt goes around the WAIST
  16. If you're buying slabbed buy the absolutely highest grade (CGC) with the best page quality that you can find and can afford. If you only want to read them then buy the Marvel Masterworks. Note that books with the same grade are not necessarily all equal. Translated that means buy the book not the CGC grade. In fact, if you're new to the series, which it appears you may be, you may want to start with the Masterworks, see which issues you like the best and then go after the originals in high grade. Good luck!
  17. " I'm not talking about any of his Silver or bronze btw i don't see these commanding any real premiums." You're right - they shouldn't command any real premiums BUT with a collection of this magnitude and hype, there's a risk that bidders are going to get caught up in the hype and overpay just for the privilege of saying "It came from the collection of...".
  18. Incredible how this hobby has turned into a business. I venture to say that the average collector could never afford to own any of the top 20 books in NM condition.
  19. Be sure to check out the single panels done by Marge herself back in the 1930s. Some funny stuff there...
  20. I hope that the piece comes with a signature guide because there's only 2 or 3 that are actually legible...
