I join Brandon in thanking you for making more than just this book a reality in 9.8. I have also benefited from your submissions, and have at least one other super hard to find book from this set in 9.8 because you were smart enough to grab these later printings ‘back in the day.’
Looking back through this journal posting got me thinking about another OG that I haven’t seen in awhile. I want to give thinks to @bryan91 for being a real trailblazer for the Death and Return of Superman registry set. If memory serves me correctly, bryan91 was THE first to submit or collect many of these later printings for books in the registry set beyond the multiple printings of Man of Steel #18 and Superman #75.

I was looking at Iconic1s set, the descriptions and pictures are a blast. I am sure I will spend time looking at the pictures and reading the descriptions. Thank you for that.
I am at work now, I will have to go through the set book by book when I am sitting in front of my collection.
It is interesting that a lot of the covers are different from the covers that I have.
I saw what you guys were posting about people paying crazy money for these books and I got crazy excited. 😳I needed one additional book, so I went to the comic book store, and I found the book I was looking for, as well as a bunch of other books from that series. I had a meeting that I had to go to, so I was in a hurry, I ended up picking up $50 worth of Books from that series, thinking that they were worth something.
I ended up going out into my car to take that meeting. I went back into the comic book store, and the guy told me that most of my books were not worth anything. It was the second and third and newsstand copies that were worth more. It was the opposite of what I would have expected.
As you can see, I bought multiples of some of these books, hoping that someday they would be worth something. Now I am not sure what to do. I am thinking that I would sell the books as a complete set. They are all in really good shape. I was extremely careful when I read them and then they went into a box. Should I send the important ones in for grading? Which ones would those be? I have the ones in the white plastic bag in the black plastic bag from the death and rebirth of Superman. And there are a few with foil covers. should I just send in the good ones I have multiples of so that it is an entirely readable set?
I don’t mind making an investment if it makes it worth more in the end.
If I understand correctly, it is $25 to get it graded? If I send it for grading, is it in my best interest to have it pressed first? Pressing cost $10?
I followed the triangles through the rest of 1993 and pretty far into 1994. What should I do with those books?Thank you. This really is fun.
@drjimwillie Any updates?

A year or two ago, I bought a nice looking copy of Justice League America #70, 3rd printing on eBay. I had aspirations of following in @Iconic1s footsteps, who had made two 9.8 examples of this tough book through his own submissions. I was very happy for him but also, deep down inside, a little jealous.
The book arrived safely and looked beautiful. I thought I had a great candidate for pressing. A day or two later, I took a closer look and noticed a color breaking stress mark on the spine.
No way this copy would get the desired 9.8, even with a press.
Then last week, when I least expected it, a 9.8 third printing was listed on eBay, for a very reasonable price.
I now have the first, second and third printings in CGG 9.8!
I would love to try and Iconic1s footsteps by submitting a raw copy of the 4th printing to CGC, and make a 9.8. The few raw copies on eBay right now do not look good. As of this writing, he is the first and only one to be successful, it took him several tries to get the lone 9.8 on the census - the 4th printing is not an easy book.
This is my childhood copy, from a Toys “R” Us two pack. The book looks good but the spine has several color breaking stress marks.
I love checking books off this list.
For my new JLA 3rd printing, it turns out the eBay seller is YouTuber James from Mint-Hunter Comics.
At about 1:54 he mentions the JLA 70, turns out the book was only listed for about four minutes before I snagged it.
I have enjoyed watching his videos over the last few years and I’m thrilled to have a book from him.
Happy Hunting!
P.S. I have a sexy coffee table.

Here they are!
All three of these raw books only cost me $6. AC 574 was $5, I got AC 575 free because it was buy one get one free weekend (first weekend of every month) at my LCS and AC 627 was in the dollar bin. I spent $12.90 to ship the books and $45.00 on pressing. CGC applied my 2021 Registry Award credit to the rest of the invoice. With shipping and the raw prices included, my out of pocket came to $63.90, breaking down to $21.30 per book. That ain’t bad!

Sorry that happened brother
Thank you. It’s a bummer but at least it wasn’t a really expensive book.

Scratch that.
Why?! Am I crazy?!
When I opened the package from CGC I smiled, I was so happy with the contents, four 9.8 examples of beautiful books. Later on I examined the books again and noticed the top staple.
There was a small tear, it was not there when I submitted the book. I took before photos on this one.
Not cool.
It stinks but it’s not the end of the world. I may have lost money on the pressing fee but I had a grading credit still, and the book was only $3.00, not worth bringing up to CGC. The damage may have occurred during pressing, or came about from shaken comic syndrome. I thought about this on and off for a few weeks and decided to crack the book out. I also couldn’t in good conscience sell this book in its holder on eBay.
Life goes on.
I have a few labels to return to CGC some day.

I forgot to mention it, but two really big ones were added to the collection a few months back.
These illusive second printings were gifts from a great friend. I’m still floored by this amazing gesture. I still have a ways to go on the multiple printings, and most of the ones I still need are very hard to find and most likely will be very expensive if they come up for sale! Crossing these two additions off the list was a huge boost to my set.
