  1. Sunday (today) is a 'picking' day for me at my local Swap Meet. I accidentally slept in by 25 minutes as I usually arrive there shortly after 6. Wifey and I hit the usual lady who brings in her home picked oranges (fresh OJ and all), and then I was off. I went through the first time quickly, then I slowed it down. In the second row corner, a spot I had ignored the first time around, there was a woman selling stuff, and as I got closer I saw a buyer holding up what looked to be original comic art. It was. He patiently waited to ask how much it was, and I circled close, wondering if he was going to buy it. When she announced she wanted $25 for the two pages and a 'Revenge of the Creature' original movie lobby card (sans Creature, but still cool), I thought that was that. Obviously it was too much for him, and without making an offer, he set the grouping down. I sprang around the corner like a hobbled ninja, and asked her the same question, already knowing the answer, and she gave me the same reply. She knew that they were actual original art pages and we chatted for a few moments and I happily gave her the amount she asked for. She mentioned that several other folks had looked at them before me, but apparently no one was interested. She was glad I was happy...and I was. I don't have any Irv Novick in my collection, and now I do. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes, a comic / art collector gets lucky. Art by Irv Novick and Frank McLaughlin from DC Comics Presents and they are consecutive battle pages (18 and 19) where they defeat the alien octopus (should I have given a spoiler warning there?)
  2. Agreed. Great choice and my number one choice as well.
  3. Thank you Mike for all of the hard work. As always this contest is a lot of fun. Thanks for CGC for sponsoring it. Congratulations to the finalists. Good Luck.
  4. I had a good time and filled in a spot on my want list (sorry about the camera glare). Good to see (and hang out with) my good friend @Dr. Lovewho introduced me to @Robot Man Saw a bunch of the San Diego guys, hung out with friends, spent time with Scott Shaw!, had a chance to kick some boxes, find a few (more) comics...an overall great time. Glad that the show is back.
  5. Archie Comics occasionally recycled their pin up pages. The biggest reprint (that I know of) of the early pin-ups featuring B&V are in Betty & Veronica Spectacular # 26. It's a giant size comic and every page is a pin-up page and most of them feature B&V. That's a 'must have' for all B&V fans and DeCarlo's pin-up pages in general.
  6. I'll be there with a half dozen of my fellow San Diego comic book collectors.
  7. I'll take the Jim # 110 for half off sticker $65 and the Justice Traps the Guilty # 11 half off sticker $38
  8. Fortunately for me, I purchased my 4 and my 6 in the 90's, so I'm not on the prowl. If I had to make a choice of one over the other...I would pick the 4.
  9. Merry Christmas fellow Boardies. From my family to yours, Kirby, Keno and I want to thank you for all the fun and good time chatter that you have shared this year. David
  10. These are exquisite indeed Dr. Love. Since this complete story by romance artist extraordinaire Vince Colletta belongs to you, I'll try to hide my envy at such an original art find. Beautiful in every way possible.
  11. I managed to fill a couple of holes in my Simon / Kirby romance comic collection as well as some Jumbo (Fiction House) Comics. I didn't pick up as much Original Art as in years past. Prices multiplying on OA leaned me back to comics...not a bad thing. But the three OA pieces I did get were special to me, so here they are. The Little Dot # 2 splash is actually from a complete story (I'll spare you all the other pages). I love Harvey Comics (pretty much all titles) and am always on the lookout to get a complete story. This checked the Harvey OA box for me. This Jim Mooney Supergirl scratched an itch I've had for awhile. Supergirl is featured in nearly every panel and it's pure Mooney. Supergirl flying, going back through time and reading microfilm with her telescopic vision, hit all the buttons. I can rest easy on that personal Supergirl / Mooney piece I've wanted for a while now. Yay! Last but not least was this early Curt Swan / Bruno Premiani Superboy from Adventure comics # 208. I had been looking at it on a OA dealers website for awhile, but I prefer to purchase OA in person (if possible). The opportunity came at SDCC this year. It's so wonky mid 50's DC...it was a must have. Have a great day and rest of the year fellow boardies!
  12. Most every piece I own was purchased with premeditation. I have probably overpaid on multiple occasions, but I wanted whatever the piece was and I can't blame the artwork (or the seller) for what I paid. Like others have said before my reply...most of the pieces I purchased have risen in monetary value far beyond what I originally paid for them. I have paid under value for a lot of pieces as well. It's a balancing act that has evened out over the years. I may have overpaid on a certain piece that I really wanted. It wasn't the money, but the seller also wanted two pieces from my personal collection as well as cash (it was a calculated squeeze play). Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice for something you really want. I imagine the one I now own has a value that is multiples over what I paid for it including the two included in the sale, but the value doesn't really matter to me. I would suspect this happens frequently to those who purchase art for the piece and not for the investment. I still feel a little sting from not owning the two pieces I sacrificed for the one I really wanted, but when I look at the piece I own...the joy opens up in my heart. If you're even remotely curious to 'the piece' I reference...just look to my avatar.
  13. I've posted about 1/2 of my stuff (right now, that's about 350 plus pieces). I've thought about doing the other 1/2 and I might do that sometime when I have nothing else better to do. I don't do very many big (expensive) things these days, although if the right piece came around that wasn't priced out of current FMV, I might pull the trigger. I post for me. Like Andahaion, I do it for record keeping and easy access viewing. Most of my collection doesn't garner many views, but I'm perfectly okay with that. I like what I like and choose more for the artist than for the character. I like OA because at one point of time, the artist held the piece in their hand and put pencil to paper. That's the true excitement and joy for me. I don't worry about keeping things private, but I understand why others do.
  14. I really enjoy and appreciate the site. I did fill out the very short but concise survey. Thanks Nico, what a service this provides.
  15. A friend picked this up from a yard sale (of all places) this weekend. I guess you never know what you're going to find out there. Barry Blair Team Nippon # 3 Cover from Aircel Comics. Kinda cool.
  16. I appreciate and want to thank Mike for all the work he puts in on these contests. Thank you.
  17. I can understand you choosing not to purchase from My Comic Shop on eBay. However, let's put the numbers into perspective. During the time they accrued the 23 negatives and the 43 neutral feedbacks.... they also had 53,210 positives for a total of 53,281 sales on eBay where folks posted feedback during the same time period. That works out to be .0009 percent of feedback that is neutral and .0004 percent of feedback that is negative. I personally have had nothing but good experiences on MCS, but that has been my good fortune. I would also like to mention that if you purchase the same comic on their website as opposed to eBay, the comic costs less than what it is being sold for on eBay. Much like @Lightning55I highly recommend them, but I buy direct from them...and not through eBay. Like you, I won't purchase a comic that doesn't show the actual image of what you are buying.
  18. And lastly, a group shot with Diana and a couple friends of hers by the equally wonderful Ramona Fradon.
  19. Being more artist centric than character centric, I find it surprising that I don't have very many OA pages featuring the Amazon princess (of which I am a fan). Here are the two that I own. Looking forward to seeing what you guys post.
