  1. DeCarlo + Betty and Veronica + Bikinis = The two below are two of my favorites (mostly because they're mine). I might add that IMHO Dan's best work regarding B&V were done twice up. Usually there is a premium for that even for non bikini B&V. Sorry if I contributed in steering the conversation away from modern OA. Some of that is great too, just not my jam (which leaves it for others)
  2. I received mine today (I ordered through Vanguard). I got the slipcased version so it has the bonus pages. Looking forward to looking through it, but am happy that the slip case is much like previous Vanguard Frazetta slip cases, a quality product. I loved the Fantastic Paintings but the slip case on that one was somewhat flimsy (of course that might be because the book is larger). This one is the same size as the other Frazetta slipcase editions published previously by Vanguard. Yeah, I'm happy with it.
  3. I watched it yesterday and found it entertaining. In my much younger years I bought off the stands the Morbius Spidey issues # 101 and #102. The multi-limbed Spider-Man did nothing for me and I found Morbius to be 'okay'. I never followed Morbius in any of his later appearances, so watching the movie yesterday I was able to disassociate myself from the comics character and just appreciate the movie. I have no opinion one way or the other on the main actor, but I found his performance credible. It was fun.
  4. It's a great book. I don't think you paid too much. I would have paid that for the reasons you list. The Bat-Hound rocks!
  5. Wonderful book...one that I've been on the lookout for some time. Congratulations on the find. In the most recent Jack Kirby Collector (Spring 2022) on Page 3 of John Morrow's 'Opening Shot' he actually asks if there is anyone that has a copy of the book that TwoMorrows can scan. Not that you needed more proof on how tough the book is.
  6. I've had a blast. Decent first and second round, and then the crash and burn third round. Hopefully I can regain a moderate amount of dignity (probably not) in the fourth round. Either way, it's been a lot of fun. Certainly one of the things on the forum I look forward to. A BIG thank you to Mike for all the work he's done (and will do).
  7. Good luck to you BabaLament in all of your future endeavors.
  8. SDCC was fun for me (again) this year. Since I spend all of my time (and money) with the OA and Comic sellers (Silver and Gold Pavillion) in their respective areas (I don't bother going where the other stuff is) I didn't have much to deal with regarding crowds. I was able to check off 10 Fiction House Jumbo's (I have about 11 to go to finish the run between # 69 - 129) and picked up a couple of OA pages plus two other unexpected cool Sunday strips (a Gus Arriola Gordo and a Walt Kelly Pogo). I kicked a lot of boxes, got some misc. comics, said hello to a lot of friends I have missed over the last couple of years (even had a fun chat with the charming Mr. Bedrock). It does make it easy because I'm a local guy, so there's that. Since I know it doesn't exist unless there are pictures...here is one. Looking forward to next year.
  9. Looking forward to this. Gonna load up the van with my friends and off we will go. Hurrah!
  10. I like Jesse Marsh. Different art speaks to different folks for all kinds of reasons. I am a comics / comic book fan and I have a humble OA collection. One of the greatest things about OA for me is that for that brief moment in time the creator of the art was focused on creating the page. If I like the artist, I would always like to have a representative example of his / her work. To have a piece of comic book / comic art history that the creator of the art actually had their hand on...to me, that is special. Sign me up for any available JM page.
  11. I'd pick the one with the tear that presents better all day long. Reason for me is that it has one 'issue' and the other has multiple smaller ones.
  12. David Kraft - Story / Mike Vosburg and Frank Springer - Art Page picture below
  13. Greatness personified. He changed the direction of comics and did so much for creators across the board. A true comic book hero. So much to say, but for now...R.I.P.
  14. Picked this up last weekend at the San Diego Comic Fest. It's not my usual thing, but it has Red Skull vs Kingpin and that alone was really cool. I think I did okay, way within the Morlock decorating guide. Pencils by Lim and inks by Bulanadi from Captain America 378 and the Streets of Poison storyline.
  15. I'm going to post two pics here... Jo-Jo Congo King. This particular copy purchased from former San Diego Comic Con dealer room facilitator Tom French in the late 80's or early 90's for $40. This was the comic that sent me down that rabbit hole of collecting GGA Fox Comics and is one of my favorite Jack Kamen covers of all time. Mountain of Skulls (and the interior is very cool as well). I don't know what a decent copy goes for these days. No need to look, as this copy is good enough for me, brings back good memories of Tom, and all that hunting ever since I bought it. This is a recent acquisition, although I have been a Simon and Kirby fan for decades, and a Boy's Ranch fan as well. Boy's Ranch is my favorite comic book western series and the stories and art are always a joy to behold. I don't know why it took me so long to add the #1 (in decent shape) to my collection. Still looking for a 3, 5 and a 6 (hmmm...)
  16. Found this at the local Swap Meet this morning. While the average grade is GVG there's some that are better and some that are...well...ugh (it's what happens when you buy the group and they quote you 25 bucks). Love the Christmas at Shacktown, the Trick or Treat and the Scrooges # 9 and # 11 which are in decent shape. Four Color fun. Yay!
  17. The OP asked: Is Mister Miracle worth a Kirby collectors notice? My answer would be yes although, I agree with @KirbyJack on both his 4th World preferences in that order (New Gods, Mister Miracle). Quite frankly Mister Miracle could be a future show or movie someday (if that's your jam). Having full runs of all the fourth world stuff is cool and honestly still affordable on many levels. Twomorrows Publishings recent book, Old Gods and New provides incredible detail on what was going on with the series, Kirby and DC when it was being published. It is a must read for every Kirby-phile that really wants to delve into possibly Kirby's greatest 70's creation. That being said, there is not much Kirby that I don't like, although I have my preferences, so I may have a strong bias. My avatar may be an indication of that. Below is a recreation of Big Barda I had Mike Royer do for me in the early 2000's.
