  4. Thanks, Danny! On the Shock #6, I actually "downgraded" into a 7.5 Don & Maggie Thompson pedigree copy (I like pedigrees) - NFS . I accumulated a few copies before I decided I only needed one . Now I'm just down to the Don & Maggie and the 9.0:
  5. Correct! Alternatively, if you define the "first E.C." as the first book to feature the EC brand on the cover, that would be Picture Stories from American History #1

  7. Hello all, I have some EC undercopies for your consideration. Here's a link to my KUDOS THREAD The No PL/HOS members; The first "take it" posted in the thread wins (whether a straight thread take it, or a "take it via PM" if we reached a deal via PM). If you want to remain anonymous by purchasing via PM, this means there will be some risk of losing a book if someone posts a "take it" in the thread before I can mark the book SOLD based on your PM. Having said that, I'll mark books SOLD as soon as reasonably possible. If I put a book ON HOLD, that book is not available for purchase until it comes back off HOLD Payment I'll take PayPal, personal checks, or USPS money orders; I'll expect payment within 10 calendar days, or the deal is off (unless we've made other payment arrangements) I'll gladly consider longer-term time payments, but PM me to discuss terms before taking a book if you need that. Shipping Terms USA: - Shipping via USPS priority or registered mail: I'll charge you what USPS will charge me (which depends on how far away from Salt Lake City you are ); International Destinations - Because I have some higher-dollar books listed here, before finalizing the deal we'll need to check into insurance availability - if there isn't an insurance option that I'm comfortable with in terms of shipping to your country, I reserve the right to decline the sale; if we go forward, I'll charge you what USPS will charge me (we'll figure which is cheaper - first class or priority mail international - that'll depend on package value and destination)...PM me and I can put books on hold while we figure it out (Hey...at least this is better than me just straight-up saying "I won't ship international", right? ) Returns/Refunds I will accept returns for a refund for any reason within two weeks of your receipt of the books, as long as the books are returned to me as they were when you received them. Because these are slabs, if you want to return them, shipping both ways is on you (unless I screwed something up). Thanks for looking! Ed
  8. The easiest thing to do is click the "Mark as Sold" green button you see up at the top of your first post (only you can see that). That doesn't really necessarily mean they sold...it just closes and locks the thread.
  9. The community here long ago decided to make that one of our marketplace "rules" - it has been debated over the years, but it still stands as one of our rules. I think one component of the logic goes something like this - if someone posts a 'take it' on a book listed for sale here, we all basically consider that to be a binding transaction...but what if one minute after someone here takes the book, an eBay seller buys it - now you are obligated by eBay to sell the book to the eBay buyer, and the buyer here who you have implicitly sold the book to by virtue of their 'take it' gets shafted, etc., etc. Basically, when we decide to sell books here, we pull them down from everywhere else to give the boards a shot...if there are no takers here after some time period that you determine, close the thread here and re-list them elsewhere.
  10. Yep - that issue (along with several other issues across a few different titles that came out around the same time - for example, Weird Science 18) seems to be plagued by a very unstable batch of red ink. I haven't heard a definitive answer on what's going on - i.e., did Gaines temporarily switch printing companies, did his existing printer just buy a batch of bad ink, etc... . Aside from the fading in "Science", one of the things I look at is the shirt of that astronaut in the bottom left corner - his shirt is supposed to be bright red . If anyone ever finds a copy where his shirt is bright red, sell it to me (I've seen a few out there...strangely, they're mostly lower grade copies). The pedigree copies aren't immune to this problem - here come two scans. The Gaines File Copy used to be mine, but I "downgraded" into the White Mountain because I liked the colors better...it still has that problem, though:
  11. I agree with you @Hap Hazard. The only ones I've seen are obscure 3-D issues. I think that Bill had a few of these assorted comics kicking around his offices/vaults that he likely used for reference material. They clearly weren't Gaines File Copies of his own publications, so whoever discovered them (Russ Cochran/Bob Overstreet, perhaps?) just hung this label on them at some point. I'm not aware of any sizeable "personal collection" of comics that he had...I don't think that's a thing.
  12. Thanks. Yeah that drives me crazy...an EC publication from 3 years before EC even existed as a company. Although to be somewhat fair, Max Gaines trademarked "Educational Comics" in May, 1941...he just didn't use it until he started EC in 1945...
  13. Thanks. Yeah that drives me crazy...an EC publication from 3 years before EC even existed as a company.
