  1. I wonder if the subterfuge is to protect a consignor that purchased the collection outright from the original owners. Would seem like they could face some blowback, given the amounts being realized here. Possibly even a lawsuit for not paying enough for it. All speculation of course. But you know HA is making several million (at least) on this from fees, and then CGC probably half a million plus in grading fees. I really hope the family is seeing most of this money. Or they are working with a consignor to split the profits, as they would of course be due something for helping to make a connection to sell it in this way to maximize value.
  2. Got this first one recently. Don't think I've seen it posted yet. Great purple background. And then the pink cover, has to be one of the more outlandish cover color choices ever. But effective, on what is otherwise a somewhat terrifying monster coverage featuring a bound damsel in distress. I dig them both.
  3. Amazing stuff so far! Here are 5 that I really dig. Nigh impossible to pick favorites! Ok make it 6...
  4. Woah. Those are some serious Planets! Jupiter ain't got nothing on these!
  5. Just picked up this issue with a great Patenaude cover. A bit rough but I still love it!
  6. Yes. And if you slab, how will you see that great Baker art inside (and show your friends)?
  7. Yeah I think it is more than we think sun related but not a blanket statement. Issues like Planet 13, 17, 18, 21 come to mind as ones with large variations in the color that I suspect are beyond just the sun causing the changes.
  8. Found this one at C2E2. Partially bought it to share here, due to the interesting color changes where the corner was folded over. Pretty clear that the faded cover is due to sun fading, since the folded corner still looks bright and vibrant. Does this mean most fading/color changes of FH books was sun related? This has me leaning that way.
  9. Picked this up at C2E2 last weekend. Can't recall seeing this one before but I really like it.
  10. I bought a lot on Heritage of 3 Flanagan Adventure covers, front cover only. All three have Flanagan written on them, no idea why. Literally like one week later a coverless 36 popped up on eBay and presto! But if I had to guess I would say an older generation collector with more familiarity with his career as a pulp artist bought those issues and razored the covers off and stuck them in a file or something along those lines. If you were a reader of a lot of contemporary fiction in the 1930s, it is likely Flanagan was more recognizable, especially given his Fu Manchu work in Colliers, a magazine with several million regular readers.
  11. A lot of great stuff so far. Here are some of my favorites from this year. The Flessel art is a recent pickup for me that I am very excited to have.
  12. I asked about this a few years back when I got a couple early Jumbos and never got much of a response. Aside from a few people seeing one or two of the later issues, I have not seen or heard of anyone who has run across one of the issues that were supposedly reprinted in the early Jumbo Comics.
  13. Congrats on the Fight 5 Ivan! One of my favorite covers in the run as well. Almost feels like Victor Fox got ahold of this one, you'd expect it on Science or Weird. Also forgot my other FH pedigree last night. Indians Okajima. I wish I had a war era camp copy, but this is still one of my favorite things that I own. And I hope I can pick up a FH Church copy at some point. Oh and the Jumbo 10s! Literally at the top of my FH want list. Such a great cover! Love those early Jumbos.
  14. Had to wade down 8 pages to find this thread. But had a nice mail call yesterday. Don't get one of these too often and this is an upgrade but very happy with it. One of the best Spectre covers, IMO.
  15. Here is a spread of my Fiction House #1s. I really love so many of these! Still needing Jungle and Man O'Mars though... Please note I display my Jumbo 1 in reverse since the covers are the same and the back of mine looks nicer.
  16. Just arrived this week and I am pretty excited to add it to the collection!
  17. Major kudos to Electron on the FH scores and comicnoir on the Rangers 14! I think they need to add a "drool" button on the likes for things like this! Just got this recently to add another FH #1 issue. Need to do a group shot at some point, still searching for that Jungle 1!
  18. Was in Chicago for the weekend and took a break from the pulp fest to go see the Marvel exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry. There were many gasp inducing items including a Marvel 1 and so many pages of original art but this was a real highlight for me to see an original Schomburg cover in person. I had read that HT 16 was one of the only Timely pieces left, are there any others? The detail up close was really something to see. And I guess I will add the original Everett page from Marvel 1, since it was right next to the Schomburg. We were guessing what some of the pieces would go for, I don't know where to even start with these.
