  1. This thread has been too quiet.... What do you think of the prices Ted saw on his books last night? Archie 4 (1.0) - $283 Archie 5 (3.0) - $1,025 Archie 7 (3.0) - $1,175 Archie 9 (6.0) - $3,201 Archie 11 (8.5) - $3,053 (I know this is outside our group but...) Archie 6 (3.5) and Archie 10 (6.0) on the block now ... any guesses? While we're at it there is a restored Archie 5 (6.0) for $1,600 on the Bay, there's an Archie 1 (2.5) on CC for 7K-ish, there's a 2,5,6,7,8 and 10 about to open on CL, and HA has a 1,2,8 and 50 underway. On a personal note I'm very interested to see what the Archie Annual 1 (7.5) will go for ... Already up to approx $4200 with the BP. Talk to me!
  2. Interesting end to Ted's auctions last night. Some solid prices for early Archies and so-so for some of the Peps issues. I'm in Amsterdam on business and set an alarm for 2am to watch them close for two hours. I got the Laugh 22 I was after …anyone else snag anything?
  3. Agreed! Great guy, always fun to see him at shows and always fun to deal with!
  4. Original owner. Found in a storage bin in a big plastic tub. Ted selectively slabbed. Just when I thought stories like that didn't exist anymore...
  5. You know… I have every single one of those books, but seeing them all together like that makes me want to take a cold shower.
  6. FYI, following this post and a closer look at the picture, the booger was successfully removed from Archer's nose.
  7. Ok, I have to share ... I couldn't help myself. Just felt the best place for it was with me. Big thanks to Ross, Greg and Adam for making this happen. Oh and here's proof of life.
  8. Good god, you sound like my mother and my wife. Everything is cyclical buddy.... hankuna matata, and all that stuff. I have yet to see any signs of a weakening market for early Archies ... as a matter of fact I have been impressed with how strong the market has been. I think when there is a string of early Archie books for sale in the same number range you see slightly lower prices than you would if people were fighting over the books, but in general the prices for 2-10 and certainly of 50 seem to be on the rise. Of course, you're right, Pep 22 (which I will never own since Adam never emailed me back) and Archie 1 will always be the most sought after but 2-10 will always be strong sellers. This is all one man's opinion of course, and a collector at that, so I might have a different view if I was actively selling and trying to turn a profit. (I seem to be a fan of the letter S)
  9. Tonight's topic: Archie 3 (7.0 Universal) $4,000 and Archie 50 (7.0 Universal) $1,200 on CL's auction. Thoughts on these prices? High? Low? Any of this crew get one of them?
  10. Good god Steve! I mean, I have them all but damn... That's a sick set!
  11. You mean any future little brothers or sisters will get skunked? Seriously, a major Hmmm, didn't think of that. Let's just say he'll be the overseer of the collection once I shove off. The kid's name is Archer and everyone is already calling him Archie ... it only seems fair that he gets first dibs.
  12. I am so jealous of this one! I think Suzie is cheating on me nice books! They are all nice books, but this one is by far the prize!
  13. I think all of the prices were great. I would've liked to of seen the 8.0 go higher of course, but in general it still shows how strong the Archie 1 market is. Too bad we can't get it up to that Action 1 price. :-)
  14. Well this certainly qualifies as a favorite ... now that it's mine!
  15. Realizing it's been a while since I posted ... been a bit distracted. Here are my favorite two new additions. The smile on this little gem (aside from the beautiful women he is staring at) is because he is the future owner of my entire collection which now includes this other little gem. Shout out to LBJeffries who was kind enough to sell me his entire high grade Juggie collection, including this magnificent Church copy.
  16. I'm with ya. That was my MO reference (Make Offer). Point is the same, the buyers will set the price now. Looking forward to seeing the outcome.
  17. Well dude, I hope it all goes your way. You've put the time in and certainly have the energy. Plus it will finally put an end to the long debates we all had over its value when you put in on eBay for 200k with a BIN and MO. Good luck!
  18. You should've sold me that pep 22, then you would've never had to see it sell again. I do think that key issues with first appearances aside from just Archie are fairly well documented. Pep #22, Pep #26, Wilbur #5, Archie's Pals and Gals #23, Madhouse #22, and so on ... as are covers like Pep #36, Jackpot #4, and stories like the first love triangle, etc. Is there room for more, of course. I think you should float the idea of recognizing the first appearance of the whole gang. MagicM's got the procedure down by now! We should also try to figure out which issue contains the first appearance of Jughead with a burger and Reggie getting his kicked by Moose. As for whether all of these firsts are priced as they should be, these days it's such a moving target, who knows.
  19. Been meaning to chime in ... Nice work on getting things corrected with CGC and Overstreet on the 23. Might just send mine in for a slab now! I must say I'm excited for next month's auction to begin. Can't wait to have some current metrics for what a universal and a restored Pep 22 go for (in their respective conditions), Pep 23 as well. They haven't been as prevalent on the auction block as Archie 1's as of late, and it'll be good to cut through all the speculation and see where the market sets the price.
  20. I know, I was just kidding. I just thought it was an interesting lot to slab ... regardless, very nice books. Congrats on the purchase!
