  1. What's the deal Todd? Got your eye on a key or did the bookies finally catch up to ya?
  2. Nothing too special to report, but I did grab the last two Ginger issues I needed on the Clink auction last night. $46 combined, and great slabbed place holders till I upgrade.
  3. Wow great looking copy! I have the same one, un-slabbed .... just need to reverse the grade approximately (0.7)
  4. Unfortunately not. Well thanks for sharing. That picture is insane! Congrats on the purchase.
  5. 7.0 Nice! Any other MLJs floating around in there?
  6. Any Pre-Robins? Any Timelys? Just what is visible in the photo...a couple of All Winners, a Cap, a couple of Subbies, one Marvel Mystery and one Torch. Clearly not an attic find, but that's a damn fine looking set o' books! Whats that Pep 10 graded at in the background?
  7. I did not. I had all of the TNs on the block. I was considering the 37 as an upgrade, but decided I'd already spent enough money on the Hangman 5. I did stay up and watch them end though. Actually, if I hadn't I would have missed the Archie 2 go up on eBay.
  8. Thanks man. Glad to finally have a copy. I think I am giving up on the whole "slow down the buying" bit. Picked up a coverless Archie 2 last night as well.
  9. Keeping within the Hangman vein, and proving that I clearly have no idea what the term sabbatical means, here is one of last night's purchases. I have always loved this cover and needed the book to complete my Hangman run. While it's not as nice as the one Shield kicked this thread off with back in the day, I think it's an awesome looking copy. My guess is the detachment hurt the grade, cause aside from the bottom left corner I think it presents beautifully.
  10. Not sure if I made a good choice or a bad one last night, but this thread needs a so I'll share. A coin dealer posted a complete but coverless old Archie on eBay. He thought it might be Archie #15, and started the bidding at 10 bucks. I emailed him, and (cause I'm an upstanding kinda guy) told him that it was in fact a coverless copy of Archie #2. I then asked what it would take to end the auction and sell the book to me. We went back and forth on some pricing and finally sealed the deal. Truth is, even with the decent amount of Archie knowledge I possess, I have no idea what a coverless Archie 2 would go for. The book has a spine roll, and a loose inner wrap, but all in all looked like a nice interior. Who knows, maybe I just set the price. All I can say with confidence is that I know I would have paid a lot more for a #1 and not as much for a #3. Time will tell. If anyone sees a cover lying around PM me.
  11. I know that I am late to the game here Bob, but I wanted to say welcome and congratulations on a fantastic collection. It was a real treat to peruse. I particularly enjoyed this picture as I have both of those Shield G-man pins, but never seen the card that went with them. Thanks for sharing! (thumbs u
  12. Agreed it's a great looking copy, and I was including Gino in my reply, he grabbed some great looking low-grade gold. I've been thinking about a short sabbatical myself. I thought I'd slow down when Archer was born but 2014 was a big buying year. Unless something special comes along (always leave myself an out), I'm gonna focus on preparing for what is sure to be a brutal 4/15 even with my giggly new write off.
  13. Just finished browsing all 181 pages, and have to commend you on some impressive snags from dale's thread guys! I love that TN 24. Too bad about the resto... what a great looking book!
  14. Here's a book that needs to be featured on this thread. I wish I could say it was mine. That said, I'm not sure if the collector who drops 15k with Metro to make it theirs will post it, so... Here's an advanced to its next owner.
  15. Looks amazingly like my unrestored copy. Detached cover. Same PQ. I actually think it's a really fair price. If I wasn't saving my money and for one of Adam's other books I'd consider making this one #3.
  16. What did the BR#14 go for? And I know it's not necessarily a killer cover, but it was a copy I was missing in my collection. Guess I forgot to mention the high bidder was me.
  17. I've always enjoyed the Life with Archie covers. Nice book! BTW, did you guys see that Fine copy of BR#1 just end on eBay. $406. Nice looking book, great price. Thoughts?
  18. She's seen better days but she's all mine... Does anyone have the 800 number for Collectors Anonymous? I developed quite the habit over the last 30+ years.
  19. Great snag on the Laugh 20 Steve, glad you got it. I was able to get my hands on the two copies I was looking for as well. And just cause I didn't post it on this thread before, and because ... well, because!
  20. It certainly has the look of a listing from a hijacked account. Kind of an odd book to use for that purpose though. Agreed. Not sure what to think. Never seen the book before, hate zero feedback, and the history is suspect for sure. But where was the book hijacked from? I've never even seen the 4.0 on the block. N.B. I should have said 0% positive feedback, not zero feedback. You know what I mean. Has anybody reached out?
  21. How about some thoughts from yesterday's HA auction? Archie 1 and the Archie 2 sold for less than I thought they would, particularly the 2. The Pals & Gals 1 and Archie Annual 1 both brought some strong prices. The biggest surprises in my mind were the stunningly low-prices that the pep comics brought. The pep 1 and the pep 36 both went too low. Even the peps with slightly brittle pages didn't go for that much. Obviously I'm not including the star of the show, the pep 22, which brought an amazing price, I'm just saying that I think the others didn't reach their full potential. So what do you think? Anybody get anything?
  22. Some interesting prices on HA yesterday. That Archie 1 (3.0) actually went for a little less than I thought it would. That Archie 2 (2.0) was a steal, I hope one of you got it. I wonder if Todd's observation about the upcoming 2.5, looking the way it does, took some of the interest way from the 3.0. I was of course very pleased to see what that Archie Annual 1 sold for.
  23. Congrats on the pic up. I wanted to participate in Teds auction, but I've got my eye on three items in HA's event this week, so saving it all for possible wins there. I did manage to snag an early Blue Ribbon (no 6, Charlie Chaplin cover menaced by axe weilding green hooded men) last week on eBay. I'm watching HA pretty closely too, not buying but I'm really curious to know what that Archie Annual #1 (7.5) will go for. Oh and yeah... that ratty old universal Pep 22 (7.0)
