  1. I grab any 83-88 indie whenever I see it in NM/1st print on the bay. That includes Nexus b&w, fish police, samurai, adventurers, spaced, quadrant.. I've amassed a short box of those through the years and am yet to break a $100 total on them all
  2. Can't really see clearly on the phone but wonder what makes it a 7.5? Is it pressable? either way congrats on the win!
  3. I'd be interested to know how many dealers/publishers partook in that activity. I know that Adventure had a deal with someone re Adventurers #1 that was later exposed and I'm sure many others did too. Nowadays everything shifted to eBay on a much much smaller scale but the roots of pumping n dumping were in the those mid-late 80s years
  4. I agree, that is the only thing I take from this whole TWDM fiasco. Someone with a reputable history on eBay took advantage of others. BTW there are 2 sellers involved in this. The raw copies were sold by nesman2014 and the graded ones were by wonder_tunes_comics Im sure theyll NEVER own up to their wrong doing and sadly never see trial. There are hundreds of con artists on eBay selling counterfeit memorabilia items with reputation to boot and they hardly ever get caught
  5. Yup I agree.. esp bats 511. That is a shocker. Why?? I doubt youd even get any bites on a reg version or even newsstand for that matter @30 per issue of any of these
  6. Never mind, I just saw the pics from the listings. This definitely is a scam; The shell is not made from the same material used in other museum books, the interior does not have the original cover, which ALL museum editions carry. Scam. and wow, this is scary sh**t
  7. A museum edition is usually a branded variant which takes the original comic and marries it with a canvas like shell. Image actually were involved with producing these variants in the early 2000s. I personally owned a Wu-Tang Museum edition which was also limited to 50, made by Image. Here is another one from them https://www.ebay.com/itm/IMAGE-COMICS-ATHENA-INC-THE-MANHUNTER-PROJECT-MUSEUM-EDITION-10-of-50-RARE/381921039462?epid=2133357824&hash=item58ec449466:g:HtYAAOSwEzxYdsxo
  8. Not to dispute any of the charges, but, do we know what the book looks like in the interior? Usually museum editions have the original comic plus the museum shell. Would be curious to know
  9. McFarlane books. I think that McFarlane is slowly becoming the most popular figure in comic books (and toys for that matter). I think that when (sadly) Stan will be gone, Todd will be his successor. He is already worth more than Stan and his books are experiencing a boost in value and I dont think its because of movie hype. If you're an aggressive speculator youd go after the usual suspects. But I would also seek smaller keys
  10. Did I already mention I loooove copper books? The Adventurers #1 (1986, Adventure Publications) VF
  11. PUMA BLUES 24.5 24 1/2 Mini Comic MICHAEL ZULLI Stephen Murphy 1989 NM Awesome book.. for those who never read it, get the TPB, cause I doubt youll ever be able to find a copy of this rare final issue. This is the second print, but thats absolutely fine with me
  12. Nothing earth shattering, but some really really really cool items I got on the cheap just to keep: Marvel Comics Collector's Cases pack of 5 Unopened!! Can you believe how cool this is?? Being a huge Copper fan this is perfect for me to put all my Art Adams books and others... And you get 5 of these???? I just couldnt resist.. But now that I received it, I dont wanna open the damn thing Earth X Limited Hardcover Edition Comic (SIGNED & Numbered, Graphitti Designs) This book is a BEAUTY! even more amazing to see one in person. I saw one at my LCS years back and fell in love with it.. so Ive been sniping on them ever since, the problem is that some of them are not signed, and some have a cracked shell, or missing CD or simply in bad shape.. This one is PERFECT! Glad I got it for the price I did
  13. Well how ironic is it that the printing error defect is the one that promoted collectibility some 27 years later
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if the negative upc was a better set or maybe the newsstand set.. I mean what are the odds that ALL variations of this book had an equal defect rate at the printing stage. But I doubt they were printed after the fact
  15. The 2nd print was the gold edition (I can't believe I even ordered it back then):
  16. Well, no there is a gold edition 2nd print. But the fact that Marvel went ahead and issued a 2nd print IMMEDIATELY was, as chuck guessed, to remedy the printing defect problem which damaged most of these copies. Especially since they werent able to replace them with current stock as he writes here:
  17. As a rule of thumb I ALWAYS buy books which price varies widely. Warrior magazine is one of those examples. It ranges between $40-175 for a raw VF copy. If the price fluctuation is consistent with said book, to me it indicates that there is interest, but no hype. Great time to buy when you find cheap and stock up till the hype wave hits. It almost always does. I did the same with Spawn 1, Punisher 1 (1st on going) and others whenever I found them for 2-3$ in NM years ago Other books which show potential are Web Of Spider Man 1 Ghost Rider 1 (actually getting more difficult to find a NM copy of those two under 5), Spider-Man Unlimited 1, Punisher War Journal 1
  18. While reviewing some of Chuck's newsletters from back in the day for my GUTS & GLORY Journal I came across an explanation from Chuck to what actually happened with X-Force #1 This was a HUGE deal back then, but it appears that the majority of collectors back than could care less, especially since the grading system has not yet been implemented obviously. Could you imagine the uproar if this were to happen today??? Also, interesting that a month later X-Force #1 2nd print was solicited
  19. In this newsletter Chuck took his spec column to a whole new level. He was confident in his speculating skills more than ever. This makes a great introductory to what actually happened with comic speculating in its infant years: This "magic" that got Chuck all excited was actually the overwhelming response from buyers like myself who were, by now, FULLY into this new hobby - investing in modern comic books! And those titles he quoted as heating up were nothing but duds. Sure, as a wholesaler buying 10k JLI #1 at cost and flipping them the next week for $3 was probably a lucrative purchase (BTW, JLI #1 never really heated up), but for an average comic book buyer like myself this wasnt even an option since you really didnt have an outlet to sell back then unless you had a store (or a booth at a con). So the only real winners for buyers back then were your long term buy+hold investment books, which so far, havent manifested on Chuck's watch (spoiler alert - they wont in the future either ) On another note, this month was a month that alot of titles were cancelled, Marvel cancelled Semper Fi, DC cancelled C.O.P.S., LOSH & Haywire, and Comico, presumably at the request of DC, cancelled Fish Police, Maze Agency, Trollords, Trouble With Girls & Justice Machine Annual #1. But many flagship titles (Batman, X-Men, ASM) were now offered twice a month. Also notice the increasing titles with a hefty 3.95-4.95 price tag. Yup, the big two were on to something. On to this months big winners, but not before a word of advice from Chuck: (as always, I've highlighted the more entertaining parts) My god, he bought 500 copies of Punisher movie #1 at the punishing price of 4.95. Even by TODAY'S standards that is a bad spec, and that says ALOT. I guess he really thought theres a chance for it to be a hit as he said, while on the other hand he ordered only 100 of Batman movie adaptation since he KNEW the movie would fail. I dont think he could've been more wrong Well, wish I wouldve bought his entire stock of 300x ASM #298 at $3 a pop. But as he says... Not guts, no glory Till next time
  20. I am not aware of any earlier Omaha appearances prior to that. Although there have been discussions on the same publication about Omaha prior to that from what I read I got all my Vooties from everlovin on eBay a few years ago. And yes you should look him up, he's an amazing seller
  21. I honestly am not opposed to it as a buyer. But it doesn't make sense to me AT ALL as a seller. Reason being: if u create a listing like that as a seller you would be billed for the amount of listings within that one listing as individual listings. Example; if I have a run of 20 consecutive asm issues within one listing, eBay will count them as 20 listings towards my allotted listing count and further bill my account (if applicable) for 20 seperate listings. No thank you
