Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

Seriously though, I think it is even cheaper now than before the rumors of a show even started surfacing -
Are the days of wholesaling drek over?
Aweandlorder replied to Aweandlorder's topic in Comics General
The trend back then was having copper books which turned keys due to movie spec. The trend today is more of a nostalgic era and newsstand editions ALONG WITH movie spec books -

Are the days of wholesaling drek over?

My opinion is that at this point I think that its paramount for small time sellers like myself to catalog their inventory. Ive never had my inventory cataloged.. Always worked on a per collection basis. But seeing that 90s drek is moving faster today than non key silver/bronze age books is a major game changer for me -

I threw away HUNDREDS of PERFECT copies of New Mutants 99, Spawn #1, Ghost Rider 1, X-Force 11... Many many many others God knows how many newsstand image copies I would estimate that I threw away thousands of dollars worth of books which would have been sold today in matter of weeks. And Im no dealer -

Are the days of wholesaling drek over?

I have never been a fan of moving $5-10 books up until I started selling on amazon Amazon has this ranking system which tells you right away how quick an item will move (slow asin vs quick asin books). This changed my approach about the whole "hot" market on ebay. A $100 slow moving book is just that - slow a fast selling $5-10 book will get you that $100 alot quicker if you have it around -

Are the days of wholesaling drek over?
Aweandlorder replied to Aweandlorder's topic in Comics General
Ghost Rider #1 fetches anywhere between $5-25 today. You will have no problem getting 10 bucks for a 9.6-9.8 raw. X-Force 8 & 11 are solid $10 books, Some New mutants btw 85-100 (excluding the big ones of course) are solid $10 books in NM... Newsstand image books are all the rage... Plenty other examples -
Are the days of wholesaling drek over?
Aweandlorder replied to Aweandlorder's topic in Comics General
Haha But you did bring an excellent point. Based on the trends that we saw this year, I can say that most drek that has peaked this year was 90s drek. Not to discount 80s drek. But 90s Liefeld, McFarlane, Valiant, and Image newsstands have taken off this year big time. Had I had those books in potential 9.8 condition laying around by the hundreds, which is not a far fetched scenario, would I be better off today than wholesaling them last year for 300$? -
Are the days of wholesaling drek over?
Aweandlorder replied to Aweandlorder's topic in Comics General
Case in point. I recently bought a collection with many high end books. In fact I could tell you that at least 60% of that collection which was beautifully preserved would grade 9.8. The odds are the usual - 20 percent keys 80 percent modern popular drek. What do I do with those 9.8 candidate dreks? -

Pretty sure I wont since I formulate buying collections which consist of keys & drek in them and they are relatively easy to come by -
Are the days of wholesaling drek over?
Aweandlorder replied to Aweandlorder's topic in Comics General
Exactly the point of this thread. Sure if it costs you x to store them and you make less than x annually lets say from said drek than no point in storing (+labor listing etc) But in the past year i think its pretty evident that many books have elevated from drek status to (at least) 10$ mark or higher, sometimes much higher, and this is not even factoring grading them and yielding an even higher premium (look at Ghost Rider #1 for instance). Again, the key words here are last year & many So a better question would be: do you recall any other time in history where selling worthless secondary market books by the hundreds have made for a great investment? -
So you know the scenario, purchase a collection - keep/sell the keys, wholesale the drek for dirt cheap. This strategy is more evident when trying to conserve space for another big collection. But is it wise to adapt this method today when prices of yesterday's drek are soaring? References: Liefeld's X-Force/New Mutants, Spawn, Newsstand image drek

Absolutely. And again, there are many movies that have some sort of "hot topics" worth discussing. I just don't see BP being a messenger. Id be equally disappointed from any white person who thinks this movie is about race equality as I would from any black personal. Remember that this was actually based on comic book characters and stories? Where was that discussion when the books saw print? -

Funny. I thought I just watched a kickass superhero movie, a great adaptation, beautiful story, killer acting. No hidden political message there for me sorry to disappoint at least not overshadowing the above treats -

Overall I'd disagree with anyone, black or white, who watched BP and could ONLY relate to it through Killmongers agenda and anger. This is kinda like watching, I don't know... escape from NY let's say, and thinking that this movie is messed up cause Snake Plisken the hero of the movie was anti government or anti American. Just because BP integrates a political component in its story doesn't mean it should be treated as propaganda. That's just preposterous -

Yup. That's exactly how progressive they were with their creation. They set the bar high, then came Alan, and Frank, and Neil... I was reading an interview with Dck Giordano the other day (back from 87) and he was talking about how progressive (back then) creative control had gotten and how comic book creators were taken more seriously than they were before. He mentioned that works by Chaykin, Hernandez bros and other successful creators at the time led DC to market more intelligent properties and stories to a more mature audience. Had this evolution not taken place we would still be sitting here reading books approved by the comic code about imaginary superheroes and funny animals -

Do you guys remember the first time Batman (1989) came out and how all of us comic book people flocked to the theaters saying YESS this is FINALLY happening! Remember what it did to our industry? To our culture? Do you remember when that happened with X-Men? Iron Man? Avengers? How us comic book people felt when our favorite books were elevated to a higher rank up there with huge blockbuster movies? Do you remember when us comic book people were treated as nerds, mocked around for reading books intended for kids? Keeping our hobby a secret because it wasn't socially acceptable? Now just switch the words comic book people with african americans, so you get an idea why they are proud and excited about Black Panther. -
