  1. Interesting as I haven't seen but 2 copies of x-men 266 in lcs around here in the last 10 years. It probably has but gets snatched up fast.
  2. Is that how its going down ? Works for me other than ending at #50. I really wish that the original creators would build on this world from different character perspectives. So many interesting possibilities. I could see a whole series dedicated to each nation and stuff like the Rangers. Hickman probably got propositioned by Marvel to do another All New, All-DIfferent Secret Wars NOW Now NOW Part Duex or something.
  3. Question - did you actually ever hear of or see a sale at that price? That's what I said.
  4. I hadn't gotten back into comic collecting until around 2007. In chatting with folks at stores about what was worth reading and collecting, someone said there was a rumor of Deadpool getting a movie. I thought they were joking, as I never remembered this character being a prime role in those 90's stories. I think up to 2008 I was able to pick up nice examples still for $25. If only I had hung in there and trusted the rumor. We are all in that same boat buddy!
  5. All I know is around my neck of the woods NM 87 was a 60 + dollar book in NM raw right after the release. If anyone says otherwise it may be true may be false it doesn't really matter. OVG was and still is behind the times no matter internet feedboack now versus then. The book was hard to find and still is in high grade. NM 98 wasn't until about 7-10 months ago when movie news went from rumor to official and that is a fact. Take it to the bank ya'll.
  6. No offense taken at all. And yes, New Mutants #87 was definitely THE hot book of the run for a long while once the Liefeld excitement calmed down. That's a given. But telling anyone that collected at that time they don't know what they are talking about concerning New Mutants #87 was hot at the time seems kind of confrontational, and cuts off dialogue versus sharing experiences. That's dumb. True yet the champion at the time was NM 87 over NM 98 by a landslide. I like both books moving forward to be honest.
  7. Statistically impossible? - Region 1 sells a NM 87 for $5 - Region 2 sells a NM 87 for $7 - Region 3 sells a NM 87 for $6 - Region 4 sells a NM 87 for $9 - Region 5 sells a NM 87 for $25 Average price = $10.40 Just with those five tiny samples, a $25 sale gets hidden in the average sale price rather easily. So if a price guide is sampling across many regions, those $25 sales happening in a region seem to hide themselves in the average. See how that works statically with a small sample? No offennse but you might be to young to understand history here. With 7 months or less NM 87 was a wall book rather it be 60 dollars or 85 dollars is beside the point. Trying to pin down how hot this book was in different areas is besides the point. NM 87 was a hotter book faster than NM 98 is beyond a shadow of a doubt. To try to pretend otherwise is just madness at this point. To quarrel over where this book was hot versus overall areas is dumb to be honest. It .took off here locally in the midwest region way before NM 98 did by leaps and bounds. NOBODY cared about NM 98 as much as NM 87 at the time. And that is a fact.
  8. A comic book warrior, with a web belt fully loaded with textnades, with pins always half-pulled. The newer people aren't going to be aware of this, but you have been warned by moderation not to pick fights with various people on the boards over the years. You really ought to cut it out. Don't know if you're angry at something today, and need to vent, but you're not going to find what you're looking for here. This +1 MILLION.
  9. Nobody knows how many over printings occurred and / or were handed out etc.
  10. Yup. 1985-1990 newsstands were produced in higher amounts than post 2000 newsstands but they are still pretty tough books to find in CGC 9.8 slabs. Look up any key book from those time periods on eBay and you'll see about a dozen CGC 9.8's....and maybe ONE newsstand copy. Those newsstand 9.8's typically sell at a decent premium over CGC 9.8 direct markets......but the premium is much higher, on newsstands from the early 200's and on. GPA does note newsstand sales on SOME books....Spawn #9 has newsstand sales at about 500% the price of direct markets for example. Meanwhile, a Suicide Squad #1 CGC 9.8 3/1987 newsstand sold on 2/21/2016 via Heritage Auction at $359 PLUS a 19.5% buyer's premium. That sale is not notated as a newsstand edition in GPA, nor did the 19.5% buyer's premium figured into the cost of the bid.....IOW, the buyer paid about $470 for that CGC 9.8 SS #1 1987 newsstand...plus shipping/insurance, bringing the total paid for that book to around $500, or thereabouts. That SS 1 newsstand cgc 9.8 that sold on Heritage on the 21st also had very nice centering, as well. Wonder if there was tax involved as well as some states like Florida and California I believe heritage adds that to the total price.
  11. Congrats on your grail. We are all little kids when it comes to those books (inside feeling of course)
  12. Venom wasn't "VENOM!!!!" until Lethal Protector in 1993. Cable, however, was a huge hit by the middle of 1990. Cable was around for a year and a half before Wizard's first issue (Jan of 1990 vs. July of 1991.) New Mutants #87....again...was a $65 book by the time New Mutants #100 rolled around...several months before Wizard. In fact....New Mutants #87 dominated the early Wizard "top 10" charts, but was actually on its way down soon after. No, Wizard had nothing to do with Cable's popularity. +1
  13. Which of the 25 variants (or so)? The print run on 100 is enormous. There's really only 1 of the 25 variants that people will want..and that's not including the 2nd print. The SDCC has really never worked up much love from people. 355k split amongst the variants is not that many if you focus on 1 cover. Would love to know where issue 100 is floating around in $ bins. +1 Exactly
  14. Which of the 25 variants (or so)? The print run on 100 is enormous. 1st and 2nd prints I'd say.
  15. Cable had Wizard, Deadpool has the internet. I think we know who wins that battle. Cable had Wizard and Deadpool had Wizard....the internet wasn't around yet. Its not about winning or losing or which character will be more popular now or in a year etc. What is important is how much of a impact just one good movie adaptation can launch the popularity of a character. Here are the facts.... Deadpool has a record breaking movie debut.....he's not going to become less popular. Cable will be in the sequel and possibly x-force and/ or new mutants who knows how many movies and spinoffs might be made in the next decade. This will undoubtedly raise his popularity to the masses to both comic book genre folks and pop culture. The only fact there is deadpool is breaking box offices all the rest is opinion and guesswork. All the rest is up in the air. Cable ruled the 90s, but Fox is really going to have to put a lot into the character to give him appeal. Id like to see the character do well, but it just seems to me he will be another supporting character unless a AoA becomes huge. If that happens he will be a monster. Not really all opinion and guesswork but if you think so go right ahead. 1. X-force movie is in r&d and Reynolds has said its a priority of his to make it happen. When a guy pushed a movie that ended up being the highest grossing debut for Fox studios movie EVER I think they'll listen (this is the same studios that have been around a long time and were behind the first star wars trilogy, prequels, and alien franchise so that is saying a lot).. 2. New mutants movie is on the table right now as well and a -script is in the works. 3. Deadpool 2 has already been greenlit and Cable is in it. (same writing pair as first one) Yeah that is all up in the air right?
  16. Correct except for the risk involved. Yes both actors were a risk but Jackman was the biggest risk as he had no US film history and was replacing the actor for the role due to Mission Impossible II taking longer than scheduled (Dougray Scott) A last minute fill in and couple a actor with no history was a bigger gamble than RDJ. Yes his drug history is always a gamble but at least Marvel knew if clean he could act.
  17. +1 Only thing to add is this. X-men movie (2000) was Jackman's first US movie so they got a star before a star and didn't have to pay through the nose right away on those first couple films. Yet if you compare that to say Iron Man with Downy Jr he already was a known commodity

  19. Cable was popular back in the 90's and it took Deadpool a lot longer to gain steam but it doesn't matter once more characters are introduced in the movies more fans will be exposed to him. Take a look at this miniseries Marvel has planned. Deadpool vs. Gambit Apocalypse Wars (planned to run cross its three core X-Men series) Comic book readers who haven't got a chance to read very much from these characters will soon and its all lining up to coincide with the next movies, X-men Apocalypse and Gambit.
  20. He was on the X-men animated series cartoon that had a big impact on x-men fans at the time and still does.
