  1. looks nicer than 4.5; they must've penalized for the boy's name which i find charming as hell and not a problem in the least. nicely done, sir. Could that be THE Winters from the 101st Airbourne, D-Day, and Band of Brothers fame? A real Superman. Hmmm, THE Winters was 23 when this book was published. The signature does look like an adult's signature.
  2. looks nicer than 4.5; they must've penalized for the boy's name which i find charming as hell and not a problem in the least. nicely done, sir. Thanks. I agree, I don't mind the name at all. There's a tear at the bottom center, two smaller tears on the right edge, and a corner crease on the lower right. I think the combination of those defects knocked it down to a technical grade of 4.5, but it sure is one pretty 4.5! White pages, too!
  3. One more early Supe down! if anyone knows Rich Winters, tell him I have his book
  4. Added another book to my collection of high-grade Feature Comics. The colors are really bright, and the White pages are
  5. Great book. It's really cool to see that letter too. Thanks for posting it.
  6. 8 inches of snow fell here last night, but that didn't stop UPS and the USPS from bringing these beauties to my door. First up, Human Torch #8. Gotta thank Nearmint for this one! Thanks Jeff! What a great cover. I love the way the iron is melting, and the Sub-mariner's "Anti-flame Fluid"! How cool is that? Also got a nice copy of Is This Tomorrow, an upgrade over my old copy.
  7. Another upgrade just in today, a pretty copy of Is This Tomorrow.
  8. What venue did you pick this baby up at? Feebay. It was in a lot that came with a couple of anti-communist pamphlets too (they are not comics). They were both printed by the Government Printing Office and say "for use of the Committee on Un-American Activities". One is called "Communist Psychological Warfare (Brainwashing)", the other "Languange as a Communist Weapon". Looks like pretty interesting stuff, but I haven't had a chance to examine them yet.
  9. Looks like Ron Howard. Cool book You know, it kinda does!
  10. Found this in my mailbox today. A nice upgrade of Double Talk!
  11. Awesome books! Fawcetts are so under-appreciated. A few months ago I picked up a CMA #3 9.0, and had intended to flip it, but I'm getting closer and closer to removing it from my site and keeping it. Fawcetts are great. I don't understand why so few GA collectors pay them any attention at all. Same can be said for Quality books too. Captain Marvel, Plastic Man and Blackhawk were some of the most popular and longest running families of titles of the GA. Where's the love? Just checked out your scan of the CMA #3 9.0, Jeff. That's a sweet copy of a nice book. You should probably keep it. (thumbs u
  12. Picked all three of these up in the past week or two. #'s 8, 12, and 13. I really, really like the war covers on #8 and #12! Iconic imagery, IMHO.
  13. By Jove, I think you are right! You pedigree sleuth you. They all look like they could be from pedigree collections. The 21 has a date stamp on the back, no markings on the 9. But they clearly were in circulation so they aren't file copies. Yep, looks like an Ohio to me. Here's another one for comparison. Very similar markings.
  14. Don't you love it when your friendly neighborhood postal worker delivers a package like this to your door? Big thanks to Pokerkid for some super-cool books that made this GA geek's day! (thumbs u
  15. Almost 14 years. Doll Man is one of the longer running golden age features. His first appearance in Feature Comics #27 was published in December, 1939. He appeared in every issue through #139 in October, 1949. His own title, Doll Man, ran for 47 issues from Fall 1941 through October, 1953. So that's what, 160 issues total? That's a pretty impressive run, IMHO. I personally really like the artwork in Quality books. There's the masters, Lou Fine, Will Eisner, Jack Cole, and Reed Crandall of course, but then the second stringers like Al Bryant and Chuck Cuidera are also really good. As for the Uncle Sam appearances, I don't have any myself, but they're on my wishlist. The National Comics issues with him on the cover are popular right now, which means they're expensive. But if you go after some of Uncle Sam's own series, they're cheaper (except #1) and you get a full book of his stories. (thumbs u
  16. My collection of Feature Comics, featuring the Doll Man, keeps growing so I thought I'd post a few group shots. The skull cover on #80 is my favorite, but I really like the colors and design of all of them. Anyone else here like Features? 17. Kinda stumbled into this one. Fantastic Fears 5, 1st Ditko art. I think. It keeps changing. Regardless, I think it's a pretty cool book. And the Ditko story is really good, too.
  18. I gots to get me one of those someday! Awesome book, Billy.
  19. Yay! BZ's back! I always enjoy your posts.
  20. I've offered a few platinum age books in the marketplace Linky
  21. Wow! Nice one, Mark. I didn't even know that existed!
  22. Green Lantern. It's a war cover, it's got White pages, and best of all it's a Tom Reilly book.
