greggy reacted to kimik in Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
Nice price on the Thundercats 1 in lowly 9.4. It was not that long ago where I was happy getting that for 9.8s.

greggy reacted to kimik in Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
I decided not to bulk pre-order Doom 1 due to the high cover price and only did a couple of copies of A and B.

greggy reacted to Lazyboy in Does a factory crease hurt a book's value? If so, by how much?
Here's some more insight: that kind of crease in that area of the cover is ultra common on this particular issue.

A long-winded reply:
The pedigree designation came about because of the Church collection. The Church copies were sold at multiples of Guide, with the justification that not only were they high grade, but that their state of preservation, in all aspects, was so far superior to the typical copies that survived. A few other collections were found that were also noticeably superior in preservation. However, over time, that pedigree standard was loosened and some interesting and high grade collections were given the pedigree designation without being superior.
When it comes to late SA and BA, it is hard to see that any pedigree is anywhere near as superior to the standard in the same way is true of Church and a few other of the premier pedigrees.
For example, back in the 90s, A-1 Comics purchased an original owner late SA and BA collection that included every DC. The gloss and pages for those was superb and yielded loads of highest graded copies. When I slabbed 100 page giants they received a handful of 9.8s and more than 30 9.6s. None of the pedigrees from this time period appear to me to better than what I've seen on those copies. I believe there are many other collections out of there similar quality to pedigrees.
So, while there may be some "best of" copies from late SA/BA pedigrees, I personally don't think the ped designation, by itself, matters because I don't think they are that special. YMMV.

greggy reacted to CGC Mike in Is anyone else getting books back with warped inner wells?
@LordRahl CGC identified a batch of inner wells that were warped and removed from production, but it appears that these got through. Please send the affected books back via Mechanical Error and they’ll be taken care of.

greggy reacted to skypinkblu in Bronze Age Treasuries
I've never seen a "sealed" Treasury or DC Limited book sealed. I have gotten books that were not sealed by the manufacturer, in sealed bags.
As Eric said, the person who had the book before me, sealed it themselves.

There are lots of ways to reseal a bag, or seal a bag that was never sealed.
I seal my left over nail polish strips with a straightening iron, but I think this method is more widely known.

$230 for a She-Hulk 1 CGC 9.8 - yikes!! I was getting double that even before the movie hype took over.

greggy reacted to batmiesta in Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
Yeah! Totally agree very beneficial for CGC, but not the subber, so why do it?

greggy reacted to thehumantorch in Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
Unfortunately those tired SA and BA keys and Modern spec stuff is the comic market for many of those 'influencers'. As much as I love early SA books there's a lot more out there.
Had a local flipper selling some GA at a show. He was asking the moon for an early Batman and a few other nice books but he had no idea LB Cole Romance was worth anything. I tried not to giggle when he quoted $25 for a classic Cole romance book that was worth 20 times more. When I bought it he was thrilled because now he could afford supper. Giggle. I love guys who don't know as much as they think.

greggy reacted to Ryan. in TV Teens 5
TV Teens 5 CGC 3.5 Brittle pages. Classic Chic Stone cover.
Probably the nicest looking brittle page comic that exists. No, definitely the nicest. That's impossible to know but I've decided I'm 100% correct. The brittleness is on the inside pages near the spine. You can barely feel the brittleness at all. Just reach around the cover and try to touch it. I won't slap your hand away, promise. $250 for this titillating rarity.
