I was not aware of a ¢49 edition. How rare is it? a fair market price? Thanks M.

First printing... Matte pebbled cover stock, 49c price and local Milwaukee ads. Print run was about 4k, 3500 sold locally and 500 sold in San Francisco. Fmv for vfnm is maybe 250-400 to the right buyer.

2nd printing was done by Print Mint and the ads swapped out. Kitchen was shorted his end by the publisher (poor accounting practices) so he decided to start printing his own books and formed Kitchen Sink Press.

I am so stumped on what to pick for my

recipient. Gotta consult the LCS resident expert over the weekend.

I was stumped on mine too... I hit a local show last weekend to drum up ideas and talk to dealers. It helped get me to that breakthrough moment and got me looking at and talking about comics outside my comfort zone

While I'm here I figured I's ask about Gunslinger Spawn. Rather than start a new thread, besides the top experts on the board should be right here.

Spawn issues featuring Gunslinger covers? Spawn 174,175, 306 D, 309 1st,2nd,3rd prints, 310, 311 C, 312 C, and Spawns Universe Campbell variant. Am I missing any on this list? Thanks

Cameo 119 (non-cover), cover appearance on the Opena cover for 300

  4. Damn playas!! I like the read on Gunslinger Spawn as a solid convention grinder. Interesting observation and one I look fwd to testing next year.

I think its cool we're getting the actual print numbers for the 1:250 incentives disclosed. As an aside... I miss Comichrons numbers.

As a Spawn collector I made the decision to let the 1:50s go... I got a Spawn's Universe and a King Spawn 1:50 that I pre-ordered through Wade's Comic Madness... but I finally have my LCS dialed in with all regular covers, all printings and the condition I'm getting is NM+. Plus what little info I can glean is that the print runs are high for these books and I'm betting longterm demand will drop (as it does with Spawn) and there will be buying opportunities.

  5. Satire begats parody begats meme.

I think there's a general misunderstanding of copyright when it comes to use, fan use or fair use of copyright material. It used to irk me that McFarlane would not put out Spawn merchandise like T shirts. Eventually I went to a local artist and had him make me one. On the Usagi Yojimbo Facebook group I belong to, often ppl get gluteus ache over a Redbubble sticker or a Teepublic mask... I get it... but they often fail to differentiate between a copyright image vs parody vs fan art (which also is ubiquitous in artist alley at any convention).

And to a large extent copyright is only such if one acts (constantly) to protect it. Maybe I'm missing the point here? Maybe the OP is less about fair use and more about perceived / imposed values of Peanuts or Schulz vs how those perceived / imposed values now align to current internet misuse.

  6. Welcome to the boards @flugazi. Nice to have a fellow underground comix collector on the message boards. I'm sure you've found them but there is a general thread on UGs in the magazines section, and a thread that explores scarcer mini comix from the 1982 Kennedy guide in Bronze section.

It is cool to see some of the Haight Ashbury pedigree surface... one of our fellow boardies (now deceased) helped to bring the collection to market. If you want a list of the pedigree, it is archived in my old journal here

Here's a link to some of my collection. Like you I like high grade first print Crumb, as well as the Freak Brothers and Zap Comix. Happy hunting and feel free to reach out via private message if you have any questions. Regards, Om aka Justin
