  1. I've been collecting shoes for about 2 years now and while there is a grading system (eg. Grade A or deadstock being the highest) and several authentication services (eBay, StockX), there is no encapsulation service that I've seen. Most big time collectors, some influencers, and many companies bot Nike SNKRS app, Adidas or footsites like Champs, Foot Action, Footlocker etc. Botting is pervasive, out in the open and accepted as a cost of doing business. It is also expensive, with good bots costing 4 figures plus a monthly fee. This leads to a culture of grinding on the margins, rinse repeat, keep your capital working, don't hold for too long. I would say the culture of sneaker collecting is one of 'wear your sneakers.' Way more than comics is read or video games are play. Because of the materials used in sneaker production... glues, foams, composites... the acidiy of the paper and boxes... it is really difficult to hold sneakers for longer than 15yrs without them degrading, molding, soles yellowing, midsoles cracking. That said, sneaker collecting as a cultural phenomenon is still its infancy relative to the comics (only about 16-20 yrs old).
  2. Well if recent history is any indication... Stop there. Create a thread.
  3. This (general theme of thread) is the most valid criticism of Bad Idea ... they put the burden of their stupid business ideas on small retailers to execute and it creates ill will toward those small retailers. ^ see also screed of all caps above... I mean WTF now they are yelling at us!? ^ Under produce/ship Eniac 1st Hero Trade 1 per store Sell this $1 comic... a net negative venture... for 1 day only, and after your shift ship it back same day Passive to one coast and Aggressive to another (but we don't do variants) Stupid azz pins, ala Valiant golds Meanwhile Bad Idea can just be glib and laugh it off because it was, after all, a Bad Idea
  4. No firsts that I've seen but Haunt is being introduced into King Spawn so that is pretty cool 😎
  5. I've been on the Spawn train for a long time. I've been collecting the main title, all covers all printings and have continued to do the same with the spin-offs. For me it's better to buy Spawn at retail vs resale (even for a large est print run). That said, I no longer chase the retailer incentives - managing my FOMO by trying to be happy with what I can find locally with my subscription service. Thankfully I'm not into SS books so that helped with King Spawn 1 It's a great time to be a Spawn collector ... long live the King! Ps. I wanted the gold Spawn's Universe 1 that came free with $50 worth of McFarlane toys but there wasn't $50 worth of Spawn on the website that I didn't already have. So I grudgingly passed on that one (that said the deal is still going and restocks have occurred). However, I did pick up the 2nd print of that book. IMO Reprints are the poor man's incentives when it comes to Spawn.
  6. They've been hit / miss on underground comix printings since the beginning, not to mention the whole 'the absence of a printing notation equals first printing' convention on the label
  7. Did you have to pay a gas tax to build it into the blockchain?
  8. I used to journal a lot about the topic of collecting ... I like reading articles about collecting and love seeing a well curated collection. Harry Rinker, the antiques writer, journaled for years about the topic. I found his website from reading the boards. TLDR
  9. Zap Comix #1 was THE book that launched the underground comix genre and coalesced an avant garde art movement in San Francisco. The first printing was printed by beat poet Charles Plymell #0 was the first 0 issue in comics. The art was originally stolen, the book was re-created using photostats and published as 0 to preserve the sequence. #4 has a classic cover and oozes (literally) obscenity history, banned and the subject of the landmark obscenity case People of New York v. Kirkpatrick. Quite possibly the greatest anthology comic book of all time Head shop distribution of underground comics lays groundwork for modern Direct Market model Spanned 4+ decades and 16 issues.
  10. Sorry I just saw this thread this morning. Excellent sales results! And good to see where some of the other Sucha news copies ended up
  11. First time I saw that Kennedy guide was a watershed moment! The floodgates opened and 12yrs went by before I bought another aboveground comic
  12. Usagi Yojimbo from Dark Horse, #1 and #2 say of 3, but the series went on for 165 issues Savage Dragon, 3 issue mini first then series Nothing from Bad Idea Comics
  13. 3 new Usagi Yojimbo variants hit this morning in conjunction with SDCC at Home. #20 2nd print Albedo homage (Dogu site) #20 2nd ... blank sketch and virgin UY1 homage (Sakai site)
  14. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread... even if I don't spec on moderns I like reading about what books are heating up and have some sense of the market. It's one of my favorite threads
  15. I like to search for the B%tch Planet ones ... but I've never really been clear on what led to the logo variations... Reading article now
  16. No and no. Spawn collectors love this sort of oddball thing. Looks like the CMY yellow just ran out.
  17. And Spawns are notorious for having black back covers where most of the production, shipping and handling defects occur (scuffing and spine ticks).
  18. I once CGC stabbed about 20 underground in my collection that I originally had graded with PGX. All grades were +/- 0.2 with most staying the same
  19. Wow! Another 1st print Zap Comix #1. Nice book!!
  20. Beautiful copy with a wonderful orange color and light blue inks. Lovely!! 😍
