The Unofficial Underground Comix thread...
oldmilwaukee6er replied to 50 Cent #II (1st)'s topic in Comic Magazines
I would say I was almost 98% undergrounds from '03 when I discovered them to probably '14 when I started to get priced out. Since then I've moved to back into two runs I collect (Spawn and Usagi). I also collect mid century tourist pottery (Nemadji) since I moved to Wisconsin and I like anything counterculture Milwaukee. I also got into vintage video games and systems but sold the majority of that stuff. Now I maybe buy an underground a year sadly. But I haven't sold much at all, so I still have 4+ short boxes of raw and stabbed UGs. -

This Week in Your Bronze Age Collection!!
oldmilwaukee6er replied to TupennyConan's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I think late 1970s. Embroidered felt with sticker backs, each is about 4x2 inches. I heard anecdotally there were ads for the patches in comics but I haven't come across them. -

So true. This is even true for picking comics in the early 1990s. Driving up to Chicago from my little farmtown, hitting bookstore after bookstore, looking in the phone book, calling stores for hours / directions, asking for recommendations on where to stop... ultimately finding stuff. Anyways thanks for keeping this thread going.

Not sure where to put this...Wizard World is blowing out backstock and have tons of con exclusives for $1 including their Walking Dead variants... some wolverine and Deadpool and hulk too https://wizardworldvault.com/collections/ww-chicago

Finished (what I believe are) all the 70s DC felt patches. I've passively collected these for about 10yrs; Green Lantern and Green Arrow were the last two.

Zap #4 is kinda the 1st example... flipped and read (somewhat) right to left from back cover where the Moscoso stories meet. Zap #3 is the 2nd example, read left to right and then flipped upside-down read left to right. Or the other way. Same for Zap #15. While Crumb did have the first #0 issue c 1968, I imagine there must be a FEW examples of flipbooks older than 1968 (Ala the Dell above)

I know he's not doing any in person comic cons through November at least, per a response to the Facebook group. He sells raw signed and re-marked comics via the Dogu website and his own website for the time being. -

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
oldmilwaukee6er replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
306d had been $60-80+ out of the gate (Gunslinger cover) as it was solicited super late and many LCS / collectors missed. Interesting to see the other covers selling 👍 -

Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

Part of why this book is selling $15-20, $60+ for the 1:10... is there seems to be some conflagration around the new character's name Yukichi vs Yuichi, the descendent of Usagi named in the cartoon. My impression is this is a temporary reading comprehension fail -
Signature required really??? WTH!!!
oldmilwaukee6er replied to anstettoman's topic in Comics General
I worked as a UPS driver helper this winter and signatures were not required. The diad screen would be marked CVD for covid and the driver would ask for last name. If no one was home we'd leave the door tag and try again. -
Spawn Newsstand Variant Variants: Experts needed!
oldmilwaukee6er replied to PeterPark's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I think this is pretty true. The last few years of picking Spawn I began asking "Do you have any weird Spawn books?" to try and get a deal on something odd someone may have overlooked. Lately Spawn fans have been buying the Mortal Combat actions figures, there's been about 7-8 different ones so far, the Kickstarter figures, and he's got a new wave of Violator, clown, Gunslinger Spawn and Redeemer are coming. Not to mention the next Medieval Spawn Kickstarter that was teased during Wondercon, as well as the rollout of 3 new monthly titles. It's crazy right now trying to keep up, I can't anymore, I'm having to pick and choose. -

What's with all the 3D modelling variant covers now?
oldmilwaukee6er replied to D2's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Does Bjorn Barends on his Spawn covers count as 3d digital ?? It's my understanding that he sculpts a figure and then builds the cover image around it ...
