  1. Ok here is the last raw book from the Western Penn collection. We use to call these books the George Collection before CGC pedigreed them. I don’t know why I’ve kept this one all of this time, it’s not really in my area. It’s a really nice book and the first captain atom. It is listed as Strange Suspense Stories #78. Once it’s submitted I think it will b the highest graded.
  2. I just bought the B&B 54 back and it was over $21K. That’s what I meant by being cost prohibitive. But if I c them I’m going to bid on them. Maybe I may win a few. Of course the Promise Collection may deplete my war chest a little.😎
  3. I sold it in 2004! Tried to buy it back when it was on CL was over bid. I really dislike their auction site and the bidding process. As I said previously, if it was on HA it would b in my collection right now! I believe it sold for just north of $8K. I bet it’s over $20K now!
  4. Tim it goes back to the 40’s. There was a Big All American which I owned briefly. An All Flash 1, and a run of GL’s. I was told by Mike that he set up at shows and sold many of the GA books to 1 collector so he could pay his dad back. He would take him to his house but blind fold him so he wouldn’t know where he lived. The Tarzan probably came from Stuart Mikes brother.
  5. Tim, I had the MGA run from 80-85! They were really nice. I tried to buy the 80 awhile back but got over bid. I think it was on CL. If it was on HA that never would have happened. The book I really wanted to reacquire was the SC 55 had a cumputer glitch and was the underbidder. I had this idea of getting some of the books in original holders back but that has become cost prohibitive. If there ever was a 10 to b graded that is it. The cover gloss is unreal and the corners u could shave with. I’m going to post the last raw Western Penn that I have a little later cause Monday it’s off to CGC!
  6. Something else I’ve been thinking about. How did he get them from the news stand, drug store in such great condition? He must have really cared about those books at an early age. How many of us could say that. Even though I loved my comics, that’s how I learned to read, I never treated them with any sense of reverence. My mother worked at a 5&10 store and would bring me home a few a week I read them and put them in a box.
  7. I don’t remember as there was also a run of MM and Sea Devils! I kinda remember the MM 1 having a date stamp on the cover. He may have sent this with some other books knowing my affinity for DC. He’s a very giving person!
  8. I believe he committed suicide after a run in with the law. Being a veterinarian with access to animal drugs did him in! Shame seemed like a knowledgeable dealer and hobbyist! Although I am glad he sent the books back. RIP!
  9. Wish all the books I’ve bought in the past looked like that whether graded VG or Mint by the sellers.
  10. I’m really glad they are going through HA. We’ll get a nice catalog and you know they will do a first class job! The collection deserves that!
  11. What seems a little odd to me is that they bagged and boarded the books a couple of years ago but had no knowledge of the value of the books. Just sayin!
  12. I’m not sure but I don’t think they were talking about a Batman 1 9.4 from the Promise Collection but the one HA sold awhile back.
  13. Great seeing that again. Not mine any longer. Beautiful book. I sold it to Metropolis years ago!
  14. Thanks to the original poster for the link. I don’t know Brian but he sure is enthusiastic about this collection. Sorta seems like you guys on here would feel the same. I’m not a real GA collector I have had some in my collection in the past. Not a fan of pressing but now that it is out in the open and a level playing field, have at it. These books are beautiful and I enjoy looking at them. I may even buy a few. It’s almost like looking at the photo journal books. Sorry if I upset some of you just my opinion and I have broad shoulders. Best
  15. The Showcase 31 graded 9.2 the 37 9.2. I had the WPA and the Pacific Coast 37 at the same time. They both were pretty similar. Don’t know what kind of holder they are in now!
  16. Nice books! Cant beat the colors on those WPA books. I forgot to add that the OO kept the books in laundry bags stored in a dry basement. Best
  17. I’m thinking most of the books Chris sold on eBay are listed in the catalog they sent to me.
  18. Tim, I noticed that someone is dumping a bunch of nice DC’s also. I thought the B&B 34,35 & 36 were all 9.4’s. Didn’t think u would buy a 9.2 but there it is in the auction. Will you check on that? Maybe it’s an early resub that someone got burnt on! My eyes are going it is a 9.4! At least my memory is still good😎
  19. Chris was the wife of the finder. I would say if you bought them from her they are WPA books. On another note if you bought them from Stewart not so sure!
  20. Great guy, prolly the most intelligent business person I have met. I remember how welcoming his Mom was, great lady. He sent me pictures of the cars and we talked about the SC 4’s. I did buy a SC 7 from the collection. I’m not comfortable saying much more about his personal life. I would imagine he has seen this thread. If he wants to come on and elaborate the ball is in his court! Best, Tom
  21. That’s the first place I look to see if it’s a possibility. There are also some dots in different patterns.
  22. If you read my post, this catalog was years after the collection was mostly sold. I also posted that the OO probably bought 10-20 copies of the late 60’s books! I see them very frequently fo sale!
  23. Nice book Tim. Every time a GL 1 comes up for sale I always check to see if I can match it. This copy has a larger smudge on the spine side of the book. I’ve seen some close but none I would say was a match.
