  1. What kind of grades would you say they were, Tom? Tim: I never saw the books, they were in a CBG ad. When I called they had already been sold. They were listed as NM and NM+. But as a consolation I bought the GL 1 and Showcase 43. I sold the GL 1 in a Sothebys auction and the Showcase 43 graded 9.2. Considering the way the B & B 34,35,36 and the Showcase 34, 35, 36 were stored I would say they have to be in the 9.0-9.4 range. I have color copies of the GL 1 and have been watching for it when one comes up for sale but haven't seen it yet. Best Tom
  2. anyone? Anyone? Western Penn hidden somewhere out there. I imagine there has to be a Bethlehem copy also but out of sight out of mind. The Western Penn 22, 23, 24 sold as a group for $1000 in 1988 to a west coast collector. Tom

The early books were gone when I first saw them. These books were graded early on with CGC so some of the PQ may have changed. When I typed this they were in columns. Sorry, but all of the info is there. Tom
  4. When I first had these graded I thought the 139, 140 and 141 had a serious shot at 9.8. All graded 9.6. Now I see the 140 on Worldwide has been graded 9.8. Still the best Flash run out there! Tom
  5. Congrats to you Tim. You really timed the market right when you decided to sell. Wow, someone took a bath. ( Keller?) I was able to reaquire for less than the book sold for in 2002. Tom
  6. Here's my take on a few, for what it's worth. 14 9.2 ow/w $1300 wow, I can remember when nearmint was shopping his very solid 9.4 copy forever for less than this! Mound City JLA 14 soon to be pressed. A few scratches on the case, slight spine roll, I am very pleased with the book. I thought I could bate Tim into a rant on pressing by my comment on this book. It's going to be pressed but under archival glass. With this:

  8. Scott didn't get all the books in the run! Tom
  9. Tim: Awesome picture! I wish I had the forsight to scan or take a group shot of that run. Those books were truly amazing. I thought that a few more of them had shots at 9.8 especially the 139, 140 and 141. The 139, to this day is burned into my memory. And in case anyone is wondering, no I don't regret letting them go back into the marketplace. As with most collectors we are only caretakers of our treasures for a brief period of time and our collecting interest do evolve to other things. Best, Tom
  10. Thanks to pennynike1 for quick shipping and a great packaging job that kept the books from being damaged. The postman left the books on my office doorstep in the rain overnight! Tom
  11. Here's one for the fly boys on Veterans Day. Thanks to all vets. Tom
  12. Hi All: Just back from CGC. Not as nice as some I have owned but its respectable.
  13. Hi Guys: Just received this back from CGC. Highest Graded! These also:
  14. All of them! I've been collecting for a very long time and this stuff sits in boxes and I don't have the appreciation for it that I once did. I would rather sell it to someone who would cherish it as I once did. I do have some things that I will never sell but I am going to try and reduce the volume. Best, Tom
  15. Thanks Shep: That's all folks! Except for the ones that I hastily sent to CGC before my new scanner arrived. AAMOW: 102, 108, 110, 115 I'm hoping they come back in the 9.2- 9.6 range. Some of these are going to FL also. Best, Tom
  16. Comick: I received these and many others directly from the person that discovered the collection. Best, Tom
  17. Thanks, Guys. Here are a few more. Best, Tom
  18. Hi All: Here are a few raw Western Penns I Don't want to clog up the thread so I'll add more later if you guys want to see them. Best, Tom
  19. Thanks Andy: I just pulled a box of Western Penn books and there are some War Comics. I will try to scan them at work tomorrow afternoon and get them up on the site. Best, Tom
  20. Here are a few I just found. I'm moving so I'm rediscovering things long forgotten Best, Tom
  21. BZ: Thank you for sharing your wonderful books. I had the priviledge to catalouge the amazing fanzine collection that was part of the Western Penn find. They began somewhere around the time of the Alley awards in Alter-ego and continued on for years. What an eye opener to the beginning days of fandom. Best, Tom
  22. Nice books Steelcity: I always liked the backup story in Superboy 85 much better than the story featured on the cover. Best, Tom
  23. Steve: Great run of books! Where did the PC run of Flashes start? I think when I spoke to Rob he told me 140 plus he picked up the 137 on ebay. I never thought that he would let those go but things do change. Do you have any PC's before 137 or just those croppy Western Penns? Best, Tom
  24. Rube: I had been out of collecting for awhile and a friend of mine brought me some books that an antique dealer had found. Nothing good Marvel ASM, Xmen, Superman Adams issues in 9.0 to 9.6 condition for $3 each, this was 1999. Needless to say I bought them and the juices were flowing again. I had sold off most of my books at Sothebys in the early 90's but had kept some craappy Flash books that I had picked up from a guy in PA. Flash was always my favorite character so I went on ebay to see what I could find. I ended up buying the OA to Flash 124 Space Boomerang Trap 16 Pgs. and was searching for other Flash material. Wow, Flash 137 newstand fresh. I was waiting to snipe but figured I'd place an early bid. I think guide was about $115 at the time and I bid $90, overbid. $100 overbid. This went on until the end of the auction and finally the book sold for about $135 or thereabouts. Outbid by PCE. I regrouped and said to myself, "Self you know dealers don't usually pay over guide for comics, maybe there's something I should investigate. As most of us have done, I sent an email to the seller. "Do you have any other books in like condition that you may want to sell? Gotta run, I'll be back a little later. Tom
